    As a current LS460 owner, I'd recommend staying away from the LS600 for 3 big reasons. 1) It has a CVT transmission (3x as many moving parts, unreliable, 3x the cost to rebuild vs automatic). The 8 speed automatic Aisin Warner in the LS460 is superior IMO. 2) Hybrid battery costs $5000 to replace. 3) The hybrid AWD model requires you to pull the engine to change out the 02 sensors (literally zero room to get them out any other way). LS460 is VASTLY less expensive to maintain!

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      This is all very true and I agree but I just meant from a performance stand point the LS 600 is AMAZING huge achievement by Lexus but I still recommend a warranty with either a 600 or a 460

      I'm glad you mentioned these, b/c I have thought occasionally about picking up one. Just the backseat function alone is tempting for long trips, but thanks for the heads up. Not worth it.

      @@borntodeal 127k. Outside of normal wear and tear / maintenance the LS460 is hard on Control Arms. Orginal Brake Actuator's have a tendency to fail, but factory new ones have been revised and I've not seen people complain about them going bad. The Mark Levingson headunit sound system has a mechanical hard drive that when it goes bad, is VERY overpriced new from Lexus ($1100 for a $30 hdd). Sound Amp if it starts clipping or goes out can be repaired aftermarket for about $300. A few nagging problems but overall a very sound car when properly maintained. As for my personal LS460, I've replaced all 8 control arms, front and rear struts, radiator, water pump, spark plugs, all fluids, front and rear brakes, and 02 sensors. Most of this was routine maintenance. I do not regret at all my decision to buy a LS460 (aside from RWD being less than practical for frigid Minnesota winters).

    As soon as I got mine the damn brake actuator went out. Was able to find a brand new OEM actuator from Lexus of Orland in Illinois for less than a thousand and a local mechanic to put it in for like 200 bucks. Apparently the labor isn't as bad as lexus says. No calibration or anything. You just need a techstream to drain the brake fluid. Also upgraded the brakes themselves. I heard someone say that the actuator failures can be attributed to the OEM rotors warping over time. Other than that, the car is amazing and a joy to drive.

    I bought my '12 LS 460 last Sunday, and mine is one owner, all original, but it has 19s. Maybe they increased the size for the last year of that generation. It rides like a dream, coming from an IS250 that was rear-ended and totaled. I thought I'd miss having a sports sedan and driving like I stole it, but so far I only miss the thought of the IS, when I'm in the LS, I drive like the mature middle-aged man that I am. It's weird how the car instantly changed the way I drive, the way I want to drive. I have not once even felt tempted to experience the full might of the 380 hp, 367 lbs-ft that the powerplant has to offer.

  • @texlad04
    @texlad04 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The brake actuator is not known to be super common fault. I did have a control arm failure and even the dealer cost was not that bad (although it was covered by warranty). The shock to me was a coolant leak in the valley. Still, the repair was under 2000. For a high end luxury car that’s not bad. And the regular maintenance is just not bad compared to the Germans. Compare these to a 7 series after 5 years and you will see a huge difference.

    trade-off: on center deadness means reduced tire wear due to alignment sensitivity. when you firm up the steering, you'll need alignments and tires more often. either turn the wheel a little more or spend more on maintenence.

  • @GG99MW2
    @GG99MW2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The steering is due to the difference in the steering box between the 2 cars . The 600hl has the VGRS . While your base model had a normal EPS.
    Variable Gear-Ratio Steering
    (VGRS) automatically adjusts the front-wheel steering angle and response. At low speeds, VGRS reduces the number of turns, lock to lock, for easier maneuvering. At high speeds, the steering gear ratio is optimized for increased high-speed responsiveness and control.
    VGRS comes together when you option the LS with air suspension only .
    So they where available for all 4th gen LS.

      @@gergelyturcsanyi6743 The brake light (parking brake light) would stay on after I start the car. Then blink occasionally. My battery had died while I was doing some body work so I didn't start the car for like a week. Next time I fired it up the brake pedal would either be really hard or would go all the way to the floor with little to no actual braking, which was really strange bc I have 4 pot brembos at the front. So it has 6 pipes that lead into/out of it (the actuator). 1 of them wasn't getting any brake fluid through it. So the rear driver side wheel had no brakes, and this was the case with any wheel we interchanged that pipe lead to. Then the EBD warning came on (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution). Took me about a month to source one.

    I picked up an 07 Base with 97K at the end of October last year. So base model that it only has the ML and Comfort package, but an incredible service history at Lexus every 5k miles without fail. Brake actuator was replaced right before I bought it. The starter, water pump, and a couple of the control arms within the last few years as well along with many other small things. I just checked the vin of every car I looked at and waited about 6 months for the right one, completely comfortable forgoing a warranty. I work on my own vehicles but it’s still a nice piece of mind to not have to think about the actuator. 15k miles in and I couldn’t be happier with it, except that it could be quicker which is exactly what I’m working on now.

      Yea a Toyota or Lexus won't leave you stranded on the side of the road by any means but they will need to have parts replaced eventually and Maintenance of course. I think that $2,000 warranty would have been perfect and I would have been able to keep the car for longer then I did.

      @@MeynMotorGroup The one time I tried to use a warranty that I paid 2000 dollars for, the woman on the phone was very rude and said that the rear hatch struts wouldn't be covered. I looked up the warranty and it covered parts of things. Since it was a dealer warranty, my perception after reading the details of the warranty was I would get charged by the dealer approx. what a private mechanic would charge, despite the salesperson pretending it would be similar to the factory warranty (the loan officer sells the warranty). I suggest you save your warranty money in the bank, maintain your car, and use the warranty savings. You will be far ahead after a lifetime of car buying. I have heard previously that 1/2 the cost of the precertified warranty goes directly to the salesperson.

    I like your reviews bud! I just bought a 2007 LS 460L silver just like the one you had with 215k miles for $6900 and the car is beautiful and well taken care of with a dealer maintenance record all the way up to 180k miles however I'm afraid the brake actuator needs to be replace since I'm getting random brake warnings on my dash from time to time. I found the actuator at the dealer for $1300 and I have a shop who can do it relatively cheap and that's the only thing wrong with this car. I have fallen in love with how it drives and how well made those cars are for a 2007 it drives and has better technology than most new cars on the market today. My question to you is thinking back would you have replaced the actuator knowing that you would've have a very reliable car after that? for what I pay for I factor in some money to fix minor issues I just didn't think it was gonna be something so expensive.

      Good Morning the Actuator is the Break Control Module when it Goes Bad the Breaks will still Work but ABS system among other Break Functions will not work as designed, it's one of the Most Expensive Non Major Parts you will ever replace but Overall it is a GREAT CAR with a strong History of Reliability behind it, I Own 5 Lexus Vehicles I believe they are the way to Good if you want a Great Reliable car at a reasonable price. If well taken care of it will last well Past 300,000 miles..

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the first thing you have to learn is how to buy vehicles properly. This is the situation most people find themselves in the U.S. in particular, a very high payment on a below average vehicle.
      I would suggest doing research at the leasehackr forums and watch my latest buyer's guide videos on various cars.
      People literally drive 6 figure foreign cars for 760 a month some even get paid to drive cars by lease hacking certain pickup trucks like Tacomas.
      Again, check out the leasehackr forum before making your next car purchase. It's very sad to see this with so many people.

      Get in the car put into drive and just tap the accelerator to move forward a bit and then quickly get on the brakes. If the car wobbles a lot after coming to a full stop then the control arms are most likely shot

    The actuator isn’t that expensive if you know how to replace it yourself.

    • @Overqualified1
      @Overqualified1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Exactly. And if you do you due diligence, you can find a brand new replacement actuator assembly for less than a thousand dollars like I did. They range from around 900 to 1200 bucks. Ordered my replacement actuator assembly from Lexus of Orland in Illinois. It was shipped to me in less than a week. Also found a certified mechanic to change out the part for like 300 bucks. I don't understand people who are so quick to run to the dealer when mechanical issues arise. The costs are always going to be inflated. If people put forth the effort and do their research, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to maintain this car. From the Mark Levinson amp, to the control arms. There's cheaper solutions that don't involve compromising on quality.

      The tricky part is finding a mechanic that has the Lexus subscription to be able to program the actuator to your specific vehicle. Lexus charges about $4000 per year for that subscription which is why not a lot of local shops have it and people end up being forced to go pay that ridiculous bill to a dealer to fix it

      @@thehealthagent A shame you you haven't elaborated on how it's a better motor. Check the forums and so many 460 owners have gone back to the 430 as it is supposed to be much more reliable, better built and quieter. They're both great cars and I'm looking at buying a 460 simply because it's newer and looks much sharper.

      I meant dynamically it can't be disputed that objectively the AWD system distributes power in a superior manner leading to more predictable higher quality handling experience especially for a car that doesn't have a good chassis to begin with. Besides the primary message of this video is to GET A WARRANTY so you can be covered if you're worried about maintenance you probably wouldn't be in the market for an LS anyway.
