    I love Bluechips-I had a CT 60 mandolin pick for 15 years until it broke. Picked up the smaller TP 48 and a TAD 50. Great picks

    Great video! Your guitar is already starting to mellow to my ears, even through these cheap speakers at work.

      Yes sir, she has definitely settled in for the long-haul now. I sure love it. This thing comes out of the case raring to go, and bellowing like a bull. I told Jimmy I nicknamed it Tugboat, or Tug for short. 😂

    Nice Shawn! Now please show a video of you making and shaping these picks :-)
    Just made my first tortoise and it’s a bit rough still. Having been using BC and really really like the Charmed Life casein picks

      I had thought about doing that. At least doing one of some of the sanding and buffing. That stuff takes a really long time to sand smooth if it is a good piece LOL.

    After listening several times I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those pics. Man that guitar though, when you play that slow G chord good gracious😄

    i love TAD-IR 60's. Makes a warm bold tone. I have sampled 14 BC's. I also love the SR-60.
    A little slower but what a lack of pick noise!
    Also most thumb like of any pick I have ever tried in my 55 years of pickin'.
    Thanks Shawn.....

    HI Shawn. SO sorry I've missed all the last week of your posts. My internet modem gave it up so been without TV & internet for the week. I'll review the unboxing & all I missed from you. It's been a trauma!!! LOL.

      I've been using BlueChip TAD 50 on my hog dreadnought & it seems to have answers to most everything. Love the grip quality & the tone of the 1.25mm. Having 3 tips doesn't hurt as well. I've got a spare that will probably remain as is forever.

      Man I was wondering where you were when I did that unboxing! For a minute I thought you might have gotten mad at me about something LOL. Sorry to hear about your Internet, we do a great deal of suffering in that regard around here as well. Almost makes me want to move into town LOL.

    I use the BC TAD 50. Im naturally a finger picker though, and had to transition into picks a year or 2 ago because of a fingernail infection I got. Finger picking can dig your nail down into the skin pretty deep if you play hard enough. Either way, I looked at some tortoise picks on Etsy, but dont trust the sellers...What do you think about buffalo bone picks?

    • @ShawnBrockMusic
      @ShawnBrockMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man I will tell you the truth, I can’t say that I have for sure tried a pick made from Buffalo bone, but I’m betting that I have. Over the years, I have ran across pics made from some type of bone, cattle or Buffalo I would think, and I did not care for the tone of them. Initially, I thought they would be good and I would like it, but they were very glassy sounding to my ear. Well, glassy and thuddy At the same time, which is a strange combination LOL. 😊

    In this video, on this guitar, my ear favors the BC TAD42--Louder, more bottom end/bass response, more mid resonance but still clear and thick in tone.

    • @ShawnBrockMusic
      @ShawnBrockMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely has the most bottom end of the three without it out. Plus, nothing leaves the string like a BC!

    I've been flatpicking for 25 years,and have yet to find a better tone than using Dunlop Delrin 2.0 picks. I tried a Blue Chip head to head against a Dunlop,and the tone was better to my ears with the Dunlop. More bass and midrange, and the bonus-if I lose my Dunlop, it costs $.50 to replace. I'm sure I'll probably get some flack for my comment,but I'm entitled to my opinion too.

    • @ShawnBrockMusic
      @ShawnBrockMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won’t get any flack around here brother, and if you do I’ll back you up on it. I used them old 2 mm purple Dunlops on mandolin for most of my life, and used them on guitar for quite some time. In fact, I still always use them on guitar when I’m playing jazz stuff. I went to the lighter purple Dunlop 1.5 mm on mandolin A couple of years ago, but still find myself reaching for the old 2.0 mm with frequency. The only reason I got off of them on Bluegrass Guitar, was I liked a little more ching in my rhythm playing than what they offer. I used to get the big bag of 144 picks, and they would last me for several years. In fact,I probably have about 100 of them in my case right now. As I recall, the last time I ordered a bag of 144, it was less than $40, so the same price of one boutique pick.

      @cherylwatson4293 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Dunlop Delrins are the best inexpensive picks I have found. The bevel is not really smooth so I end up rehaping (a bit less point) and polishing it until it is very smooth and rolls right off of the strings. I like the 1.5mm or 1.2mm.
