All Ford Mustang GT350's Need This $20 Modification

  • The first thing I noticed driving a GT350 is the odd clutch pedal feel. Not only is the engagement weird but the pedal effort seems to change through the clutch travel. Needless to say, this didn't feel normal to me. Fortunately I'm not the only one who thinks it's weird, there is an aftermarket replacement spring you can easily replace to help give the clutch a more traditional feel.
    If you want the spring I used checkout the link below. They sell an entire housing replacement, but it's not necessary. Just get the spring itself and swap out your old one.

    Obviously it's personal preference, but I can't stand the stock clutch spring. I should have my Steeda spring next week and I can't wait to swap it out. With the stock spring, there's virtually no weight/resistance at the top or bottom, then it progressively changes to various degrees as you reach mid-range of travel - it is not consistent at ANY point. Yeah, WE KNOW Mr. TH-cam Technicians, that you are not changing the engagement point, but the clutch spring makes the engagement point difficult to predict. You feel like you're at the top of the release, because the clutch has very little resistance (THINKING: "My foot is almost off the clutch, there's nothing there"). But the clutch STILL isn't engaged, and you're STILL experiencing clutch travel - you just can't feel it. Then, CLUNK, the fucker engages all at once, or you gas it too soon, or when you down shift, you release the clutch too late, etc.). I've had 8 manual vehicles (three Mustangs), and this is the most irritating clutch feel I've ever experienced.

Is there anything you can warn me to watch out for as I do my search? This will be a big purchase for me and I'd like to get it right. I've had my '18 GT for about a month now and, I'm not gonna say I hate it but I do dislike it, for one it makes the clutch feel heavier at the top especially when you try to modulate it, for two it makes me buck the car when I'm trying to go quickly from a stop, it is IMPOSSIBLE to stop at the bite point unless you put so much focus and force on your leg that it hurts, or you rev it to the moon.
    Anyway I'm just gonna take the spring out and I think I have to get the spring you got. I want the lightest spring possible is it the one you bought?

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Running without the spring there is a concern that the pedal will not return to the full up position when not depressed. That's why this spring is great, it's just enough pressure to return the pedal fully but not too much that you lose feel from too much assist.

      @@BoostBrothersGarage Just having fun. A buddy of mine just bought a 2018 GT350 a few days ago. He flew in last night and I took him for a ride in my 2018 ZL1. He was very impressed. They're both great cars. Please don't steal mine. ;)
