I think these guys are really underappriciated. They can play an incredible amount of instruments, they can sing, they write everything by themselves, they can speak a lot of different languages, they are funny (watch their talkshow, they ususally have english subtitles).
Just look at this video.
They learned a really hard knot and created a dance for it.
And it's not even fake, they do tie the knot in the video and the dance works irl for tying it. An incredible amount of work and talant for something that's discarded as stupid songs.
I think they are more deserving of fame than the majority of pop stars famous in mainstream music today.

At first I just kinda sat there not knowing that to think of the new song. Then Vegard lovingly crashed his little boat and fell into the water and I laughed so hard, I shot lemonade out of my nose! I really dig the music. I LOVE the country twang. I really like that they did something unexpected. That's one of the many reasons I love Ylvis so much. We've seen do so many vocal styles, it isn't hard to fathom country as a logical progression for their sometimes illogical brand of humor. We have seen them rap (Gangsta Babies, Pressure), tackle slow jazz (The Cabin, Careless Whisper), belt out gospel (Pie Jesu), Christmas standards (Ja, Da Vet Du Det Er Jul), R & B (Work It), Tha dubstep (Someone Like Me) and 80's power rock (Jan Egeland). It nice to see them continue the tradition of mixing it up and keeping us on our toes and Electro-Country is naturally the next step. I love it. Who knows...this might become the next line dance song in country music dance clubs all over the world!!! Keep rocking Bård and Vegard!!

I Fing LOVE this video. I did the same thing as a child. I learned every knot in a book. As an adult, I proudly used a "sheepshank" to connect two different kinds of wire for a friend's wedding. The "knot" would not allow the wires to pull apart. No matter how goofy Ylvis is, I still love them. I also love their younger brother "I will never be a star."--that guy. They're great.

I can't stand those that think any viral song by these guys is a copy of "Fox Say" They've been doing this for a lot longer than "Fox Say". And if you're going to be like that "Fox Say" could be considered a basic copy of "My Cabin." Just because a song goes viral. It doesn't mean it's a copy of another song by the same artist.

The beat that sounds like the one in Gentleman is subtle enough to make people think they heard it somewhere, they did that on purpose because they've been compared a lot to Psy. It's a knot used by truckers.
It's primarily used to tie things down to the top of your car. Seen alone as Ylvis does it here, it's useless (except as an entertaining dance). However, take a look at the diagram in the book, it goes around a ring. If you loop the main body of the rope around something on top of your car, you can anchor one end with a trucker's hitch, which is easy to tighten and won't slip.

I pretty much agree with you. Jan Egeland, Stonehenge, Work It, The Fox I would rank as "Tier 1", Pressure, Someone Like Me, The Cabin as "Tier 2". Massachusetts and Trucker's Hitch are catchy and have some moments that make me chuckle, but the comedy is not as smart as their other songs.

I was literally trying to learn this yesterday. It looks like the king of knots.
Everyone should learn to make a truckers hitch. It's super easy, it turns your rope into a pulley system (block and tackle) which is so strong you can secure the heaviest load on your car or whatever. I swear, once you learn it, you will use it every time you tie something down.

Are you referring to the fact that theyre singing about knots, right after previously singing about foxes? No one seems to be outright pointing out the correlation between the two and the way the lyrics are it seems very ambiguous about whether or not its a coincidence. but since its titled Trucker's Hitch isntead of something more obvious I assume it probably is just coincidence
