- “Building the Silt Trap at Fensmere: Step-by-Step Construction Process”
In this video, we go back to last year when my good mate Billy Berridge came over to help me with the construction of the Silt Trap at Fensmer. A silt trap is a crucial element of lake construction designed to protect the environment. A silt trap plays a vital role in filtering out sediment and silt, preventing it from entering the river system.
To meet DDT standards and regulations, the silt trap was constructed below the dam. Here’s how it works: when the main lake is drained, water flows into the Pecherie area and passes through a 200mm pipe in the Pecherie wall into the 150m² silt trap. Another 200mm pipe with an upstand allows water to drain from the top layers, leaving sediment at the bottom of the trap, where it can be removed as needed.
Maintaining compliance with environmental regulations is essential to protecting aquatic ecosystems, and this silt trap ensures the lake at Fensmere meets those standards. Watch as we show you the step-by-step process of building this essential structure!

This is so educational to clubs and anglers, if only they would view, instead of some influencer catching fish!
Thanks Fred, I should have charted the whole journey, but I am glad I have now started. I am sure more will follow and hopefully gain some info and have a little laugh along the way as well.
