Thanks. There's something quite raw and primitive cutting stone with tools. I recently had a go at cutting patio slabs. I did find that laying them on some builders sand on the patio a great way to stop any movement. But these were bigger slabs. My first two cuts went pear shaped and the split occured prematurely. Easier with straight line cuts. If you had a whole patio to do, a power tool would be better, but, it's great to practice with yours hands and bring out the stone masoner in you, skills that have probably been lost in this high tech world of ours. 😁😁😁

I have cut limestone field blocks using this method. However, these stones are nearly flat on opposite sides. To cut a round stone you would need to score it deeply all around the fracture line. It is not like cutting a diamond, because diamonds have natural fracture planes.

It does not need to be a certain width. I previously had one. My father used it when he did stone masonry. I got this one from Home Depot.
