After an 8 month wait here in the UK my FD finally arrived. I had your videos ready on my 'watch later' and followed along with you. I was nervous admittedly but your calm, methodical approach made the whole process easy. Many, many thanks.
Amen! I got mine Thursday, just hooked it up a few minutes ago. Doing my bread run now.. it's on the freezing cycle. I'm walking on egg shells until I see it all works fine. These videos do help! God bless all!
This is the best video on how to get started using the freeze dryer. I thank you for sharing all of this wonderful information with us. I suffer from Chemo brain and reading the instructions had me so confused, but you solved that problem for me. Looking forward to watching your videos. Thank you again and God bless.
Thank you so much for going to all the trouble of recording this step by step! That was SO HELPFUL!!! We are going to plug our Harvest Right in and set it up tonight and run our bread cycle in the morning and I have way less stress about it after seeing you! Really appreciate it and just wanted to tell you how thankful I was for this! Harvest Right themselves should have videos like this for their customers so I hope you get some kind of kick back from them for helping their customers! :) Blessings & Thanks again!
Our freeze dryer should be here in another couple weeks or so but I really appreciate the setup videos that you created! You did a fantastic job of thoroughly explaining all that needs to be done which of course will save me time when I get mine since I'm not much of a directions reading kind of guy... Thank you very much and I look forward to watching many more of your freeze drying videos. 👍
that’s a CRAZY amount of drying time for just moist bread! I hope my new small freeze dryer does better. Right now I’m in the process of doing the bread burn in. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for telling us about the importance of making sure the drain hose is not in water (and explaining why) before you open the drain valve. I have not heard that in any of the other videos I've watched so far. If anything THAT is a critical point.
Awesome video!! Our bread run just got done about 30 min ago and its in the defrost stage! Thank you so much for these videos and sacrificing the loss of sleep durning the process to show us the steps.
Great video thanks!! Mine arrived yesterday and I'm still waiting the 24 hours for the freon to settle. Bread run tomorrow so I can start it early in the morning and get it completed in one day.
Also.. if you have a pad for the window.. water doesn't usually come out the front. Because you don't use a pad, it could happen. I have a pad.. and have never had water drip out... But maybe that's just mine. This was a great video step by step.. I wish I would have had it when I got mine!!! Nice job!
I’m curious how it turned out with just the few pieces of bread on each tray? I only bought one loaf of bread. When I saw how many she had, I’m wondering if I should buy more.
Thanks for this video. I have celiac disease, and just being near bread, causes an allergic reaction. I'm trying russet potatoes (sliced into fries) instead. We'll see how it goes. Potatoes contain 80% water content and most of the rest is starch. I believe this will work.
That is a great idea! I hope it works, and I would love an update once it is done. Doing this with gluten free bread would be pretty expensive! A family member has Celiac's, but is not very sensitive at all. I did make sure to clean the drum, tray rack, and trays really good with vinegar and water (hot soapy water for the trays), and always do so between each cycle. Thank you for your comment and happy freeze drying!
@@roothomestead4504 unfortunately, I wasn't aware of the "Vacuum Freezing" stage making a loud sound, so thought the premier pump was malfunctioning. Then cancelled the entire process...lol. Only to find out later that it's normal to make that sound.
Please make more freeze dry videos! We loved your set up vids. We just bought a machine with the same software as yours and we have been having so many issues already. Our door doesn't seal on half of the ring and the screw in the door is bent. Hoping a technician can come out soon and fix it for us. Thankful for the warranty!
Thank you for your comment! We're so glad the videos were helpful. More videos are coming soon! I am sorry to hear about the troubles you are having with your machine. Hopefully things can get fixed quickly! Good luck with all of it!!
I bought a cheap set of hand pump air bags on amazon to tip the machine back while draining. They were only $10.49 for the pair and work great. You only need 1 though.

Thank you for your comment! We chose the large size freeze dryer. One of the main deciding factors was simply that we wanted to maximize the amount we could freeze dry at all times. We grow and raise a lot of our own food, especially with large volumes produced in our garden so it just made sense to us to be able to do the most amount of food as possible during each cycle. This will especially help during our gardening season, so we can preserve as much as possible and in every way possible (besides freeze drying, we also preserve by canning, fermenting, dehydrating, freezing, etc). I also simply did not want any regrets. This will probably be the only freeze dryer I will ever get, so I wanted to go all out and make the most of it.
Thanks, I just wondered how long that would take, I have not done that yet. I think I will pre freeze mine in the deep freeze. Was the extra 4 hours dry time necessary or was it just because you wanted to get more sleep because you had been up too long?
Just me, perhaps. Section regarding cooling and freezing were confusing with written instructions after all was said and done. Still wondering -- Does one close the drain tube BEFORE the 15 minute cooling starts? It's particularly helpful to have the ACCURATE instructions PRIOR to following along.
Did your freeze dryer ever give you the option of frozen or pre frozen after the bread run, mine never gave me an option after. If yours did how did you fix yours?
Ok I went step by step with your video and everything went perfect so thank you for a perfect tutorial. But I accidentally put the bread in the chamber , hope I didn’t ruin anything. I got to excited 😩So this was suppose to be on your first video, I’m still nervous I’m on the vacuum part waiting for it to go down below 500.
I’m doing the bread run right now. It reads 3-1/2 hours and -19 degrees but has not switched over to vacuum freeze yet. Am I in trouble? Suggestions appreciated
Hope you figured it out...I am just doing my bread run and worried too. I am over 2 hours in and it hasn't switched over. My bread was frozen before going in. I have watched others do bread runs with not frozen bread and it switches over to vacuuming around the 2 hour mark. I figured since my bread was frozen it would switch over faster....I am a little nervous now. Especisally with all the issues these machines have.
Bread test: My new HR instruction manual said to just let machine freeze for 30 minutes. Then switch on vacuum pump for 20-30 minutes and when mTor reaches below 500, it is successful test. Strange that this test lasted so many hours!
This is different then the test you are talking about. The 30mins to freeze and 30mins to vacuum is just a funtion test to make sure it is working. She is doing the bread run, which is after the function test. It is meant to do a first run with bread that will absorb the "new car smell." The bread run can last up to 16 hours. Then you throw out the bread at the end of it.

Question I am doing my first run (bread run) and it is at 40 hours. Why could it be taking so long when I see every one else has a much shorter time. Any ideas.
Warm room temperature has a big effect on the time needed to complete. The cooler the room temperature, the quicker the process takes. My garage was 95F when I did mine and it took 49 hours. I bought a portable AC and put it in there to lower the temperature to mid 70s and that has cut down the time to less than a 1/3. Check your room temp.
I’m doing the bread run now . But how long does this take ? It’s 8 pm now and it’s been about two hours since it began . Do I stay awake to watch it ? Ugh . I don’t know what to do
How long it takes could be different for you, because there are many factors that come into play (such as how damp the bread was, how dense the bread is, room temp, even your elevation, etc.). But my bread run took over 16 hours. If it were me, I would go to bed and maybe set an alarm at some point in a few hours to check on it. If you watch my video at about 13 minutes, it will review some helpful tips and information as well. Since you do not save the bread for this run, you also don't have to worry about packaging it quickly once it's done. So if it finishes while you are sleeping during the bread run, it isn't such a concern like it would be if you were keeping/saving the food. Hope this helps! Good luck and happy freeze drying!

Yes, it is important to do the bread run as your first run or batch. This allows the bread to absorb any smells and odors in the new machine so those odors do not get in your food. When the bread run is complete, you just throw the bread away.

The heating pads on the trays shelf go on the top not the bottom of the trays. You have the shelf upside down.
I have one more question
After it’s all done and the machine is returned to the Home Screen do we close the valve ?
Good question. We always leave ours open until we run the next load. We do this to let out any moisture.
