Why we say NO to startups

  • Have you ever wondered why rejection hurts so much?
It doesn’t matter if it’s being stood up on a date or getting fired from a job; the sting of rejection is always painful.
That’s because the same areas of our brain become activated when we experience rejection as when we experience physical pain.
But the greatest damage rejection causes is usually self-inflicted. Rather than pick ourselves up and lick our wounds, we become intensely self-critical.
In fact, it took me years to change this mindset. Now my approach to rejection is that it’s not a reflection of me but rather my approach.
And that’s something that I can always improve on.
As founders, there are many resources that attempt to help us get to a ‘YES’ from our investor pitch. Yet, there is relatively little clarity on why investors say ‘NO’ and what can we do to improve future pitches.
The good news is that our next virtual event will give you insight into why we say NO at Hustle Fund.
On March 24th, Eric Bahn, GP at Hustle Fund, presented his top 10 list of why he rejects founders, walking through the logic about why he believes the company wasn’t something he could support.

You guys are sweetest investors ever! i sent you a deck and i am from India and you mailed me back saying you are not investing in India right now. First of all thanks for letting me know... and also please know you have a huge fan from someone who knows you might never invest in Indian companies ever.
I learn a lot from hustle fund. I love your current news letter which talks about the" PITCH DECK MISTAKES ", i check all your videos , attend all your seminars , I am like this love stuck puppy. I love hustle fund team and thanks from all of us for the work you are doing.

I got your No, but I still follow you and watch your videos because you were honest, clear, and shared an actual real-life justification which I could understand. which 100% of other VCs didn't, actually some of them didn't reply at all.
