    Leah, you are helping me feel confident about my math abilities! I didn't realize how many of these rules I already seem to know and how I have already solved problems like these before in my pre-med classes. That tells me I am just psyching myself on PS practice, and that I don't have any reason to. You make it seem like this type of problem solving is actually much easier than what I've had to do for classes, because it is! Thank you so much!

    Honestly...these videos will help not just for MCAT but also for NEET which is similar to MCAT but its an entrance exam for students who are planning to go into Med school in India (which I am planning to do). As an American teenager, we are so used to using calculators like TI-84 and what not. I wish our teachers taught this in our school and practised with it. Thank you so much Leah!!!!!!! you are literally the BEST!

    I wish I had found this earlier. I'm taking the MCAT tomorrow and feel okay, but the way you present all this material is brilliant. It really attenuates the terror that the MCAT's complexity tries to induce. Thank you so much I'll definitely be using these principles to weed out traps and clearly incorrect answers!:)

    I was going through your videos for review of basic mathematics principles, and ended up learning a new trick, never really thought about doing the whole 5/5 + 2/5 deal, always kinda just estimated - 7.5/5 = 1.5, so it's a little bit under 1.5 is what I'd do, but your trick's better

      @klcgamemaster 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vareemalik4221 Both have the same common denominator. 5+2 is 7 so you get 5/5 +2/5 is 7/5. 5/5 is equal to 1 so it's 1 + the decimal from 2/5 as your answer.

    Hi Leah!! Thank you for the videos!! I really needed this because math on the MCAT has been a struggle of mine. I have one question, how do you know when the answer is in the correct scientific notation? For instance, on your last division example how did you know that 0.5 x 10 ^3 at 5:29 was not in the correct scientific notation? I was also confused with that for the adding example at 3:19

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Proper scientific notation requires that one significant digit be placed IN FRONT of the decimal point. That's why you see me shifting the decimal point in both of these examples and changing the power accordingly.

    At 3:10 of the video you said you multiplied 10^-4 to get 10^-3 how is that so? How did you come up with 10^-3? I'm still confused can you help explain please?

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Happy to help. I said that 10^-4 times 10 gives us 10^-3. In this particular example, I was trying to convert the answer into proper scientific notation, which required me to move the decimal place back one place to the left. Doing so meant dividing 56 by 10 to get 5.6 while simultaneously multiplying 10^-4 by 10 to get 10^-3. Think of it this way: (10^-4)(10^1) = 10^-3

    Hey Leah I got 1.4 x 10^-5. I saw the fraction 7/5. I knew 1/5 is .2 so I multiplied .2 by 7 to get .14 since I made .14 larger to 1.4 I have to decrease my base to 10^-5. Can you help me see what I got wrong please :(

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your mistake was really small! Multiplying 0.2 by 7 gives us 1.4 (not 0.14). Knowing that, we can keep our base at 10^-4 for a final answer of 1.4 x 10^-4. Happy studying!

  • @Rebi333
    @Rebi333 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you do the trick when you have 3/5? since there is nothing that adds up to 3 that equals 5. In your example you did 7/5=5/5+2/5

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3/5 can be multiplied by 2/2 giving you 6/10 or 0.6
