I did the same. jM 146. Halcyon 250. Army surplus back pack for side bags.30$.doing off highway in northern cal. Prefer canvas over leather would enjoy Riding with someone such as yourself..
Nice video! Beautiful motorcycle! I want to do this event now! I have a V Star250. I’m just learning to ride. I’m a former ultra-distance bicyclist with congestive heart failure, therefore I now have a motorcycle. I road the V Star250, 398 miles in the last two days. What great fun it is. In my experience, you will find it easier to acquire more speed through improvements in aerodynamics than any other way. Look at the bicycles of “self supported long distance bicycle racers” for an idea of what I’m talking about. Essentially, the side or saddle bags need to go. Everything that won’t fit into the bags that sit along the centerline of the motorcycle, you don’t need. I used to always remind new ultra-distance bicycle riders, “we are not leaving civilization, so don’t carry anything you can purchase along the route!”
Great info w/lots of data points. Thanks. Your fuel mileage appears to be 80-85% of my unburdened Halcyon. I look forward to your findings with the 43-tooth sprocket. I'm guessing you'll see around 6,800 RPM @ 60MPH; it'd be nice to find the sweet spot on the 229's torque curve (it would be nice to find the graph). Anyway, keep those videos coming.
I don't think you need to worry too much about increased drag from a screen. The wind will hit YOU if it doesn't hit a screen, and you're less aerodynamic. (Even if you're round, like I am.)
Awesome info!!!! Cant wait to get mine. Just a quick question: where did you get those awesome storage metal casings in the back? My bike will be exactly the same color ( I think its called Olive Draft? ) and would love to fins and put those on. Thanks for the info in advance!!!
Is it normal to have oil weep from the seals as you mentioned? If so, is it just when the bike is new or is that something to expect for the life of the bike? BTW, I appreciate the amount of thought that must have gone into planning your design!
@@timmasterson7540 I really like the white lettering you had painted on the ammo can. However, I like the green “saddle bag” on the left side more so than the ammo can as a side bag. It gives your bike a ‘military theme’ to it. You should find yourself a smaller ammo can and shove it into your DIY bracket of the green saddle bag. And have it open from the side (rear) of the ammo can. Know what I’m saying here?
paint over the Janus and stripe oh and the 250 Griffin. de identify. bigger and more aggressive tires. and symmetrical rear bags ,loose the box. loose the reflective tape. little more camo. awesome bike .oh and better mirrors .. to hell with fuel economy, burn a quart of oil .
larger windscreen more drag? yea probably buy less on body gets a gain back. even with drag rider not getting bugs, wind, cold worth it. 1k miles 1/2 qt oil? not jumping for joy on that one.
I was fool enough to spend over 10K on the Janus 250. Worst purchase decision I've ever made. Frankly, Janus bikes are pure garbage. The selling point is the attractive, vintage look and the company's small town, made-in-America, persona. It's all phony. These videos are made by Janus employees or paid hacks. The bike can barely top 40mph. Dangerously slow. The gas tank holds less than 2 gallons. The lack of rear suspension makes the ride a torture. Nothing but repair after repair. I've bought a Royal Enfield 350 and It's a welcome pleasure. All I can do is park the Janus in my garage and let it rot. It's too much of a pain to try to sell it. And, I don't want to pass this crap on to some unsuspecting buyer. Don't even think of buying anything from Janus. Take my advice. I learned it the hard way.

That bike looks like it's ready for the apocalypse. I like it.
JM 146 working on alternative fuel 😊
That is sweet! Thinking about getting the Janus 450. love your setup on that. Thank you for sharing this.

Love your setup. A Gryffin with the 450 cc used on their other bike would be perfect.
I love your setup💚💚
Best looking Janus I’ve seen by far!
I'm usually a supersport guy but i really want their new Halycron 450, such a sharp retro bike
I want the Gryffin in a 450 :)
I agree.

But you can tuck-in, windshield can’t.
Amazing looking rig. Ready for Anything!
Awesome looking rig,
Thanks Tim for the great vid, i especially liked the gear bag cover for your RotoPax spare fuel! I am going to rob and duplicate that for my bike!
:{)
Great video !
When I get out of the Army I'm definitely going to get one of these. My family might make fun of me because there harley riders lol.
Love the ammo can set up love to do that to my halcyon

This looks awesome, gives me some ideas for mine
My Gryffin #71 should be ready very soon. If I may ask? where did you locate the 43 tooth sprocket?
Oh,, and very nice set up,,
Looks amazing
Sir, you are hardcore! I dig it!
I don’t know if you still have it, but that was a cool looking little bike. BTW, 1000 miles on a CG230, you’re a tough son of a gun.
Good video
I'd love to know where your olive green bags came from, I would definitely buy those.
Nice set up. Where did you get the pack that you are using for your saddle bag?
What's te bead thing on your seat? Love the janus btw, looking at a halcyon 250 myself.
Sweet bike!!! Love the mods
Nicely moved bike, I love the Janus! Where do you get your luggage from?
1/2 quart of oil in 1,000 miles. that seems like something to worry about.
Is it normal to have oil weep from the seals as you mentioned? If so, is it just when the bike is new or is that something to expect for the life of the bike? BTW, I appreciate the amount of thought that must have gone into planning your design!
Don't know about the oil weeping. But, not concerned as it does not appear to impact the oil consumption.
I'm 6'3" and 280lbs :( How would this bike fit, and what do you think would be a comfortable highend cruising speed?
Awesome set up you have there! Does this have electronic ignition?
Looks like a good shtf bike!
Thank you! The Janus has CDI ingition which is reliable and zero maintenance.

1000 miles on that thing? Why? You are tougher than me.
So what oil is best for a zero-psi engine?

Are all the bags miscellaneous or optional?

Would like to get your email so I could ask you some more info on your build
Did you have any reservations about taking your bike on the highway? Did it have enough power?
Think about it, it's only 250.
IBR21?
Hopefully...Hopeless Class.
You did the impossible and made the Janus look cool. I love your build- well done.
Hey, Janus motorcycles ARE cool!!

A 12 thousand dollar 250..lmao
if you have to wouldnt a CRF 250 or similar be better in every way ?
It's a lot of dough.
But $13.500 is just too much money for a single cylinder 450 motorcycle that will lose 30% of its value the day you buy it!
