Plastic lids are great. Never thought about using in the freeze dryer. In regards to extra trays, I purchased the pharma trays from Harvest Right. It is a 7 tray pack and averages a lower price per tray then the 4 pack. Harvest Right did confirm trays are identical just more to a pack.
Great finds, grabbed a couple of them. I'd add in a mason jar vacuum sealer to the list as well. Also, love the tip of using the scale to see if things are still drying.
Very nice video! I only use weight difference to tell me if my food is done. Good to see you comfirm that. I wish I saw this before I spent twice as much on oxygen absorbers through Harvest Right. The Mylar bags scare me though. I've had problems with 4.5 MiL Mylar bags getting holes in them when vacuum sealing chicken pieces with an Avid Armor chamber sealer because of the sharper edges. I'll pay extra for the Harvest Right's 7 MiL bags which I've never had a problem with. Too bad the baggy racks don't extend very far so you can only use it on smaller bags.
@@Milkduds-m8y I agree on the thicker mags being much better! Yeah the oxygen absorbers are cheaper on Amazon, just check the cc amount. I get ones that are 400cc and harvest right I believe are 700cc. So I just use 2 of the 400cc absorbers if I’m using a harvest right size bag 😃
FYI. After talking with the Harvest Right master technician in Utah, he stated you do NOT need to buy your oil from harvest right. He says you can buy Robin air or black gold brand vacuum pump oil on Amazon. It’s these brands oil that Harvest Right sells it in their packaging plus many times it’s cheaper on Amazon.
You know you can use your Harvest right to vacuum seal jars. You just pull the tray heater out. Put one of your pans in the bottom to give a stable surface to set your jars in. Turn your vacuum pump on. Bam! I got it from retired at 40 youtube channel, check the video out if you want all the details. I can find a link to the video if anyone wants it, just let me know in the comments.
…. So why can it dehydrate but not seal? I mean, 1. I’d remove any ice and place things in jars between the freeze drying and sealing. But 2…. The presence of ice causing moisture makes about as much sense as saying because the freeze dryer creates ice that the freeze dryer doesn’t dry at all… and obviously freeze drying does dry.
Vacuuming your jars in the freeze dryer does not add water to your jars. After each freeze dry cycle the machine defrosts. I’ve done this many, many times. My foods come out just fine. I even added a moisture detector to my jars and they turn pink like they are supposed to.
Love your video's! Wanting to get the pvc cutter, when I click on your link, it takes me to a different style, and looking tool. Can you update link or let me know which one you are actually using?
The one in the video I purchased in store at Lowe's and I can't find it online anywhere.... so I tried to link a similar one but I don't own it so can't totally say its great or anything 😑
Do you put oxygen absorbers in you freeze dried candy as well? I was also wondering if the new harvest right small freeze drier is the same size as the old one
From my understanding it’s similar sized Machine but it gives you an extra shelf/tray on the inside so you can get more food in it. I don’t put absorbers in my candy - they stay fresh in heat sealed Mylar bags for about 6 months 👍🏻
Where can I get one of the Harvest Right freeze dryer insulating covers?!! I can't find them anywhere, even at the Harvest Right website. Amazon has some cheap Chinese versions, but the reviews are mixed. A lot of people say they're too small. Any help would be much appreciated!!
@@americanpatriot6918 oh I wish I knew I’m sorry I don’t! Is that the cover that sits inside the door when freeze drying? The newer machines don’t use those anymore so I wonder if that’s why they don’t sell them anymore

I base it on what I see others sell at markets... and what seems worth it for my time... I have heard $2/ounce for skittles.... I try and stay as low priced as possible but still make it worth my time. Typically that's $6/bag but there are variables at play...
Very good video , you are doing well as a speaker giving alot of information. I DO NOT like that you use silicone or plastic as they are carcinogenic thus sabotaging the holistic origins ,which is real reason to freeze dry. Besides that, Thank you for your through video , appreciate the chance to learn ❤
Again the scale is for figuring out how much liquid you need to replace in the dried food to reconstitute it, weigh before freezing track it, weigh after freezing to calculate the difference and write it on the bag, saves you from soggy food.
You again...!! Goodness gracious you old bat, surly you have something better to do than leave nasty comments on a random strangers youtube channel....!! You already stated you don't even have a freeze dryer so why even try to give unnecessary and unsolicited advice that you aren't even sure if it works or not...!! Also your saying it's cheaper to cut hard candy with a knife instead of a pvc cutter just shows your lack of intelligence and would rather worker harder instead of smarter just to save a dollar but waste more precious time that you can never get back....!! My goodness go pet a puppy or something to make you feel better...!! Then maybe you can simmer down and control your urge to leave all these negative comments....!! I'm not as nice as the channel's creator and will definitely let someone know when they've gone too far (you went to far), and I always fight fire with fire (that's just me)....!!
You know if your going to demonstrate items it would be nice if you knew how to use the item. The tray stackers don't go inside the tray they go on the edge, I don't have a freeze drier yet but even I know how to use that item. What you want to look for is the space the stacker leaves between each tray, some stackers are strickley for Storing the trays while not in use, some are for preping the food, make sure you know which is whitch otherwise you wasted your money.
I’ve seen you leave 3 negative comments on her video, if you don’t like it you can shut it off instead of giving unwanted and unnecessary advice. Let her run her business how she’d like and be quiet

Apparently you don't know business as much as you seem to think you do....!! Also what's it any of your damn business where she spends her money...!!?? Wow, the entitlement some of you people actually feel towards someone else's life/business is astounding....!! The audacity to even leave such a comment is ridiculous and I'm sure making everyone who reads it thankful they aren't related to you....!!
I use a fry scooper that makes it super easy to transfer to bags and jars
That’s a great idea I need to get one!
Does the fry scoop fit the medium trays or just the large ones?

That’s a good way to get moisture in your jars.
Why would using a freezer Dryer to vacuum seal add moisture?
@@edentulate1 because there is moisture in your FD’r. From the ice.

Usually 24-30 hours or so depending on the water content of the fruit
