What is brand architecture?

I am glad I was thinking on these lines. By using the original brand name and design and just putting the sub brand under the original . I thought it would help with recognition and being consistent. Cheers.

So the likes of adidas and nike are like monolothic brands in themselves since they produce clothes, shoes, watches etc all under the same house brand ?
