I was homeschooled from elementary - high school and did Dual credit at a community college from my sophomore year through my senior year before transferring to a University and I am so glad I did. I didn't focus on an associate's degree, all I did was complete enough hours to transfer to a university for my bachelor's. I am one of 8 kids, and so community college to transfer to a local university was the route we all needed to take financially, but I am so grateful for those dual credit years. Also, I loved Apologia! As someone who hated school in my high school years, my time doing science was my absolute favorite and it challenged me so much.

Great picks! Would be very interested in a video on what you find as far as scholarships go and if dual enrollment affects anything with that journey or not, as we are beginning down this road as well!

We did math without borders and the Forester algebra 1. It was good.
I Liked The good and the beautiful for English/literature.

Just FYI IEW has a new course called University-Ready Writing. It’s a semester long course, I think, but maybe something to check out for the future. My rising senior will take it this coming school year before she heads to college.

ABSOLUTELY get him involved in dual enrollment ASAP. I don't know where you are located but it is very common in public schools in the Pacific Northwest for high school students to do dual enrollment and earn an associates degree consecutively with high school graduation. This will give him a leg up since he is planning on going for his masters. If you don't think he is ready, get him ready this summer. Also I don't understand why he isn't fluent in Spanish already if he is half Puerto Rican.

So, would it be accurate to say you're moving on from Teaching Textbooks because he excels at math and you want more of a challenge? I'm currently using Teaching Textbook with my middle schooler, but on the fence about using it through high school... I like to hear the "why" behind using it or not!

In my opinion he needs an advanced / honors program. Teaching Textbooks is more for average students and its actually perfect for kids that struggle with math.

My oldest is going into 9th as well. We do CC but we don't do the Latin so I need to figure out foreign language for her. She wants to learn German. Do you know of anything like Homeschool Spanish Academy for learning German??
I LOVE what I see with HSA. I've told my daughter Spanish will be way more practical but she loves the German language and wants to learn German.

We are doing that at the co-op and I believe the teacher will provide the curriculum.

How do they Clep the class in college if all the questions are of a different old earth information. Would he need that info? Just asking because I would love to avoid college science.

    • @LivingWithEve

They should be ready to defend their faith in a young earth. Therefore they should know a little bit about old earth. They can’t avoid it. Knowing the test is old earth / evolution, they can just give them the answers they want. Better than sitting in a classroom where they will be under that for a semester.
