Thanks do much for producing this excellent video. I kept finding myself considering looking into this topic for ages but kept putting it off, since it wasn't urgent. You made my introduction into Navionics totally effortless. Good job!!!
Thanks! You described the use of the measuring tool for heading but you had it opposite. The red dot is where you’re going and the purple is where you are (or trying to get the heading from). A quick click changes them
Johny, when I made the video the app was free, things have changed. I made the video to show some fellow boaters a great tool. Never got a dime from navionics, but they take my money every year..lol.
BEST video on this app. Thank you. Funny I've had and used this app for years and didn't know It had all those features lol Since I don't have any fancy equipment on my boat what I did was used an old iPad. Downloaded the app , got a waterproof case and mount for it, and mounted it to my dash. Works great too and looks like I have some high tech stuff going on hahaha. But in all honesty this app is a life saver.
Wow, this video is very helpful for new users like me. Thank you captain for sharing. All i need to know now is the settings of this app and i wanted the same like your settings. 🙏

Great video, I have Navionics installed on my Simrad and really like it. I have to say though, this app is awesome and so much easier than using the chart plotter. Thanks for another intuitive video.
Hey Capt.. great review as I am fairly new to water navigation. Pretty fired to download the Navionics app but became a little apprehensive with it's 3/5 review and some of the negative comments regarding recent updates. Would love to hear your up to date thoughts.
Hey Kurt, over time Navionics has changed their policy and now is charging annual fees that can be quite extreme. I still use it but have given up on the premium features due to the cost. I still recommend the base app. Hope that helps.
I realise this was two years ago, but perhaps you can answer this if I had a VHF with AIS can I overlay it onto Navionics or does Navionics have AIS? Thank you for this video. Very useful.
Trying to understand what this app can do for me that my old garmin 54dv can't. I've got a newer 94sv that does all of this as well. Someone please tell me why I 'need' the navionics app!
Great video and more importantly good sound. I’m new to this app and getting a real kick out of it thank you so much for the video. I was curious if you know why when you’re in sonar chart shading as your pinch and zoom the map changes from one layout to another for instants when you’re zoomed in it shows blue and the contour of the bottom and as you widen out it becomes yellow and more like a normal map is there a way to adjust this. I’d love to have it blue with the contour of the bottom no matter if I’m zoomed in or out? Thank you Chris
Great video Captain. If you are zoomed in on a route, does the map move as you're navigating along the route? I have used the app, and as I'm navigating a route I have to move the map manually. I have found this to be distracting. Am I doing something wrong?
Great question Joseph, I honestly don't recall. My next time out I will check that out. I use the Navionics as a back up to my Lowrance Chartplotter these days. I can see where that would be annoying as you describe it.
Yes, but you have to click on the current location arrow in the bottom left corner. If you click on it again it can cycle through various options. I like the option which draws a red line pointing in the direction I want to go.
Hi Captain Leon, I've just installed this app and was shocked that it doesn't offer any kind of anchor alarm. What setup do you have alongside this app as an anchor watch / alarm? Many thanks
Hey Debbi, While I love having this app I also have a Lowrance Chartplotter Fish finder installed on the boat. Perhaps Navionics will add this feature soon. Thanks for watching!
HOW DO I OPEN VIEW AND USE A DOWNLOADED MAP? I only want to see the Area I Saved into the Box to whereever it saved it to. It didn't even tell me or show me nor ask me to Name it.

Capt Leon, I subscribed to the app but cant get it to provide an auto route. It just charts a straight line between two points. I must be missing a setting. Can you comment?
First click "Route", then click "Automatic". Hold your finger to set the first point, then hold it to set a second point and the app will auto-route a course. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Thanks for your great video. I learned a lot. However, I cannot make automatik routes. The route created is a Line crossing land. Sometimes it works all right but I never know when. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks a lot
These app reviews COMPLETELY leave out the fact that you CANNOT see the screen on your phone in the sun...which is about 99% of the time we're on a boat.
Hello ipg, yeah it appears since the making of the video they have made some changes, I didn't think it was $50 per year, heard it was much less. That's not good.
Lol. I wish Steve, that would mean they should pay me, and I would gladly accept it. Nah, never got a dime, just impressed by the app and wanted to share with my fellow boaters.
Leave the strings to the experts. The opening in this video is lame drama at its worst. I appreciate artistry but I’m surprised how often videos are over the top Cheesy by virtue of the producer inserting dramatic music. Yes it’s emblematic of Hollywood but Hollywood has great expertise while amateurs miss the mark on TH-cam on virtually every attempt. ie. This video.
I didn't know I was trying to compete for entry into Sundance. I kind of thought I was helping fellow boaters learn the functionality of a convenient and easily attainable mobile application. In the end, 92K viewers have watched it and the overwhelmingly majority have appreciated my efforts. Whether you appreciate my style or not, you watched the video which has added to my TH-cam viewer revenue, so thank you!
