Wasn't there a sound effects + music menu in this game where you could just load and listen to the various things on the cartridge? I swear I hooked my Master System up to a tape deck and recorded this and all the other Space Harrier music onto cassette at one point in my life. Most likely on one of those colorful Memorex blank tapes that everybody used in the mid to late '80s.
@@RiderRated18 You press Right, Left, Down, Up during the title screen and it would take you to the Sound Test. It might have been Left, Right, but one of those combinations would do the trick!!
The combination was 7,4,3,7,4,8,1 (song numbers...) That would take you to the settings menu. You could turn on auto fire, reverse down/up and, indeed, turn into a jet
thanks for uploading this! i know that the japanese version seems to be generally considered better, but there's just something about this version and these tones...
Just because the MS and GB both run on a Zilog Z80 (Technically the Game Boy uses a *similar* chip) doesn't mean they use the same sound hardware. The MS uses a Yamaha PCM chip that can only do 3 square waves and 1 noise, where the Game Boy can do 2 square waves at a time, plus noise and an audio sample.
Kzinssie (porygonlover322) Ok, coming back to this comment I have a couple rebuttals. -Good Master System- music has to survive entirely on composition. Interesting instrumentation won't get you very far if your tune is badly-written or just plain bland. Second: as with any chip, you can do interesting things with the sn76489. Just ask this guy (m.soundcloud.com/howtofamitracker/fantasia-in-funk-sn7-original). Hell, the echoey volume effect in the opening to the Sagaia final stage theme is really fuckin' cool! That dragon's face, though.
"Gettin' real tired of your shit, Space Harrier".

brymilan There was, you had to do combination on the D Pad and it would come up, completely forgotten what that combination was though lol

@@joedelaselva5876 that combination does sound about right from memory 🤔👍
Then, there was a code in the sound test to change things like making yourself into a jet.

OMFG! thank you almost forgot about this one! :D
Every time I listen moves me...
Too spectacular!
this theme + playing this with a Turbo Controller (or with the rapid fire unit) = Great fun to be had.
Nice.
Muita nostalgia.
Damn... Reminiscence...
DIAMOND FORTRESS ZONE ACT 1 - THE LEGEND OF DREAMS: TIMID MARK'S SERIOUS ADVENTURE
Nice avatar!
8-Bit rules!
(My avatar on most websites is a very similar screenshot from the same film)
Good Master System music has to survive entirely on composition, because it's literally impossible to get interesting instrumentation out of the chip.
I'm sorry what? Game Boy has better sound then the Master System/Game Gear

yeah, and the Game Boy had better sound as a result

Renne
Word. I hate it when people give the SN76489 shit, as it's an alright chip. Not the best, but not terrible like some claim it is
I didn't even know it's from a film.
I just got it from an imageboard.
