I have had mine Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN Sports Lens now for two weeks, it is very easy to carry in my hands for several hours, when I carry it upside down in my left hand with the front of the Lens pointing forward, then it only takes a second to hold the Camera up to my eye and shoot, very nice and easy, I can very highly recommend this Lens !
Lovely images of the cormorants. Thanks for sharing. On a crop sensor, 500mm is plenty of reach when birding. I wish this was available for the Canon RF mount, as it is 1/3 less weight compared to my RF 100-500.
Great to hear you like it to! ☺️ and you would think so! Unfortunately I’ve never seen White-Tailed Kite in the nearly 10 times I’ve been there, but I have seen Northern Harrier, saw one on this particular day just didn’t include it in the video. Coolest thing we get in that area sometimes is Golden Eagle
I've never seen cormorants portrayed so eloquently! I'm used to everyone viewing them more as a pest. It's nice to see them get some positive light for a change! :)
So interesting! I guess for me with them being less common where I’m at I always have viewed them as fascinating ☺️ interesting to see how what you’re used to determines how exciting it is to you
@@JeremyNeipp This is the biggest thing I struggle with on my channel and constantly have to remind myself! What's common for me, could be fascinating for someone else. I need to focus more on recording my common species and not just searching for rare species for my videos.
Had a go on one recently and it really is a cracking lens. Just a shame there's still not a fast L-mount camera better suited to wildlife action shots. I'm holding out hope for an S1II that finally pulls the L-mount over the 10 FPS w/ continuous AF barrier they seem to have been stuck behind for years 😅 Alongside some tasty phase-detect AF of course!
I would love to know a little more, have you used the Sony 200-600mm to compare it to? What is the autofocus speed and wide open sharpness like compared to the 200-600mm? I'm thinking of getting the lens but for the price I would want a noticeable image quality improvement, and no compromise in autofocus speed to the sony lens.
Thanks and so good that i subscribed. Now, please tell me what camera body are you usi g with this lens? Sec i have a Canon R7 , will the Sigma 500 be suitable?
Glad to have you! Unfortunately Canon is closed off to other brands building lenses for their mounts, so Sigma isn't allowed to make one for Canon mirrorless cameras
I've been on the fence for months about this lens. Although I have an A7RV and can crop heavily, I'd love to be able to use my 1.4x teleconverter on this lens. It's really irritating that Sony won't allow that.
Hard to believe how photographers talk about weight, I carry the Tamron 150 to 600, 24 -75, 15-35 and sometimes the 24-105 along with batteries and even a notebook plus the Canon 1dx Mark 3 but now I replaced it with the Canon R5 and I hike at the age of 61.
I do the same David, I carry a backup camera, 24-70, 16-35, 135 often in my bag beyond my super telephoto setup, the weight of the super telephoto being light is not for sake of backpack weight only, but more so for handholding capabilities while shooting. Shooting a 5 lbs super telephoto prime is much more difficult to keep stable than a 2 lbs
I love the speed of this video! The slower start with wide views of the landscape really helped set the stage :)
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the different style ☺️

Awesome to hear your experience with it! Super glad to hear you like it too :)
3:40 curious what you are filming with? Appers to zoom in at 3:40 so i presume it's a second camera/lens
S5II and Sigma 24-70 2.8! 🙌🏻

Thank you! Yea 500 on a AF-C is plenty for most scenarios, even on a FF it’s great for half the time
Looks like a perfect habitat for White-tailed Kites and Northern Harriers! Love this Lens with my Sony A7rv

Ditto!! Holding out on the same hope 😂😂
Awesome location. I've got a local hidden gem on my radar, hope to check it out in the next few weeks. Rain ruined my plans last week.
Thank you! Hope you’re able to get out there
i got the 500 5.6 for my A1, and its freakin' awesome.
Glad to hear ☺️🙌🏻

@@KurtisPape it’s way sharper, with AF being slightly faster. Sharpness is comparable to the 600 f4
is 15 fps still good though? Reason i got the A1 was for 30 FPS and its silly it won't let you do 15 fps but thats sony for you.

Sony’s restrictions are really annoying sometimes!
You have the coolest job ever man. Do you bring binoculars with you or does the camera do the job just fine?
😎 camera does the job fine! I virtually never use binoculars except for special reasons
I have a sigma 135-400mm that weighs 5 lbs😭 but I still love it
😂😂 that’s an old boy!
Yessir 2008 I think it came out with the camera I’m using this lens with is the Nikon d3300
have you tried S5II with the sigma 500mm f5.6? I wonder how good the birding is with this combo.
I haven’t in any of these films, but I did a little for fun on my own. I liked it, not a ton different from my S1R paired with it though
My friend Wile is actually quite good at catching those roadrunners
Can you upload a video on batteries? How many do I need and what kind
Completely depends on your camera model!
What a lens! My canon gear is really close to getting sold, lens after lens is released by Sigma. Im not jealous of Sony😅
😂😂 it’s a pretty great lens! Sigma has been really stepping it up the past 2 years!
Too bad there's no Canon RF version :(

It's a convenience to have lighter equipment. Just cause some people like to doomsday prep their camera bags doesn't mean everyone does.

Want a medal for unnecessary stuff in your bag?
Lens weighs 3lb not 2
I cannot understand "nature" photographers, totally geared in camouflage....but cannot silent their shutter!?🤔
Most any camera can’t get a “silent shutter” without electronic, which means image distortion on rolling or movement.
