What in hell is the difference between pork and ham to the brits? The potato comes from the state of Idaho. We in Idaho usually don't see them in our stores. That size is only reserved for restaurants.
I hope when you say bacon bits you aren't thinking of the fake bacon substitute. Quality restaurants cook real bacon and crumble it to put on items. It's no low quality substitute. Good for Gaynor trying grits again.
There is no such thing as Louisiana BBQ. But you can find BBQ in pretty much every state. That doesn’t mean the style of BBQ is exclusively a Louisiana style. You would think these two food travelers could be smarter.
Don’t be surprised if you try grits done right and you still don’t like them. I’ve tried them several times and just can’t enjoy them. I don’t get what the hype is. Can’t wait for you guys to try food like this in America.
Very good advice. If I had to say one suggestion when you travel when it comes to food. And that is to erase what you think words are describing. A baked potato or jacket potato that you know is not the same as you will get when you travel. Don't say I won't have that because I don't like it in the UK. Try it then decide. What Ollie says about the Potato Soup is ridiculous. It's not watery mash. He's got a restriction in his mind and it's blocking his ability to taste freshly what he is eating. That's only over come in time if he was to stay long enough to try it one or more times again in the future.
Butter is what was being poured over the meat at the beginning of the video. It's called a "butter bath" and is similar to what's done at a steakhouse.
Ah Aiden, you can tell he's still a bit iffy on trying new things. Just go for it lad. I was sixteen years old at a restaurant with my parents in Jackson Hole Wyoming where I tried sliced and deep fried Rocky Mountain Oysters (bull testicles) for the first time and it was delicious. I've had rattlesnake, Elk (the best meat ever better than beef), Moose (as good as Elk), Bison, Deer etc. and they were all tasty and unique in their own way. Take a chance. You never know until you try. You just might be surprised.
My opine For the Grits... either butter or bacon drippings, mild cheddar cheese, a dash of black pepper or Tony's in the mix while they get ready. A pinch of cayenne atop, and mix it into a velvety spicy warm blanket that'll get you through the winter.
Gaynor might not like grits even if it's prepared well. I'm from the South, and we grew up eating grits, yet my dad doesn't like grits. He doesn't like the texture. So even though a lot of people like it, it's not uncommon to find people who don't.
We never had grits before and we were a bit skeptical about trying them based on what we watched in a movie called "My Cousin Vinny" many years ago, we made a trip down to New Orleans for the first time a couple years ago and we tried shrimp and grits those were delicious and, on another dinner, outing one of our dinners included cheesy grits. We were quite surprised and pleased with our findings we actually liked and enjoyed grits! I would encourage Gaynor to give it another try, and Aiden should give them a try as well.
I’m from California and I grew up eating grits. I love it. we usually don’t do the Southern style of grits mixed in with other things. I had shrimp and grits a few months ago for the first time in Washington DC and it was delicious. I couldn’t even tell I was eating grits.
18:34 This comes from growing up eating fish and grits, but I used to like to put lemon pepper on my fish and one day I spilled some on my buttered grits, I've never been able to eat grits without lemon pepper ever since
My husband and I live in Arkansas and this Thanksgiving (today) our 3 kids, who live in 3 different states won’t be here today (in-laws get them but we get them for Christmas)! So, we decided to have our own style of a Thanksgiving meal: Fried catfish, fried shrimp, fried mushrooms, green bean casserole, and deviled eggs! We are so excited!!😂 We didn’t want turkey or ham so we went with what we love! Hope y’all have a wonderful visit to the US and that every single person you come in contact with is extremely kind and polite to y’all!! If anyone is rude to y’all, I want to personally apologize for their abhorrent behavior. Welcome to America!!!! 🇺🇸
Stay away from grits, it's an acquired taste and I still haven't acquired it. BBQ is a must! Chick fil a is required. Make sure u get the sauces. Make sure u try a good Mexican restaurant. Can't wait for the vids!

By the way, if you ever have a chance to get a baked/jacketed potato with smoked meat on it (e.g. pulled/shredded pork, chunked brisket, burnt ends, etc), DO IT! It is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
The greenish clear sauce looked like olive oil. Theres a traditional New Orleans sandwich called a muffaletta that uses a olive oil dressing that's incredible.
4:40 Fatty Brisket is the end of the brisket where there is a nice line of fat down the center. As opposed to lean brisket which is the thinner end where that line of fat is either very thin or non-existent.
I’m American and I had steak and eggs for breakfast for the first time about two years ago at a restaurant called the Millbrae pancake House in Millbrae California. I’m normally not fond of hashbrowns the way they are supposed to be made with shredded potatoes and lightly tossed and fried but the Millbrae pancake house makes their hash brown seasoned with love and it taste awesome.
Don’t forget that you can make a meal out of a baked potato in the US. We’ll put meat on the potatoes too. 😜 Indian food is becoming a lot more popular here.
There is a deli near me that sells baked potatoes as a meal. They are 1lb baked potatoes and you can order from 15 different topping combinations from their menu or make your own using any of the 50 available ingredients.
That’s just common here in Texas. I go for the brisket potato myself but as you mentioned, you can choose tons of meat and/or vegetable fillings. Usually I make it lunch and dinner because they’re so big lol
Grits are much like baked potatoes in that they don't have a ton of flavor by themselves. Both have a light undertone of flavor and they are both at their best when seasoned with things such as butter, salt, pepper, cheese, bacon, hot sauce, etc.
I would like to see you all eat the foods you feel right now you would never think of trying and see how you like them. That would be worth watching on this channel!
I can't believe they didn't try the wings in rooster sauce. I wanted to know what that tastes like. Everything looked great. Have a good time in the US!!
10:20 I just did my first smoked turkey last night and it came out incredible. I soaked it in this cranberry orange brine and it was perfect. I was worried the turkey was gonna get dry, but it was perfect.
13:40 Often struggle with English accents period, much less when they get excited. But Daz all of a sudden sounded like one of the Beatles with that sing song accent! Like McCartney from back in the day
I live in Texas (born and raised 65 years) and I'm not a grits fan either. I've tried them in 3 different Southern states and even at a Michelin. Star restaurant. For me personally, Louisiana food is more about Crawfish, Oysters, Blue Crabs, Fried Alligator and po boy sandwiches, beignets, chickery coffee., Cajun cooking and spices. All of which I love. (Popeye's chicken started in Louisiana.) Texas, being the cattle country with over 4 million cows, bulls, Longhorns, BBQ and Steak is king. In Ft. Worth Texas, real cowboys do a Texas Longhorn (cattle) roundup down a main street, twice per day in the Stockyard section of the city.
