What Phil doesn't say in his video is that we have moved in with my parents to help support them as they get older. My Stepmother is disabled, and my father has been her carer for 10 years. That, and turning 50 is no mean feat. I'm so proud of you Phil, and you inspire me every day to enjoy life to its fullest.
Hi Phil. Enjoyed the walk and the chat. At 76, I am well past the mid-life crisis. You have to stop worrying about what life is all about and accept it for what it is. Don't over-analyse things and enjoy the moments, especially those wonderful ones where you are out on the trails. Those experiences are ones to treasure. The most important thing in life is family, and from your wife's comment, it looks like you already realise that. Well done mate.
I’m hearing you with the ‘mid life realisation’, we all need to prioritise more time for ourselves and more time in the outdoors. You need a trip up here Phil, you’d love it 🙂
Good to see you enjoying the nature, Phil. I an glad your wife wrote the comment explaining your situation a bit more. My Grandma used to live with us when I was a teenager and I loved her dearly but she wasn't walking towards the end of her life for about 2 years and it was hard work looking after her even though we did want to do it. Sending you all my respect to you and your family.
C-O-W-B-O-G, Cowbog 😂 Love this video mate. Good on you for sharing some of the feelings you have had about things you are going through. It seems like you are finding your way through it. I went through something similar a few years ago, and was juggling too many plates, yet feeling like I wasn't getting anywhere with any of them. Ended up having panic attacks and seeing a doctor about it. I think it taught me some useful lessons though, and I'm more kind to myself these days. All the best fella 👍🏻❤
Thanks so much Mark and I appreciate you mentioning your own struggles. I debated talking about this stuff for awhile as obviously its quite personal stuff but also not really anything to do with trail running. This running holiday came at just the right time though and helped a great deal articulate how I felt and as you will see in later videos, get my head sorted out! Thanks for your support as ever mate 😊
Very inspirational videos, these. Good job! I'm in the process of losing weight and regaining my strength and endurance. I used to be in unbelievably good shape (after the Finnish army service) but decades of easy life after that has taken it's toll, so to speak. But the situation can and will be fixed, and that's what I'm doing now (8th week in zone2 training) and things are going very well so far. These videos helps me to stay motivated, inspired and committed, so these are very much appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks for your great comments. Its such a lovely feeling being stronger and fitter so best of luck on your journey. Some advice though - don't compare yourself to your life in the Army and fit you were then. Try a new version of you and not chase who you were. Thanks for watching my man 😊
@@trailrunningphil You're absolutely right. My intention is not to travel back in time :) Instead I'm focusing to improve the quality of life, so that I feel better, have more energy which will inevitably lead to more positive attitude overall. Mens sana in corpore sano, as they once used to say. It still holds true.
Excellent! Love it. Remember now the years I ran it we went the other way….. think i lost count of the number false summits wide open hill has 😂 thanks for jogging the memory.
Well of course it is!!! :) I couldn't quite believe my eyes up there at wide open mate. Just incredible!!! Thanks again for the inspiration for this adventure 🙌
Great part of the world. Nicely put and nice comment by your wife. We do what we can. The fact that there is always more good things we could do is kind of great I suppose if you think about it.
Thanks for taking a look mate. Your right yes. To have options to do things is a privilege that must not be overlooked. I guess its more about not being able to do anything well, and just doing a "bit" of this and that.... that seems to be the under lying feeling as I get older.. but I will get there! Hope your keeping fit and well!
Nice one Phil, really enjoying this series, Carla and I just put this one up on the big TV to get the full experience for the premiere! This kind of adventure running is great, going out and exploring a new trail. Glad you made it across that treacherous river 😅 I could relate to a lot of what you were saying about not feeling you can do enough of anything and that sense of 'I wish I could do more of this..' it's not easy to fit it all in when you've got lots of different interests you want to pursue. Looking forward to episode 3!
ah wow on the big screen eh! Yes I know your into your music too arent you mate... you mentioned you will be focusing on that now after the 100 miler? These five days have given me the confidence to take on longer paths over even more days so hopefully more series like these coming on this channel in the future! As ever, many thanks for you and Carla for watching :)
@@trailrunningphil Great stuff, I'm hoping to do more of that kind of running this summer where its just about exploring and seeing new routes. Good sense of freedom. Yes a bit more music, a bit more writing. Still running but less of a training focus for the moment! Be great to see what trail to pick to explore next

Totally get the `wish I could cram more into life', which becomes more acute with each passing year. Oh for those wasted early years to re-use.
Indeed! Thanks for taking a look. Hope your both fit and well :)
Looks like a nice trail. Good vid, well made 👍
Oh its breathtaking Ryan. I definitely was very lucky with the weather!
Phil has been sharing your videos with me for a while Ryan - Congratulations on the London Ultra!
@@FindingmyheARTspace thank you Nell.
