Awesome video. I love IEW too (struture and style).
Curious. I grew up doing Saxon from I think 4th or 5th grade on. I am partial. I loved it. For my kids since they weren’t at that level, I did teaching textbooks. I have a son that seems to struggle now with carrying and borrowing, and one that seems to get confused if math is on paper instead of a screen. I was thinking about putting them into Saxon now, but, I hesitate because in previous videos you praise teaching textbooks as an evaluator in Florida, that the kids doing TT preform better than others on other curriculums. Did that include Saxon?
So if TT is not working, then switch. If you are familiar with Saxton, then use it. However it may overwhelm them because it will be a pretty big change. You may want to look at Horizon or even Apologia math. But if you really feel drawn to Saxton, try it.
So excited for the updated Apologia zoology books! My kids chose earth science for this upcoming year, but we plan to do 2 of the zoologies next year
My son has done Saxon since 4th grade (he's also going into 7th). I had to show him your Saxon commentary. He feels pretty proud that he's doing the hardest math you know. He has a love/hate relationship with math. 😅
Which level did you use for 4th grade? I am looking into Saxon for my son and I heard they don’t really have a 4th grade. They have a 4/5 which I heard is advanced 4th grade. My son is not advanced. He’s not behind or ahead, he is right at grade level.
@@raelenegonzalez1372 We used Saxon 5/4 for 4th grade. My son is okay at math, not amazing, just average, and he did well with 5/4. He has ADHD, so anything colorful with pictures is a distraction for him, so Saxon was/is a good fit.
@raelenegonzalez1372 We did for 5/4, then didn't. We're going to use her again this year for 8/7 though!
So I was actually going to do the zoology 2 however because it did not go further into scientific method I hesitate on it because I have a 7th grader and 5th grader. My 5th grader was briefly introduced to it last year but I wanted to go more in depth this year but also wanted to take his wishes into consideration on marine life. I also wanted them to do science together. VERY interested in how you will beef this up for your older kiddos. ❤🙏
Do you do spelling or vocabulary with your older kids? Or does that fall in with the IEW? Thank you!
Vocabulary is covered by IEW, we are hitting spelling hard over the summer and then it is reinforced through IEW. I will be doing an SAT prep class with my oldest eventually, and as many of us know the SATs are more about critical thinking and test taking skills than what you know vocabulary wise.
I as the student used Saxon in middle and highschool and enjoyed it.
That is amazing! Thank you for sharing, I was a bit nervous because I know there is a variety of responses to it.
We love Saxon here, both my boys love and are doing so well with the program.
