Kirk took the time to respond to an email a few years back and we had a very friendly correspondence. Despite his antics on the platform, Kirk was always a real one. A man’s man who won multiple national and world titles, all while working a manual labor 9-5 job. As a laborer myself, I took many lessons from Kirk’s style of training. Great work on this excellent video. Long live Captain Kirk!
The old Maryland Athletic Club is one of the gyms in the footage. I used to workout there and would always see Kirk in there lifting. Didn’t look like he was taking anything then. Just looked like a strong power lifter. That was my favorite gym of all time. Always good people in there, alternative music playing (WHFS). Just a lot of good memories. I was sad when they closed.
🌟🔥💪😁👍Легенда! У меня дома в спорт зале на стене до сих пор весил статья с ним и его фотографиями из журнала. Он меня мотивировал в 90 е на занятия пауэрлифтингом! Привет из России
Way back in the 90s I was in a meet with Kirk. He was training for the Nationals and his coach said, if u do the meet you don’t have to train that week. Did a 925 squat in a single ply suit. It was remarkable. Nicest and friendliest guy in a world. What a power house.
Is that a Squat suit he's wearing or just a onesie? ( I don't know the official name of it). If it's a Squat suit how much (around) does it let you lift more? I know wraps help but maybe 50 pounds or less.
@@fly1ngpapayaI’m not a fan of it either, but in those times it didn’t support anywhere near where it does now. It’s kinda fun to me that raw lifting is a fairly new thing, you’d think it’d be the other way around.
When your body disappears into your muscle you might be fucked.. but you gotta give it to em’ dude was stronger than anybody else around. Hope he still had kids and a normal life after powerlifting and all that juice
Insanely good squat ! 👍 And great physice. For all the haters il remind you Ray Williams got popped twice. Lasha also got popped. Needless to say dont hold your "tested" athletes on a pedestal.
Lmao watching these mfs drink back then on so much gear is funny as hell. I cant drink at all i lose my appetite for days and blood pressure goes thru the roof. They where cut different back then.
Powerlifting World champion Jerry Jones told me in 1982, 'Never take training advice from steroid users, the only thing they know for sure is that the drugs work."
Doing deadlifts and slamming it on the floor is a no no, you're just using the momentum, we called it drop the weights slowly like there's eggs underneath those weights, that's weightlifting 101

Joe Rogan and Pavel Tsatsouline were talking about this dude and watching him on video, a few years ago. Both were very impressed!

Esos powerlifter si que están fuertes de verdad, ni están panzones ni delgaduchos, están fuertes y estéticos
The only thing missing from this video is when he talks about his squat rack on 5 o clock on a Monday! Would love that clip uploaded!

lol thats a really dumb quote. look at the current record holders in any class...for any strength sport and get back to me
Didn't this guy have gender reassignment later on?
