The canned mushrooms I purchase are grown in Pennsylvania. I only buy that particular brand. Giorgio brand, grown in USA, packed in USA. I buy them at Walmart and at my commissary. They are certified Kosher so that goes a long way for me. Only brand I buy when I want canned on my shelf. Your pie looks lovely. Thanks for sharing.
I supposed anything certified Kosher would come from the US, or at least not China... I have a thing about anything in my house coming from China as well, thats why I don't do a lot of the shopping at the dollar stores because so much of it comes from China. So I will just look for Kosher from now on Ha!
I made this tonight and everybody is right this will be a great autumn and winter dish. I am not a big fan of shortcrust pastry if I am doing the cooking. So I did what I always did living in the UK is that is how they do most pies. for anyone else who isn't in love with pie crust I took mashed potatoes added an egg yolk, some Coleman's dry mustard, salt pepper and milk. Drew fork lines across the top and sprinkle with a little extra shredded cheddar cheese. It makes a wonderful British sort of pie with lovely Kat's recipe. give it a try if you're not in love with pie crust or you don't want to eat pie crust for some other reason. this works best in an oblong or square pan. :-)
Another meal that has everything I love in it! Your salad tip is OUTSTANDING too! I really needed that tip, seems we all have different eating times around here lately. What a quick delicious meal. Thank you, Sheila
I did this tonight! We added zucchini and giardenera (Chicago staple!), and mozzarella cheese! I did a gluten free crust. This was awesome! My husband loved it he even helped! This is a keeper!
This dish will be a hit in my home. I think I would like to make this in the fall or winter so I'll add it to my seasonal meal list. Thank you for your videos. I've not come across any of your videos that have a complicated recipe. You make the best foods. Thanks for sharing, Katzcradle and Prepper A.
What a high compliment. I really appreciate that. I try to only post the best of the best, recipes that will be successes for you as the cook, and will please your family. Yes, this is a great winter dish. It's super hearty and of course requires the oven so it's perfect when temps drop. You could be really efficient and throw a peach pie in the oven at the same time!
I’m doing a pantry challenge and I have frozen broccoli, canned mushrooms that I canned plus all of the other veggies ingredients. I will make this today. It’s rainy and cold and this sounds amazing.
I am going to a friends for a month and am trying to find some easy hearty recipe. He hubby is watching what he eats so this will be great to make. There will be five adults at all times so I think i will make a crust and crustless version, so we have leftovers. Thanks Katz. I will do my research on my foods too.
I was loading this at midnight last night, and reminded myself to go back at put the oven temp at the beginning of the instructions (I don't like to put it at the point where you're about to put the pie in the oven. It's too far down in the recipe, if you want it to go into a preheated oven.) I finished typing, pressed post, and then fell into bed. I never went back to insert the temp. If you go look, I've now added the temperature as 350 degrees. Thanks for the good catch...and thanks for watching.
That looks delicious! You answered the question I just asked myself "What am I going to make for dinner tonight?" Thanks for sharing such a great recipe! Oh and on the mushrooms from China. I know exactly what you mean, I won't buy them either. I recently posted a video of canning my own. They turn out delicious and I know where they are from. Check it out.
You can purchase grow your own mushroom kits on Amazon. You probably know a lot more then I would, as you already would have done the research. I will look around other sites.
I'M OFF THE VIDEO SUBJECT HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT SOMETHING IN ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS SOME TIME BACK. YOU HAD PREPARED AN ENTREE (DUNNO WHAT NOW) AND SAID YOU WERE GOING TO DO A --FRUIT SIDE DISH-- OF GRAPEFRUIT AND SOMETHING. ANYWAY, IT SOUNDED SO GOOD AND WONDERED IF YOU COULD DO YOUR FRUIT SIDE DISH OF GRAPEFRUIT AND WHATEVER SALAD. I SURE MISS YOUR NO-NONSENSE VIDEOS--NO SILLY INTRO, NO LOUD MUSIC, NO UNBOXING. BE WELL.
Hey Katz 👋 I soo feel the same way re imported goods esp from China. God only knows what they spray on their crops & the air plants take in is soo polluted - NO thanks!! We have poor citrus growers bulldozing beautiful trees plus crops because they can’t compete with the overseas imports....our government should hang their heads!! 😡 Ps. Just luv the look of this 🥧 pie!! Soo easy peasy too!! Plus I have the gluten free pastry recipe that u found me!! I’m good to go!! Ta Katz 👍🏻😊
Of course we can grow our own mushrooms, but apparently we'd rather import radioactive mushrooms from overseas. I mean, why bother supporting US farmers when you can support the economy of our next world war adversary, right? Sorry, I'm feeling very dark lately. But yeah, it looks incredible! Yum!
Someone ragged on me a bit, after watching another one of my videos where I said something disparaging about the Chinese in general. She's tired of listening to people blame the Chinese for things that we should hold ourselves accountable for. I told her very frankly that I thought we had lousy trade laws that allowed Chinese imports to flow so freely into this country, but that I'd NEVER stop talking about the horrible, oppressive, Chinese government and how it treats its citizens like chattel. (And personally, I think not only the current, but also the last few Chinese regimes would like nothing more than to poison a few million Americans.)
Mindy H. Fresh, yes; that wouldn't surprise me. Fresh mushrooms don't ship worth a whig. (Well, except Costco produce---and I suspect theyre using Star Trek transporters) But I'm gonna hafta challenge you on canned mushrooms. Its not like I watch every grocery store in the country, lurking on the canned mushroom aisle, but I can't recall seeing a canned mushroom from the US since I was but a wee bear cub.

I dehydrate my veggies and was curious as to the benefit of grinding your bell pepper rather than leaving it diced? Thank you
Looks great. Sorry, I don't see oven temp? Thank you.

Thank you so much...I thought it was me...I can miss the most obvious instructions sometimes :)
If it has cream cheese it has to be good!
Block of cream cheese....real healthy
Don’t eat it then! People like you are so annoying!
I find fresh mushrooms from the USA in Aldi's sometimes for 69 cents. I buy a lot at that price and can them myself.
Yum tomorrow nights dinner
Come back to this video and let me know how you liked it.
+katzcradul I did give a thumbs up, it must not have registered 😩 but my thumb is blue x

AnnBearForFreedom I don't buy canned mushrooms. I buy fresh when on sale and can them myself.
Mindy H. excellent!
