It is Eastern Oregon. They are like that all year long; particularly up on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. I never hunted deer because turkeys from Portland are the most dangerous birds in Oregon. His brother was shot by a Portland "deer hunter." Personally, if you are a true hunter for a sport, then use a bow, if not a spear and a knife. Shooting one at 500 yards makes you a better sniper than a hunter.
He's very similar to Dr. Jordan B. Peterson in that way. They can talk for hours upon hours, and you're glued to everything they're saying. Probably because wisdom and competence is so rare these days, hearing the real deal is incredibly captivating and refreshing.

I have to say when Paul pulled out the shockwave and was going to hip shoot those bottles, I though there was going to be some missing involved. I guess I forgot who I'm watching.
For years when visiting my mom who lived in the D/FW area, I took a coach gun length double broken in two in my overnight bag. I was sacrificing capacity, but I figured that if 2 people watched their accomplices get their heads turned to pudding and still came through the door, they would have to be extremely committed to doing us harm!
I forgot to mention that she lived right across from a middle school and often there were parents parked along the street waiting to pick their kids up, so an obvious gun would’ve led to the police being called.
Watching Paul reload each gun before putting them back in his pocket and knowing his strong tendency toward leaving a round in the chamber of his auto loaders reminds me of a scene from Silverado where the bad guys get a jump on the good guy out practicing after he's emptied all his guns at targets. Paul is not falling for that mistake!
For those interested, the pistol with the Winchester white box, 115 grain FMJ yielded about 349 ft-lb of energy and the carbine gave about 488. That's a big difference. Thanks for the video, Paul!
I usually put heavier 145gr jhp in my 32rd mags for my P.C.C. and use 115gr jhp for my glock. The pistol carbine power is pretty close to 357 magnum loads.

I found myself in need of a personal defense weapon after receiving a death threat from a member of organized crime. I ended up with an AR pistol for a few reasons. One of the biggest reason is it qualifies as a handgun and I can carry it loaded and concealed. A concealed loaded rifle is not an option in my area. Other reasons are the fact that I have ammo for an AR, I already know how to operate an AR and it was available.
A year ago, my cousin told me he got an AR pistol. "Why would you do that?" ignorant me asked. "More blast, more noise, less ballistics, less range, same price as a rifle? No thanks." "You can legally keep a pistol loaded in your car with your CHL." I now have two. As you said, caliber redundancy, mag redundancy, optic-ready, ~2700fps out of a 10.5" barrel, muscle memory/ergos/manual of arms transfer, and my understanding is you could swap a longer upper onto the "pistol" and essentially carry a rifle loaded. 👍
@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic - With a 10.5” barrel your AR is probably a bit over 26”, which makes it a firearm rather than a pistol. May want to double check your local laws. Personally I think 10.5” AR is the perfect home defense tool. Plenty of power and range for indoor use and good maneuverability indoors. Particularly good tool for elderly, small stature or infirm individuals.

I put a "cup" (not a "can") blast diverter on mine, which blows all the blast, sound, flame, ect towards the target, taking a lot of the bite out of the short barrel. They are like $20-30/ea on eBay. I'll probably put them on all my ARs. Worth looking in to.

A minor quibble. When I am in the tall and uncut I carry a “bear gun” loaded for the local bear population. For a survival addition I would have a small game carbine so I don’t make sauce out of rabbits. .22 like the Henry AR-7 survival rifle would be a good fit.
I learn so much in a short amount of time from him and he just makes sense - especially the shotgun comparison and how much of your body is exposed in the various cover situations. The velocity difference between the pistol and his PCC were very enlightening as well. I have a Rossi .357 mag lever-action rifle and love how Paul took out his Rossi coach gun. So many guys smash Rossi as a whole, which I get because of their lack “Henry-level” finishes and reliability etc. Was just nice to see Paul Harrell owning and relying on a Rossi shotgun.
Two of my leverguns are Rossis, two are "80s Brownings and one is a Winchester. The Browings are absolutely "up to" the Winchester and the Rossis are not that far below. One Rossi is recent and the other is a bit older, not the Puma era but not the current bolt-safety type. The older Rossi is noticeably nicer and smoother than the newer one; the newer one I had to order the Steve's Gunz video and some of his parts, including his peep aperture that replaces the stupid bolt safety, and since I "gave it the treatment" it's become very useable, smooth and dependable. I recommend the Steve's treatment to anyone with a newer Rossi levergun.
I have never seen someone shoot a shockwave that proficiently. Very impressive. I hope people don't think they can get that good with one or two boxes of ammo.
I have a High Standard K1201 Riot model that has a full 18.5" barrel and 6 shot mag and the same birdshead style grip. It's just 4.5" longer than a shockwave, but with LOTS of practice over the years I've owned it, I can shoot MAYBE 80% as good a Paul, when hip firing. Firing from the eye line as he demonstrates I'm about the same. But it's taken 16 years and hundreds of boxes of shells to get that good. And some days it's like I'm starting all over again, only hitting 30-50% of the time.
I literally had to explain to a guy that a Shockwave is nowhere near as effective as a stocked shotgun in most situations primarily because it's so difficult to use in comparison. Anyone can use a stocked shotgun with minimal training in comparison to shooting a pistol grip or Shockwave shotgun in the same circumstances. Guy then argued it's better for CQB because of its size and lack of stock. I called him out on that crap by asking if he's ever trained in actual CQB tactics. Silence.

@@frugalsoul9984 I fired a 20 gauge version last year on a very hot day. With the sweat dripping off of me, I had a very difficult time reloading the 3in rounds. There is almost zero clearance for the rounds to go in the magazine. The weapon was new. I found it to be an MF to reload in a hurry. Decided it is a use it first and drop it weapon, draw a pistol. Most likely never need the 5 shots in the shotgun and would use it first.

My favorite "briefcase gun" is my Sub-2000 Gen2 in 9mm. The thing folds up so small it actually fits in a normal briefcase. That is the rifle I travel with all the time.

Submarine races true story. My girlfriend (now my wife) were parked overlooking San Francisco Bay when what do we see but two submarines going through the Golden Gate, we laughed nobody’s going to believe us that we were actually at a submarine race.
Justin Martin it wasn’t to uncommon to see them in SF Bay either coming from or going to Mare Island submarine repair facility, but never two a breast of each other.

A "briefcase gun" is carried in addition to your concealed carry gun. Nobody thinks they're going to pull out a rifle before something goes down. Did you watch the video? This was covered early and often.
You can always get your gun out before you need it it's cold getting just getting your gun out. Now getting a gun out when you need it that is something completely different.

I inherited one of the first no handle Mossbergs. I ordered a folding stock for it. Yes, it is my hotel gun, fits in my bag nicely, but I'm not traveling these days. At home, it is my bedside gun. The stock holds 5 extra rounds. Your idea of an AR is spot on.
Kel Tec has some interesting offerings for a stowable weapon. The Sub 2k, and su16 being a few. They tend to have a hit and miss reputation for reliability though. It would be neat to see Paul evaluate some of those at some point. I've had a gen 1 Sub 2k in Glock 9mm since it first came out. Mine can be picky with some ammunition, and I once had an aftermarket 9mm/.40 cal extended magazine that caused constant malfunctions. But if I cleaned it even semi regularly, and used an actual glock magazine, and decent enough ammo, it's been "mostly" reliable. I don't understand when people claim to have a weapon that "has never" jammed. The only firearms I've ever used that never had any malfunctions on me were a break open shotgun and a cap and ball muzzle loader. Everything else from Glocks to Browning HP's, Beretta shotguns and pistols, Walther pistols, and of course Kel Tecs, ect, have had "some" kind of malfunction. And I don't even shoot that much. Ever since I was a kid, I just thought that dealing with occasional malfunctions of various sorts was just part of using firearms. I've only ever seen two that were serious enough to not be remedied by running the action a few times, and both were Glocks. One was a .40 cal police service gun. The entire back end of the fired case was torn off leaving just the tube in the chamber, and then another round fed up into that and became totally jammed before going fully into battery. I'm guessing that was more a fault of the ammo though. They were reloads that felt pretty stout. I don't know how common it is for people to reload .40, or if it's something the police do for training, but we were given them by a guy at the range at the police academy. I was only like 9 at the time, so I don't remember all the details, I was just enthused about being at the police academy. The other big malfuntion was when my Dad and I were at a range with another officer friend, and the friend was shooting his Glock, and then started looking down at the ground, searching for something. When my Dad inquired as to what his friend was doing, he replied that his front sight flew off and skipped off his nose. After a few minutes of scavenging across the gravel we managed to find it. Aside from those, I've personally only seen the typical failures to feed from the magazine or failures to fully eject. I've only seen a handful of dud rounds, most of which being .22lr, unsurprisingly.
Excellent presentation. This makes great sense. I know many folks who carry backup weapons.... usually an ankle holster. In Montana, a briefcase gun does NOT constitute conceal carry. Thank you, Paul.

If one keeps the general type suggested rather than a particular model, then it can be applied to what is available in one's particular area. Hi, I'm a LT in the What If Brigade. I'll have to add that the people that have backpack guns are often the people prepared for combat in specific situations other than just going about a normal day with a concealed carry. I used to deliver pizzas and when I started that job, a more seasoned co worker informed me that it's against store policy to to carry a gun inside, so instead of just concealing his pistol really well, he put it in a backpack in his passenger seat and made sure it was unzipped when he went to more colorful parts of town where delivery boys had been robbed before. When he got out of the car to do the delivery, he slung the backpack on his shoulder like in a 90's college movie and was still able to quickly get the gun. I'd just like to say *what if* real quick here.
I worked for a delivery company and they said we werent allowed to carry. I didnt care and carried anyways because I dont compromise my life to make some fat CEO rich. Cant get fired if youre dead. Cant get a new job if youre dead.

Unfortunately I had left mine out in the rain to get cleaned after a day of shooting and went inside for a cold beverage. When I came back outside, they were gone. Don't know what happened to them. All I know is I don't have them any longer. I swear.
I love my Extar EP9 I got the nice little carry case with it I’ve walked it through the lobby of multiple hotels and brought it with me on many camping trips to set next to the bed in the tent. My wife is pretty surgical with it too so it’s easy to use for all the people in my home.
I lived up in the hills of central California for 6 months a few years ago, and one of the things I learned while there is that the deer know when hunting season is. They'll walk around brazenly through neighborhoods right up until the weekend before the season opens. They'll be non-existent for the duration, and then back again the weekend after deer season ends. Clearly, they appear to behave similarly where Mr. Harrell is.

I'm from Michigan. The deer know when season is on too. And they mock you pre and post season. Apparently, by Mr Harrell's example, the most effective method is to desensitize the deer to frequent gun fire.
Havent heard that in years.Grew up at Norteast ocean side of NJ, overlooking Brooklyn in distance and Naval Ammo Depot Earle. Huge dock at the end of which submarines and other Navy vessels were seen from a romantic lookout. I think the expression came from there.
23:33 I took a multi-state road trip of roughly 4,000 miles several years ago. The overnight/motel (“brief case”) gun I used for the trip was a 12ga. coach gun (double barrel, 20” barrels, hammerless). Less capacity than any other firearms I own, but the power is significant and it comes into service quickly while at very short indoor distances it’s accurate enough. Additionally, while I didn’t have the time to research all the local firearms laws of the places I was traveling through, I reasoned that in most places in the USA a shotgun with a barrel 20” or longer is legal. Also, it cannot be considered to have a high capacity magazine, it’s not semi-auto, and it’s not a long range “sniper” weapon. So I assumed that if I had to use it, and I got in legal trouble, my firearm selection would not add extra legal trouble to me. Sound logic? I don’t know. It was the best I could figure at the time.
Back when I carried, one of my options was a fannie pack holster which using Velcro could have the front pulled off for access, used for my primary. While it didn't carry a larger weapon it didn't required a jacket or pulled out shirttail, and could be taken off and tossed in the car trunk or a locker without being obvious. And it would fit either my K frame or SW 9. It was kind of obvious if you knew what it was due to the cord hanging down used to pull the front loose, but I don't remember ever seeing another one. I had a NAA MiniMag for a backup, useful as a belly gun or making noise, but is sure was easy to conceal.
In regards to the shockwave Tac13/14 type shotguns: technique/practice is important. Not sure if it’s been covered in another video, but if you use your support hand to “push” the gun while you use your firing hand to “pull” the tension will provide a more stable aim and you’ll never hit yourself in the face. You should feel like you’re trying to stretch the gun apart. Feels weird at first, but is a game-changer for those style of not shotgun shotguns.
Some people think they're just novelties, the AR and AK pistols of shotguns, but putting in some good practice, they can be shot pretty well for what they are.
Fantastic presentation, as always, but I really loved this one. Nice wildlife in the background too. I use a 10.5" AR pistol in a tennis racket case, with a tube of tennis balls and old sneakers on the back seat next to it for props, just so it doesn't scream "RIFLE" if anybody is looking through car windows in the parking lot. Doesn't have to be separated with the upper and lower, and fits a 20 rd magazine in the gun while in the case, with a couple 30 round mags in the side zipper pouch. Also impressed how well you shot the shockwave from the hip, that is in fact very difficult and is borderline trick shooting -definitely agreed that nobody should rely on shooting one like that as their default method. Great presentation as usual. I loved the "stage fright" comment at the end ha.

Yes it’s hard to beat the AR platform! The coach gun is a great option as are some of the folding stock carbines. For my larger hiking backpack, I have a 92 replica 45 long colt that is just about a perfect backcountry choice.

Semper fi Paul. I love your dry humor as well as your expertise. My briefcase/ backpack gun is my KelTec sub2000 with the glock G19 compatible mags of my carry gun. You are right about not having time to assemble it if the balloon goes up, though. You would need to resist the temptation to try to assemble it in the middle of a firefight, which probably would get you killed. Particularly if you try to install the red dot sight on top. But at least you have the immediate advantage of extra loaded hi-cap mags for your G19. It does offer the advantage of another weapon for someone else to use in an emergency. Trained in it's deployment, of course.The threats are morphing as we speak, with the return of terrorism to our shores thanks to the ineptitude of this President.

For years when visiting my mom who lived in the D/FW area, I took a coach gun length double broken in two in my overnight bag. I was sacrificing capacity, but I figured that if 2 people watched their accomplices get their heads turned to pudding and still came through the door, they would have to be extremely committed to doing us harm!
It is a far more efficient platform sitting next to a box or bag of shells than most give it credit for.
You can be sure there's no shortage of thugs in the government and military committed to killing you, me and everyone else they deem as "deplorables."

For those interested, the pistol with the Winchester white box, 115 grain FMJ yielded about 349 ft-lb of energy and the carbine gave about 488. That's a big difference.

I usually put heavier 145gr jhp in my 32rd mags for my P.C.C. and use 115gr jhp for my glock. The pistol carbine power is pretty close to 357 magnum loads.

I found myself in need of a personal defense weapon after receiving a death threat from a member of organized crime. I ended up with an AR pistol for a few reasons. One of the biggest reason is it qualifies as a handgun and I can carry it loaded and concealed. A concealed loaded rifle is not an option in my area. Other reasons are the fact that I have ammo for an AR, I already know how to operate an AR and it was available.
A year ago, my cousin told me he got an AR pistol. "Why would you do that?" ignorant me asked. "More blast, more noise, less ballistics, less range, same price as a rifle? No thanks." "You can legally keep a pistol loaded in your car with your CHL." I now have two. As you said, caliber redundancy, mag redundancy, optic-ready, ~2700fps out of a 10.5" barrel, muscle memory/ergos/manual of arms transfer, and my understanding is you could swap a longer upper onto the "pistol" and essentially carry a rifle loaded. 👍
@@OutsideTheTargetDemographic - With a 10.5” barrel your AR is probably a bit over 26”, which makes it a firearm rather than a pistol. May want to double check your local laws.
Personally I think 10.5” AR is the perfect home defense tool. Plenty of power and range for indoor use and good maneuverability indoors. Particularly good tool for elderly, small stature or infirm individuals.

I put a "cup" (not a "can") blast diverter on mine, which blows all the blast, sound, flame, ect towards the target, taking a lot of the bite out of the short barrel. They are like $20-30/ea on eBay. I'll probably put them on all my ARs. Worth looking in to.

A minor quibble. When I am in the tall and uncut I carry a “bear gun” loaded for the local bear population. For a survival addition I would have a small game carbine so I don’t make sauce out of rabbits. .22 like the Henry AR-7 survival rifle would be a good fit.

I learn so much in a short amount of time from him and he just makes sense - especially the shotgun comparison and how much of your body is exposed in the various cover situations. The velocity difference between the pistol and his PCC were very enlightening as well. I have a Rossi .357 mag lever-action rifle and love how Paul took out his Rossi coach gun. So many guys smash Rossi as a whole, which I get because of their lack “Henry-level” finishes and reliability etc. Was just nice to see Paul Harrell owning and relying on a Rossi shotgun.
Two of my leverguns are Rossis, two are "80s Brownings and one is a Winchester. The Browings are absolutely "up to" the Winchester and the Rossis are not that far below. One Rossi is recent and the other is a bit older, not the Puma era but not the current bolt-safety type. The older Rossi is noticeably nicer and smoother than the newer one; the newer one I had to order the Steve's Gunz video and some of his parts, including his peep aperture that replaces the stupid bolt safety, and since I "gave it the treatment" it's become very useable, smooth and dependable. I recommend the Steve's treatment to anyone with a newer Rossi levergun.

I have never seen someone shoot a shockwave that proficiently. Very impressive. I hope people don't think they can get that good with one or two boxes of ammo.
I don't think you can get that good with one or two *pallets* of ammo.
I have a High Standard K1201 Riot model that has a full 18.5" barrel and 6 shot mag and the same birdshead style grip. It's just 4.5" longer than a shockwave, but with LOTS of practice over the years I've owned it, I can shoot MAYBE 80% as good a Paul, when hip firing. Firing from the eye line as he demonstrates I'm about the same. But it's taken 16 years and hundreds of boxes of shells to get that good. And some days it's like I'm starting all over again, only hitting 30-50% of the time.
I literally had to explain to a guy that a Shockwave is nowhere near as effective as a stocked shotgun in most situations primarily because it's so difficult to use in comparison. Anyone can use a stocked shotgun with minimal training in comparison to shooting a pistol grip or Shockwave shotgun in the same circumstances. Guy then argued it's better for CQB because of its size and lack of stock. I called him out on that crap by asking if he's ever trained in actual CQB tactics. Silence.
@@burnyburnoutze2nd I can always tuck a stock under my arm to shorten a regular shotgun if I need to. I can't magically add a stock to a shockwave on command. Of course it still looks like a fun gun to me.

With the sweat dripping off of me, I had a very difficult time reloading the 3in rounds.
There is almost zero clearance for the rounds to go in the magazine.
The weapon was new.
I found it to be an MF to reload in a hurry.
Decided it is a use it first and drop it weapon, draw a pistol.
Most likely never need the 5 shots in the shotgun and would use it first.

I inherited one of the first no handle Mossbergs. I ordered a folding stock for it. Yes, it is my hotel gun, fits in my bag nicely, but I'm not traveling these days. At home, it is my bedside gun. The stock holds 5 extra rounds. Your idea of an AR is spot on.

I am saddened to hear of the stage fright development but glad to know you are more adept at operating fishing boats than most recently.
Kel Tec has some interesting offerings for a stowable weapon. The Sub 2k, and su16 being a few. They tend to have a hit and miss reputation for reliability though. It would be neat to see Paul evaluate some of those at some point. I've had a gen 1 Sub 2k in Glock 9mm since it first came out. Mine can be picky with some ammunition, and I once had an aftermarket 9mm/.40 cal extended magazine that caused constant malfunctions. But if I cleaned it even semi regularly, and used an actual glock magazine, and decent enough ammo, it's been "mostly" reliable. I don't understand when people claim to have a weapon that "has never" jammed. The only firearms I've ever used that never had any malfunctions on me were a break open shotgun and a cap and ball muzzle loader. Everything else from Glocks to Browning HP's, Beretta shotguns and pistols, Walther pistols, and of course Kel Tecs, ect, have had "some" kind of malfunction. And I don't even shoot that much. Ever since I was a kid, I just thought that dealing with occasional malfunctions of various sorts was just part of using firearms. I've only ever seen two that were serious enough to not be remedied by running the action a few times, and both were Glocks. One was a .40 cal police service gun. The entire back end of the fired case was torn off leaving just the tube in the chamber, and then another round fed up into that and became totally jammed before going fully into battery. I'm guessing that was more a fault of the ammo though. They were reloads that felt pretty stout. I don't know how common it is for people to reload .40, or if it's something the police do for training, but we were given them by a guy at the range at the police academy. I was only like 9 at the time, so I don't remember all the details, I was just enthused about being at the police academy. The other big malfuntion was when my Dad and I were at a range with another officer friend, and the friend was shooting his Glock, and then started looking down at the ground, searching for something. When my Dad inquired as to what his friend was doing, he replied that his front sight flew off and skipped off his nose. After a few minutes of scavenging across the gravel we managed to find it. Aside from those, I've personally only seen the typical failures to feed from the magazine or failures to fully eject. I've only seen a handful of dud rounds, most of which being .22lr, unsurprisingly.
Excellent presentation. This makes great sense. I know many folks who carry backup weapons.... usually an ankle holster. In Montana, a briefcase gun does NOT constitute conceal carry. Thank you, Paul.

If one keeps the general type suggested rather than a particular model, then it can be applied to what is available in one's particular area. Hi, I'm a LT in the What If Brigade. I'll have to add that the people that have backpack guns are often the people prepared for combat in specific situations other than just going about a normal day with a concealed carry. I used to deliver pizzas and when I started that job, a more seasoned co worker informed me that it's against store policy to to carry a gun inside, so instead of just concealing his pistol really well, he put it in a backpack in his passenger seat and made sure it was unzipped when he went to more colorful parts of town where delivery boys had been robbed before. When he got out of the car to do the delivery, he slung the backpack on his shoulder like in a 90's college movie and was still able to quickly get the gun. I'd just like to say *what if* real quick here.

I love my Extar EP9 I got the nice little carry case with it I’ve walked it through the lobby of multiple hotels and brought it with me on many camping trips to set next to the bed in the tent. My wife is pretty surgical with it too so it’s easy to use for all the people in my home.
I lived up in the hills of central California for 6 months a few years ago, and one of the things I learned while there is that the deer know when hunting season is. They'll walk around brazenly through neighborhoods right up until the weekend before the season opens. They'll be non-existent for the duration, and then back again the weekend after deer season ends. Clearly, they appear to behave similarly where Mr. Harrell is.
In Iowa they move into the residential neighborhoods during hunting season. There have been more deer than dogs here for 30 years.

I took a multi-state road trip of roughly 4,000 miles several years ago. The overnight/motel (“brief case”) gun I used for the trip was a 12ga. coach gun (double barrel, 20” barrels, hammerless). Less capacity than any other firearms I own, but the power is significant and it comes into service quickly while at very short indoor distances it’s accurate enough. Additionally, while I didn’t have the time to research all the local firearms laws of the places I was traveling through, I reasoned that in most places in the USA a shotgun with a barrel 20” or longer is legal. Also, it cannot be considered to have a high capacity magazine, it’s not semi-auto, and it’s not a long range “sniper” weapon. So I assumed that if I had to use it, and I got in legal trouble, my firearm selection would not add extra legal trouble to me. Sound logic? I don’t know. It was the best I could figure at the time.

Back when I carried, one of my options was a fannie pack holster which using Velcro could have the front pulled off for access, used for my primary. While it didn't carry a larger weapon it didn't required a jacket or pulled out shirttail, and could be taken off and tossed in the car trunk or a locker without being obvious. And it would fit either my K frame or SW 9. It was kind of obvious if you knew what it was due to the cord hanging down used to pull the front loose, but I don't remember ever seeing another one.
I had a NAA MiniMag for a backup, useful as a belly gun or making noise, but is sure was easy to conceal.

In regards to the shockwave Tac13/14 type shotguns: technique/practice is important. Not sure if it’s been covered in another video, but if you use your support hand to “push” the gun while you use your firing hand to “pull” the tension will provide a more stable aim and you’ll never hit yourself in the face. You should feel like you’re trying to stretch the gun apart. Feels weird at first, but is a game-changer for those style of not shotgun shotguns.
Some people think they're just novelties, the AR and AK pistols of shotguns, but putting in some good practice, they can be shot pretty well for what they are.

I use a 10.5" AR pistol in a tennis racket case, with a tube of tennis balls and old sneakers on the back seat next to it for props, just so it doesn't scream "RIFLE" if anybody is looking through car windows in the parking lot. Doesn't have to be separated with the upper and lower, and fits a 20 rd magazine in the gun while in the case, with a couple 30 round mags in the side zipper pouch.
Also impressed how well you shot the shockwave from the hip, that is in fact very difficult and is borderline trick shooting -definitely agreed that nobody should rely on shooting one like that as their default method.

Yes it’s hard to beat the AR platform! The coach gun is a great option as are some of the folding stock carbines. For my larger hiking backpack, I have a 92 replica 45 long colt that is just about a perfect backcountry choice.
That was seriously impressive shooting from the hip Paul. I was expecting maybe 60% at most. That was fast and very accurate. I'm on your team pal.

Semper fi Paul. I love your dry humor as well as your expertise. My briefcase/ backpack gun is my KelTec sub2000 with the glock G19 compatible mags of my carry gun. You are right about not having time to assemble it if the balloon goes up, though. You would need to resist the temptation to try to assemble it in the middle of a firefight, which probably would get you killed. Particularly if you try to install the red dot sight on top. But at least you have the immediate advantage of extra loaded hi-cap mags for your G19. It does offer the advantage of another weapon for someone else to use in an emergency. Trained in it's deployment, of course.The threats are morphing as we speak, with the return of terrorism to our shores thanks to the ineptitude of this President.
