@privatehudson4432 The reason for this IS so that the concontrol is.only.reset too many times and the chamber does not get way too flooded....that would be treacherous if it were to light.
Dude you saved me. Can’t get oil until tomorrow so I got 10 gallons of diesel and went through your progressions. Furnace kicked on the second bleed. Thanks!
Hi Scott, I’m a 70 year old lady that lives on her own. This video was perfect for me to get my furnace running today. Fortunately this happened during the day and not not freezing temps. Everything is good to go now and I can still get up and down from the floor ok 😁
You have no idea what a precious service you're doing for a world of desperate people like me! God bless you. I left my like, subscribed to your channel, and turned the notifications on!
Thank you for your help! It's been years so I didn't remember all the details. I used the 3/8 wrench, a washed/dry dunkin donuts straw and a 2 liter empty soda bottle on the bleeder so I could rest it on the ground while it caught the excess oil, then I could focus on closing the valve once the air was out, then poured the extra back in the tank. It started right back up!
that's Genius! if I have to do it again I will have to remember the trick with the straw and the bottle. I used plastic bags and Cat Litter, just to keep from making a mess!
I gave up trying to bleed my boiler last night and then Googled a fix today. Your video came up and it took all of 1 minute for it to fire up. Thank you very much!!
$250!!??? 😳 It's about $60-$80 for service call in my small town! Small town living does have it's perks, I guess! (PLUS, the oil truck delivery driver offered to come in & get it started for me!)
I'm so glad I saw your clip explaining how to use it and how to fix it. It was very helpful to me. I forgot to look at my oil gauge grade. It caused me to spend a lot of time distracted resetting this machine. Thank you very much. Really appreciate it.
Thank you! First time in 24 years of home ownership and I ran out of oil. Dumped 17 gallons of Diesel into the tank, followed your steps, and now I can be assured that I won't cause anyone to pass out from my body odor at the event I'm going to tonight.
I just wanted to say thank you so much!!! This was the simple and perfect solution to my system just continuing to blow cold air. I am married with 4 kids and it’s currently 13 degrees outside and I’ve been dealing with this for a day at least. Holding the reset button for 45 seconds and bleeding the line of any air fixed it. Took about 3 minutes to get the right tools and we have heat!! Thank you!
Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the hard lockout, saved me a service call. Also, a short piece of 5/16" tubing fits perfectly on the end of the bleeder valve, allowing for a cleaner priming.
Turned on my heater and nothing. Found out it was in the permanent lockout. Reset it and let it cycle and it went to lockout again. Reset it again and opened the valve as in the video and it worked instantly. Blowing hot hair again. Thank you!
Thank you last year we ran out of oil at the end of winter, I was deep googling and everything said call a rep I knew there was air in the oil line and I didn't want to spend 250$+ for someone to loosen a bolt lol you just saved me money ❤
This is so weird. Back from 2012-2017 my family owned and ran a handyman service named Everyday Home Repairs. My dad, along with me and my younger brother, did the handyman work, while my mom stayed home with my baby brother and answered calls. (Well, my brother and I were a bit young to be much of a help, so we mostly handed tools and cleaned up) Imagine my surprise when TH-cam recommends me a handyman channel of the same name.
You can use 1/4 ID -3/8 OD clear vinyl plastic tubing and a container so you can see the oil when bleeding the oil pump makes it easier to see when you have a good oil flow or not make it easy to troubleshoot and life easier
I just moved into a trailer that has this exact furnace actually and when I moved in I found a orange juice jug that was clear and clear tubing I meant to throw it away but me procrastinating never did but what I find most hilarious is that I spent the last four days trying to get my damn furnace up Watch this video and I had to just reset my lockout thing
Thanks for the info. I replaced a dirty filter and a little later I noticed the furnace wasn't running ( we also have a Franco Belge gravity feed oil burner so our oil fired forced air system is backup). I must have gotten air in the line and after a few cycles, I'm back in business. Thanks again.
My friend! Thank you! You just saved a lot of people headaches and money. I ran out of oil because my oil gauge is stuck at the middle and I thought I had oil. Turns out I'm empty and I know I'll need to bleed the oil line.
Can I tell you how much I laughed in joy when this actually worked. I thought to myself it seems scary with a flammable liquid and mechanical jawns all around but I know how to bleed brake lines on a motorcycle so it can’t be that hard. Great video and it worked like a charm on a Becket 750S
Thank you so much. I had forgotten how to do this especially with this new house so to speak with a new set up very easy and I got my heater set up! And running 45 seconds it took a couple times but thank you Scott 🙏
Thank you so much for this video!! You saved my life! lol ... I just replaced my pump, nozzle, ignitor, and almost replace my blower or circuit board. My oil boiler would call for heat click and hum.... but not try to fire or turn my blower on.. I could not figure this out....... I probably did most of it for nothing but it works now.. PERMANENT LOCK OUT Thanks so much for this video I could not find anything anywhere!!!
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I'm a new home owner and am not familar at all with oil heating. Or an oil heater that heats my water😢 I followed this and got my heater on so I dont have to take anymore cold showers!!!
Thanks a lot was freaking out, went into permanent lock out when i was bleeding it, there was a lot of air because I replaced the pump strainer too. They only thing written is after reset once call a technician.
Thanks so much man! Watched a couple videos before I got the job done, yours was key as I didn't realize it might take nearly a minute on that button to reset the system (I thought I'd borked it).
Thank you for posting this video. This video, along with some friendly Reddit helpers, got my heat back on! Up until today I don’t know oil heaters had a bleeder screw like a brake caliper. It was 15 degrees today when we lost our heat and we did not look forward towards another frigid night. This video + Reddit really saved the day. Thank you
Hi Scott. This video is very helpful and I'm doing everything you're instructing. However, I did a little over 10 iterations trying to get this flame to burn. My furnace hasn't been turned on for over a year. I wanted to see if it's operational. I put 15 gal of fuel in it and still getting air. How much fuel would you recommed to just see a flame started? Thanks.
You probably have plenty of fuel just sounds like the line still isn't primed. I was having an issue where my fuel line filter was plugged. Once I swapped that out fuel was much easier to get through the lines to make sure the unit primed and was able to light.
great video, what do I do if there is oil in/at the tank but not going to the filter outside the tank , clear filter just no oil getting to the filter, I dont have an air compressor , is there a way to clear it out with out an air compressor ? thanks for the advice
excellent video. are they run on disel? tank is empty and i need just a bit to get it going while renovating Also, are they much more expensive to run compared to electric heat umps? Not sure if i should consider replacing the unit with an electric one.
I was running this one on Diesel during the renovation. I then eventually swapped it out with a Mr Cool Hyper Heat ducted system. th-cam.com/video/JKcvUjD9NrU/w-d-xo.html
You do not need to open the bleeder valve on a 2 pipe system, it will prime itself by recycling the unit. The bleeder port is for a 1 pipe hook up without the return line. The newer R728B Honeywell primary control has a bleed by pass feature built into the controller for priming the unit from 1-10 minuets if needed.
Good video. I’m not in the business but I believe once the motor starts, you can simply jump out the safety and it will run until the air is all bled out of the lines and then you can close the bleeder and the burner will fire and you can remove the jumper from r r
I’ve got a becket Deisel burner and I’ve got good fuel supply and new external filter I’ve checked the internal filter and it’s clean and tried the bleeding process checked the signal to the fuel valve coil and the controller is sending power to the coil to open it and it’s still not building any pressure would a bad coil to the fuel valve cause it not to build fuel pressure ? Or is the fuel pump bad ? Thanks in advance
I was nervous to try this. I didn’t even know what a boiler looked like and was able to completely resolve the issue within no more than 10 mins of taking action! Some things that might be helpful to note 1. The oil switch to the burner can and I think has to be on while you do this. I wasn’t sure about that part and was worried I’d blow up, but still here 😅 2. Although the oil comes out in drips slowly here it might come out quite strong and fast, so make sure you have a bucket under it and that your out of the way of splash or wearing clothes you’re okay with getting oil on. Having paper towels or a rag handy would have also been good. 3. For my boiler it was just one press of the button, not a 45 second hold.
My red interupted ignition oil primary control had a flashing red light/button. I pushed the button in and got two green lights (pump prime/flame) and then it fired up. 15-20 seconds later it made sputtering sound so i opened up the little pilot door tonsee if it still had flames firing and it made an awful sound and extinguished, shooting soot and black smoke everywhere. Guess i needed to do this fuel drain cycle thing you do here? Or was the issue i didnt hold that button for 45 sec, i just pressed it in real quick. Not big on DIY stuff involving fire and smoke erupting when and where you sont want it to if ya do something wrong haha, prob pay someone else at this point
I have the same R7184B and my fuel flows. I replaced the eye that detects the flame. Mine still shuts off after attempting to get it out of lock out mode.
Have the same system and controller. It will run well after the reset and bleed, but if I turn it off for a couple hours, it will not fire again and I'll need to bleed it again. Then it works okay. I have a feeling it's sucking air back into the fuel line. Any suggestions?
I have done this reset before.. but what can I do if there is no power going to the controler. No led lights at all. I checked the breaker, but that is not the issue. What can I do?
Thank you. We even have the manual that came with our furnace. Under the entire section of "COMMON CAUSES OF TROUBLE" the dipschits who wrote this thing only gave the explanation of what the lock out is and then never said what to do for checking what caused it
so i did the 45 second lock out and opened the bleeding valve. no air in lines but my furnace keeps shutting off after like 3 seconds. i tried this several times and still the same thing after 3 seconds of running
5 TRILLION VIDEOS ON TH-cam THIS IS THE ONLY GUY THAT TELLS YOU TO HOLD IT DOWN FOR 45 SECONDS !!!! THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!! SAVED ME 300!!!!!!!!!

10 gallons would last you like 3 weeks lol I use 2 gallons

Hey Scott you are a lifesaver, your instructions were simple and easy too follow. Thanks so much for your videos
Thank you so, so much!! This totally got my furnace started this season!
You're the best! Especially the long reset... we were so stuck until this!

Reset it again and opened the valve as in the video and it worked instantly. Blowing hot hair again. Thank you!

Bro. u are so awesome. i couldnt figure out why it wouldn't reset lol.
Mine had rust in the small line that goes into the burner.

How to replace the igniter?
Thank you
I can’t get my furnace to do a hard reset, what should I do?
What happens if the bolt doesn't turn to bleed the furnace? I'm trying to bleed the furnace to restart it.
The hard lockout on mine was a result of a bat being stuck in the fan in the oil pump so you can watch out for that too!
Thank u so much it help me out
so i did the 45 second lock out and opened the bleeding valve. no air in lines but my furnace keeps shutting off after like 3 seconds. i tried this several times and still the same thing after 3 seconds of running
