What's strange is that I started out in the car community and branched out into the Onewheel community. That's how I've broadened my audience. Public biffs are telling about how people perceive your age. In their eyes, if you're old, people run to your rescue, if you're still young, they just call out, assuming you're all right. I've almost convinced my boss to get a couple of GTs for "mental health" purposes, so that when I'm visiting the home offices, I can ride instead of rent a car. Maybe some day I'll be able to link up with you and get a tour of DC from a Onewheel rider's perspective. In my fleet, I have a Growler (XR with Pint tire and WTF rails), two GTs, one with Low Rider Rails and the other with a 5" MTE and Steep and Deep rails, and a GT-S with a 5" MTE and Dub Tail Rails. I get what you're saying about not wanting to ride the GT compared to the GT-S. I only use my Growler to go get mail from the mailbox down the street and I'm having a hard time justifying my Steep and Deep board as the dirt trails near me are garbage. I'm on my Low Rider Board a lot, but even that is losing ground to the GT-S. If I was able to find my original XR rails, I'd have traded that and the Steep and Deep board in... sadly, that's not the case.
On a work trip to Raleigh, I rented an XR and used it for my work commutes instead of renting a car. When I expensed it, despite it being much less expensive than a car rental, I was asked to stay in the box and only rent cars next time. That turned out okay, because I rented a car and put my own board in the trunk the next trip. Let me know if you visit DC. Instagram is probably the best way to reach out. I’m @followdon on there as well. You have an impressive quiver of boards. But I’ve learned when you own multiples, you’ll end up developing a strong preference for one. Maybe you situationally ride another. I can’t justify keeping more than two boards myself. If a friend visits, they can ride my GT. Or if for some reason my GT S-Series isn’t available, I’ll ride the GT as a backup.
@@followdon found you on the grams, won't be able to hit you up this trip, except for Friday, which looks like it might not be a good day to ride. I want three completely different riding set ups, truck, cruise, and trail, even knowing if favor the cruising board. I was looking to convert two into one, and might still do that with my two GTs instead of a GT and XR... I'm reluctant to let go of my long distance cruiser, even though I've only done a couple of 20+ mile rides, ever. I dunno.
@SeanPaulNotTheSinger different board varieties is nice. My personal preference is to ride a performance board (that’s more forgiving in challenging terrain) over a distance board. The miles I do get are more enjoyable on the GT S-Series.
Really like your channel and just subscribed. I want a GT-S but I got a feeling the next best thing is coming soon…and the lack of range bothers me. I want this with a 30 mile range. And 3200 I think is a bit outrageous.
Thank you! I agree that the $3,200 price tag is outrageous. I had to sell some stock I was holding to afford mine comfortably. It also felt like a slight slap in the face to see the board discounted on Black Friday after I bought mine full-price. The trade-in program and the Black Friday sale might hint that FM believes they may have priced slightly higher than the market was willing to bear.
The GT S-Series is really fun. I think you’ll enjoy it a lot! I don’t think Future Motion did anything outside of what was expected in my case. I had almost 5,000 miles on the board and it was well out of warranty. But its end of life came in a suspicious way.
Replace the GT with an EUC for longer missions. You get access to that wider market and you don't have to do the walk of shame with small battery on the GT-S! Win Win.

The onewheel trade in program is just not worth it to me because i dont want to trade in a perfectly functioning board..have a working gt that i love. Plus then i would have to spend more money on the s series. (I was already gathering parts for my first vesc build so it wasnt in my budget at the time) Nice video dude and the speedometer is super cool👍
Thank you! I would consider VESCifying my GT so that it can keep up with or exceed the performance of my GT S. I agree that it doesn’t make sense to trade in a fully functional board. And the GT doesn’t feel like an underpowered board until you get used to a board with more power.
That was a cool new animation for tracking your speed, having the speedometer in the ground. Also, in didn't realize the slapping of the board when coming off curbs was a thing on the GT... I thought the new bang bumpers was causing me to do that...
Thank you, Richie! To put the speedometer on the ground, work with the distortion controls until the perspective matches. Then, you can track the position of your foot or the Onewheel, and it will animate. I got lazy with it in the latter part of the video. It’s storage and processing intensive to get the tracking rendered. The slapping on landings is a behavior that Future Motion can correct in software. The GT S-Series update proved that. If you’re riding off curbs at lower than required speeds, it could also be the back footpad contacting the curb as gravity starts doing its thing. But if the slapping happens after landing, it’s a software thing.
We are all in between falls. Yup. I remember many years ago taking my Motorcycle Safety Course. "There are two kinds of riders," the instructor said, "those who have dumped a bike and those who will." Similar and true.
I felt your pain watching this 😢. The pain of embarrassment... I've fallen around there before, but it was early in the morning and they cut one patch of grass plus morning dew, so my wheel slipped. I was going pretty slow also.
As a sim racing/automotive creator (also a niche hobby) it's tough. There is a few videos i have that made it past 250k views. I can be honest and tell you even then monetarily it's still rough. Has to be a passion play first. But consistency is king. I have taken many breaks and it's hurt my channel considerably. I had dreams of being full time and still hope to get to that point. But if anything i can offer, just get on a schedule and maintain that schedule as much as possible. Biggest mistake i made is taking time off.
I did low stakes rides for about a week before I started commuting. I didn’t have anyone to teach me and I failed and fell a lot in the beginning. If you have local experienced riders willing to teach, it can dramatically reduce your learning curve. Did you recently buy a Pint?
@@followdon yeah I got pint x in first week of June. Got in 134 miles in. Practiced riding first few weeks in a large parking lot and some bike trails, learning to carve and overcome foot fatigue. I still take many short breaks but I can now stay longer on on the board. Stretching my calves before ride helps a bit.
@TomBabula A couple things that might help: Don’t try to grip the board with your toes curling inside of your shoes. It doesn’t help any. Maybe I’m the only one who did that as a beginner 😅 You’re only responsible for heel toe balance, not front to back footpad balance. Make small intentional smooth movements and not jerky ones. Keep your center of gravity over the tire and accelerate with your hips. You can even use the weight of your arms. But avoid moving your upper body too far over your hips in either direction. That is to say, don’t lean. And no need to start commuting before you’re ready! Move at your own pace. Wear your safety gear. I’m still in a helmet on every ride to this day!
@@followdonyeah I used to do that curling toe thing too. Often unintentionally in the beginning. First few days I was too scared to mount on the board. Then next few days initial ride. Now it’s no big deal and think of it as “mount forward” instead of “mount up”. Changing shoes to Vans Skate and figuring out stance helped immensely. I think it was just a matter of building stabilizer muscles since I never did skateboarding or snowboarding in my life before. 😊
Wow, I recently discovered your channel and I just kind of assumed that you were making a ton of cash from this until I watched this video, normally I don’t care about subscriber counts, I assume good (in this case great) content creators just have insanely high subscriber counts, I then went to check your channel and saw that what I believed would be about a million subs was under 5k subs… I guess all I’m really trying to say is I subbed and I hope to learn more from your content.

@@followdon BMS, but they don't sell parts. These boards are completely repairable. Been working on them since I started, and have fixed so many for our community. Everything from headlights, to hall sensors. FM does not publish tech specs, for instance, no torque values. The list of nefarious business practices they employ, for an anti-repair attitude is endless. Not only that, but they actively bully the aftermarket community. Onewheel dealers are not 'allowed' to sell anything but FM products. They need to watch the Burton movie.
@deanaoxo thanks for doing what you do to help the community. FM has a long way to go in the way of aftermarket service, for sure. I hope they start doing more to empower you, rather than make your life more difficult in the near future. As an East Coast rider, I’d love to have authorized repair centers closer to home. Sending my boards away for weeks sucks considering I rely on them for transportation.
@@followdon They just don't get it. They could have built a stronger community, much like the Snowboarding community, which faced way more backlash. Initially crowd funded, they've turned their backs on us, screw us at every turn, and call it safety. Once you begin to work on them, you really appreciate the trouble they went to to make it difficult. I'll never spend another nickel w them, and hope to ride till the day I pass. I'm learning VESC and studying electronics again.
@deanaoxo, if VESC becomes more accessible to the masses, I’m sure more riders will give it a chance. For that to happen at scale, the community will need to create an accessible support infrastructure for those who don’t want to learn the intricacies of the technology.
I rarely leave home without my onewheel gt I don’t really fall but I always wear wrist guards and a helmet. Often full face bmx or motorcycle depending on the weather. Not interested in smashing my face. Will most likely buy GtS. I was too lazy to do the trade in. I have triple eight wrist guard gloves, fingerless for summer. I also have fx wrist guard gloves for winter.
GT is just software locked. the hardware is capable of putting more low end torque and also reaching higher speeds. but its an either or situation. I have a XR with 4210 software, a dropped a new 63v battery made of 21700 cells, same as GT. now it's performance is like 5% less than a GT.
That would be awesome performance to have in a lighter board. I considered keeping my XR to VESCify it, but ended up selling it. It seems like those who have ReWheeled their boards have been able to squeeze more performance out of the GT.
Add in, the battery is not as good. But then you have to ask, “would you rather ride a little further on a board that is less fun for all of the miles, or have fewer miles that are more fun?” The answer might be that you’d rather have an extra $1,000 in your pocket. Also, some of the gap in the experience is software and not hardware.
@@followdon I'm not him but I went from Pint to ADV Pro and I wouldn't ever want anything less powerful than the ADV. I still think future motion makes great stuff, but agreed about being overpriced
@Corn8Bit it’s kind of wild how we learn to live within the limits of whatever board we have. I didn’t desire more performance on the GT when it was all I had and it was the best board available. But after experiencing something better, it’s hard to go backwards. Hedonic adaptation.
Some people might be upset because FM released the new flagship shortly after the GT, and considering the premium price, most would have preferred it to have a range on par with the GT.
@1:45 Don't you find it even a tad bit disrespectful to those around you by zipping past them at 24mph? God forbid you fall and they're in your wipeout zone. Very dangerous.
Thank you for your concern. A fall could happen with a motor cut out or if a critter dashes under my tire. I do pass as wide as possible, but who knows how far I’d fly if a crash occurred at that speed. Good food for thought!

appreciate your content man!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you for watching and commenting 🙏🏾
how to add the speed indicator?
Add a Speedometer to Your Onewheel Videos

Riding is what happens between falls
Even better! I like that quote.
Thank you. It’s a labor of love right now. No income from this channel. I’m working on something new that I look forward to sharing here. Thank you for subscribing and for the kind comment!
I have learned that riding these boards requires full safty gear
Yikes! Hopefully not by crashing. I wear helmets, but looking at my past crashes, I should have added elbow pads and gloves.
It's pretty sad they don't sell parts so I can keep perfectly good boards going.
At this point, batteries are the only missing part I can think of. What parts do you need for your boards?
Sell t shirts bro, that’s what I’m gonna start doin🤑
I might get something going. We have a couple of guys locally who have infrastructure to make really nice shirts and jerseys. Thanks, Max!
Maybe you will finally get an euc👀 you gone be flying 💨
I’ll seek out some local riders and try to learn to ride one. Maybe I’ll film that experience.
if the GTS had the same range as my XR i would already have bought it, but even my old JW battery is still getting almost 20 miles
You may be able to get 20 with the GT S. Just probably not while riding 20 plus miles per hour. You’ve tried the board already, haven’t you?
@@followdon I haven't

I rarely leave home without my onewheel gt I don’t really fall but I always wear wrist guards and a helmet. Often full face bmx or motorcycle depending on the weather. Not interested in smashing my face. Will most likely buy GtS. I was too lazy to do the trade in. I have triple eight wrist guard gloves, fingerless for summer. I also have fx wrist guard gloves for winter.
It’s smart to dress for the slide. I tend to have more confidence to try things when I have safety gear on. Thanks for watching!
TLDR "The designed upgrade GTS is better than its predecessor GT" shocker.
Future motion needs to burn in hell.
The have underpowered and over priced crap.
Do you ride VESC? Or something else?
@@followdon I'm not him but I went from Pint to ADV Pro and I wouldn't ever want anything less powerful than the ADV. I still think future motion makes great stuff, but agreed about being overpriced
@Corn8Bit it’s kind of wild how we learn to live within the limits of whatever board we have. I didn’t desire more performance on the GT when it was all I had and it was the best board available. But after experiencing something better, it’s hard to go backwards. Hedonic adaptation.
let's be real... everyone pissing on the GT-S is because they can't afford it...
