But could you even imagine how bad of an infrastructure that'd be? Border guard stations at every state boundary. Pulling up to, let's say, Illinois, "Alright, show us your passport. You bringing in any produce, meat, weapons, or illegal substances? You here for work or vacation? How many days are you planning on staying in the state?" I'm headed to the O' Hare to fly home, bruh. Oh look, some hooligans are trying to illegally cross the Californian state border again to flee to Nevada.

The US is a country made up of numerous, very unique and diverse cultural regions. We have such a variety…from topography to climate to cuisine to culture. We may not always embrace the differences but I for one am appreciative. ❤️

    • @eolsunder

well that is basically as an american what we say about the country to europeans. Think of it as europe except where you have a large area with many countries, we have a large area with many states. Think state=country. In size the US and Europe are about the same size, so its easy to compare. You have germany, france, italy, we have south dakota, georgia, maryland, and so on. And also most forget. Canada right above is is BIGGER than the united states. It doesn't have the international focus like the usa has, but people tend to forget the hat on top of the usa is bigger than the usa lol.

Annapolis is our state capital. It was founded during the 18th century, and the downtown area remains largely unchanged since then. The capitol building, which dates from this period, is the oldest state capitol in continuous use. Annapolis is an old port city, and it is known as a sailing center, including some very high-tech and elite design and manufacturing firms. It is also the home of the U.S. Naval Academy (for football fans, this is where Navy plays). All in all, the city ties together the urban and suburban core to the north and west (the area between Baltimore and DC), with the more rural and nautical Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland. Thanks for the shout-out -- we think Annapolis is very unique.

Several Europeans tell me that Annapolis reminds them of European cities, with its narrow streets, lined with shops. The last time I was there, I was on wide streets, with a modern shopping mall, but I was taking my mother to a medical office there and not touring.

    • @johnalden5821
      @johnalden5821 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@jimjungle1397 As an interesting sidebar, the modern, developed area at the western edge of Annapolis is called Parole. It got that name because, during the Civil War, it was the site of a large camp where Union POWs were sent after being captured. Under the system of "parole" used by both sides, captured soldiers were removed from active duty and then offered the ability to sign a pledge that they would not fight until they were officially exchanged or their enlistments ran out. Then, they could go home. My great-grandfather, who was captured by Stonewall Jackson's troops at Harpers Ferry in 1862, was paroled at that very camp outside Annapolis. He went back home to Ohio, where he stayed for more than a year, until he was able to re-enlist in late 1863 to serve out the remainder of the War. BTW/the parole system broke down after the first year or two, and after that, both sides set up (horrific) POW camps, where thousands of men died. Had Parole (and parole) not been there in 1862, I would probably not be here, either.

My experience with Ohio is that there is a large urban/rural split in culture, economics, etc. There are a lot of pleasant small towns in the rural areas. There are also sprawling suburban areas. Most of those people will have little to do with the inner cities. So, you have a big dichotomy between Rust Belt, struggling cities and small-town Ohio. Granted, that's a pretty good description of most of the U.S.

People from New Jersey get a bad rap, but if you lived under democrats for your entire life, you’d probably curse a lot and have a short fuse too lol. We might always be in a hurry, and we might tell you to f*** off, but that’s just our way of saying “Hey, I’m late, I don’t have time for your BS.” Unless you’re driving like a New Yorker, then we mean it. Lol. New Jersey’s very weird, we even have a magazine called Weird NJ, one of my favorite publications. All the people are weird too, in both good and bad ways. We are all fiercely loyal to our state and reputation, but if you ask any single one of us whether we like living here, we’ll probably say no, as soon as “X” happens I’m moving to “X other state.” It’s a love-hate relationship. I’m proud to be from Jersey, because it makes you tough, between the crime, all the fights, and the financial difficulties in living here, if you can make it in Nj, you can live almost anywhere. But the state has been ruined by liberals and progressive policies, in my opinion. I love Jersey, it’s a great state with a lot of really interesting history, and cool people, but unless it does a complete 180 and turns around soon, I can’t wait to get the f*** out of here lol. I’d prefer to live somewhere that actually respects its citizens and the constitution.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you. This is a TERRIBLE skewed and mostly demeaning video regarding most of these states and cities.

I wouldn't let this guy deter you from visiting Mississippi. It has great food, great college football atmosphere and great coastal area, especially Biloxi. Also, you have to visit Tupelo: childhood home of Elvis Presley.

I am from South Florida, (FT. Lauderdale) born and raised and have lived in quite a few states from California, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Alabama. I currently live in Mississippi for the last 12 years and will never leave. I love this state. I am outside Gulfport/Biloxi. I am extremely disappointed with the turds review of our state.

Hello, from Texas. I think something that he gets overlooked is that, despite us picking on Mississippi, it is still pretty developed compared to a lot of other places. For instance, its Human Development Index, at .866, would fall right in at #38 in the world(out of 191), if it was its own country which would tie it with Portugal. So just because we make fun of Mississippi doesn't make it a hellhole by any means.

@@scotttretten8020 I'll use the Wikipedia summary here: "The Human Development Index (HDI) is a statistic composite index of life expectancy, education (mean years of schooling completed and expected years of schooling upon entering the education system), and per capita income indicators, which is used to rank countries into four tiers of human development. A country scores a higher level of HDI when the lifespan is higher, the education level is higher, and the gross national income GNI (PPP) per capita is higher. It was developed by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq and was further used to measure a country's development by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)'s Human Development Report Office.[1][2][3]"

I've grown up my whole life in Michigan. Like every Big City there could be good and bad parts. Detroit is one of those cities not mentioned was they have the Detroit tigers baseball the Detroit Lions football if anybody knows anything about hockey they've heard the Red wings that's Detroit to they also have the basketball team the Detroit Pistons. They're also known as the motor City because of all the car manufacturing that started here. Ford GM Chrysler the three biggest car companies in the world have their here.
A list is too long to go on.

When you’re from Utah you notice the big and little things that set it apart. Sometimes it feels you feel like you live on an island in the middle of the country. Then you realize it’s been the fastest growing state for over a decade

The problem of the original video video starts there lol…

Kentucky comment correction: The Kentucky Derby is ALWAYS held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY on the first Saturday in May. It is the first of the Triple Crown Races for 3 yr olds. The huge race meet that moves around the country is the Breeder's Cup Races and that meet is held in November annually. BTW, Kentucky is the Bourbon Capital of the world as well .... can't believe that wasn't mentioned in the video.

How many of us fast-forwarded to the part with our own state?
    🙋‍♀️ Virginia here ❤
-his narration of VA was LAME. Our nickname is “the old dominion,“ where the oldest colony in the nation, we are also nicknamed “the cradle of presidents,”. Virginians wrote the founding documents of our nation. We had the capital of the confederacy here, we have the worlds largest military base clumps here. And we have amazing natural resources in the west. Good grief, his descriptions of states on this list was seriously lackluster.

BTW: Alaska is the most eastern state because its islands/territory extends beyond the date/time line. There is nothing more eastern than that.

Some of these were horrifically wrong, but others were spot on. The northeast US is a great place to live. You do need some wealth to live there comfortably. Same thing for where I live, Chicago. Chicago is a great city, but you need to have some wealth to enjoy it. For those in poverty it's a nightmare.

Not a great video at all. As someone from Utah, sure the Mormon Church is a big influence, not nearly as much as it was in years past, but he said nothing about the many amazing Internationally recognized ski resorts or the fact that Utah has some of the best scenery with its national parks. Look up Arches or Zions for an idea. Terrible list with no real insight to what makes any one state actually great. That goes for a lot of the other states as well, just speaking for Utah since I live there.

It's MORE than DECENT, it has a LOT of great and beautiful places, lots of things to do here, lots of great food, museums, theatres, hospitals, parks, plus BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE that they DON'T tear down but use them for other businesses
