    Sometimes its clear that a person is pitying you and its not easy not to think about it esp when you meet a lot of selfish people and you are an empath and have anxiety and panic disorder. Its exactly how it makes me feel that no one likes me that i.ll be forever alone etc as you said

    I usually assume that people don’t like me. Well, used to…I’m working on this. If a boss, colleague or professor didn’t email me back-I would assume that they didn’t like me and would spiral down. It’s silly looking back- but the feeling of sadness is strong.
    Doing things that make you happy, taking care of oneself- getting to know oneself helps to block the negative self-talk. Just have to love yourself ❤.
    Great video 👍 just found this channel 🙏

    Yes, these patterns of thinking become habituated! They become almost a safe space, oddly enough. It takes some work to break that reflexive pattern. My wife and I were discussing the state of our business' supply situation one night and in short order I had a nuclear war scenario as the end result. To which she wisely said something like "I'll take a meteor strike thank you". Integrating actions with thought patterns helps me make changes in those thoughts. Doing a good thing for someone or doing an enjoyable activity can bring the thoughts along and vice versa. Simply having a phone call with a friend this morning lifted the mood.

    • @DrRamiNader
      @DrRamiNader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're absolutely right that these thinking patterns become habitual and, often, we are not even aware that we are doing them. That's why cognitive awareness is such an important first step.

    This video is a lightbulb 💡💡 moment for me, it makes so much sense, allowing my negative thoughts to spiral out of control leads to sadness/depression, I’m going to try and nip the negative thoughts immediately and replace it with practical positive thoughts even though I mightn’t be feeling positive and hopefully in time rewire my brain. I'm watching lots of videos on YT everyday and I'm surprised to find a youtuber who actually explains this "spiral down depression" so well... great job!
    However, I have this question for you:
    Don't you think that if you make a shorter version of this video you'd probably get more views?
    I repeat, I really liked how peacefully you explained it but as a TH-cam consumer, I think most audience is not as patient as me. What do you think?

    • @DrRamiNader
      @DrRamiNader  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Agustin - thank you for your feedback and I'm glad you found the video helpful. I'm not sure that if I made the videos shorter they would get more views. In reality, I make the videos as long as they need to be to explain the psychological concepts. I find that for too many videos on TH-cam, they fall into the "5 simple steps trap" and psychological phenomenon are more complex than that. I want the videos to be how I explain and describe these phenomena to my clients in session and if that means fewer views, that's ok, because I'm not doing this just to get views. I think there's a thirst for more nuanced and detailed content and for people who are looking for that, they (hopefully) will find my videos helpful. The interesting thing is that my most viewed video with over 719 thousand views is over 55 minutes long! So it just may take longer for people to find my videos, but I hope it will be worth it for them when they do :)

      @@DrRamiNader thank you for your response! It's true there're lots of "tips videos" on the internet and I truly encourage you to keep doing it your way. In fact, your speach got me to the end because I felt it was more natural or something like that, than other youtubers :)
      I just wanted to ask you what did you think to try to help if I could somehow.
      By the way, it was interesting to see your point and if someday I create any content, I'll take it into account for sure!
      Hope to watch more of your videos, bye!

  • @Honest_review85
    @Honest_review85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What if Jimmy doesn't like you and got a better offer ? Which is possible because you are not the best person to hang out with since you are depressed. That could be true. People need to be around positivity and people that make them feel good. What would stop the negative thought and the sad feeling which would be a normal human reaction ?

    • @DrRamiNader
      @DrRamiNader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case, it would probably make sense to be upset because Jimmy doesn't like me. However, just because Jimmy doesn't like me, that doesn't mean that everyone doesn't like me or that I am unlovable. So a person can have feelings of sadness, but they don't need to spiral downwards.

    • @Honest_review85
      @Honest_review85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrRamiNader Thank you for the response. I appreciate your willingness to help people with your videos.
      I have chronic depression and I realized that people tend to slowly get away from me since I don't shine with happiness and joy. I do my best to be positive but I understand I'm not the most fun person to be around. All these make me or someone who has depression feel unlovable. Also you get to see that we live in a world where people like you only when you make a good company. This realization made me understand that most people don't really care or love their fellow human beings. They only like how you make them feel. This is a very sad realization for someone to live with. It gives you a sense that there is really nothing positive to expect from people and life in general. That people are selfish. How can someone change this belief so he sees life in a different perspective and therefore start to feel eager to get out of bed and love life. Find meaning in life in general. Maby you could do a video about the stigma of society has on people who suffer from depression and how a depressed person can handle society's rejection and question these negative beliefs. Which is true in many ways out of my experience. As soon as depression goes away with treatment and "success" comes back in your life in some way then suddenly everyone wants to be part of your life again.

    • @SaraDj10
      @SaraDj10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's because reality only just exacerbates our thoughts and beliefs. When we are detached from ourselves in flight mode and so anhedonic that nothing in this materialistic world gives us pleasure or any feeling of connection to life, everyone else will be equally as detached to us because we provide no value. So, only when we're connected to ourselves and the universe that people can connect to us. Im not sure if it's a sad reality or just reality. Like neutral.

    This is too funny. As I'm watching this video, a text message pops up from a dear friend that I'm supposed to have lunch with today. She's cancelling because she's got Sciatica. We go back 50 years and we've been through a lot together, and enjoy each other's company immensely. But through the skewed lens of depression, I begin to analyze the situation. Sciatica? Really? We can't sit for coffee in your house? And the downward spiral begins. To make matters worse she invites me to her brother's birthday party tomorrow. What? So miraculously the Sciatica will be better in a day? Hmmm! Just like your video portrays, I begin thinking that she made other plans, or finds our banter dull and boring now, But then I think of the concrete things like the 50 years of friendship, and all the times we've spent together, and my anxiety abates. I actually feel good inside now. Dr. you've no idea how much your videos have helped me, and it's only been three days. You've got a warm way of conveying how this all works that's simplified and digestable. You should write a book with all these powerful lessons. It would stand head and shoulders above the psycho babble, bloated garbage pandered by the snake oil gurus. You could help so many others and probably becoame a millionaire too boot. 😄
