13:08 In my opinion, this is the clip from CoasterFan2105 that I will remember most of all. Always loved watching this channel since it was kind of what got me into trains!
It's nice to see this train from the outside. I was riding in (as I recall) the 2nd Amfleet car back. Coincidentally, CoasterFan2105, this is the trip which first introduced me to Coaster and I took a great photo of their F40PH # 2105 at Carlsbad station.
Santa Fe 3751 is an interesting locomotive to me. If it existed anywhere else I really wouldn’t care for it but it was the large steam locomotive in my area and I have grown more fond of it because of that. It’s probably 3rd place on my list for the steam locomotive in restoration is due to return soon right behind 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and 3801. I’ll definitely be seeing her when she’s back.
Hi Mike; Thank you for the great look back and the story that goes with it. Watching the railfans crowding the open vestibule windows and the baggage card doors reminds me of the early 1960's in Ontario when the Upper Canada Railway Society sponsored many steam excursions behind CNR's Northern class 4-8-4's locomotives. I spent many days in those baggage cars. They always had a number of large tables which were full of fans' reel to reel tape decks recording the history. It is sad that no organization stepped up to the plate with a commitment to preserve/restore such power when the certifications expired. Nice work ! And thank you for sharing.
Wow, with National Train Day coming up I'm getting antsy to do some travelling but who knows what is going to happen this year. This is starting to hurt the smaller railroads and groups.
CALIDOT Information: California Please note: Due to the current Pandemic, these cars are unlikely to enter service in mid-2020 The CALIDOT Fleet will be replacing the Comet Cars used on the San Joaquins along with 4 Nor-Cal trainsets. These sets will be sent to replace the Horizon set on the Surfliner. The other 3 will be broken up to replace the Superliners on the Surfliner.
From what I’ve read 3751 is scheduled to return very shortly. I’ve been following the FRA 15-year rebuild on their Facebook and according to the group, the rebuild is almost done.
Where did you hear that 507 has been sold? Unless you've heard that from an official source, I would take that with a grain of salt. Amtrak rebuilt the dash-8s a few years ago, so I doubt they'll be going anywhere for a while.
CoasterFan2105 yeah... also can you railfan la puente C.A. Union Pacific goes by there on the Alhambra sub... I recommend going there around the night time and afternoon because a lot of GE locomotives come by... also the best railfanning spots would have to be Bixby drive, Stimson ave, and Fullerton road off of Valley Blvd oh yeah almost forgot the best time to railfan would be around night would be 12 am and 6 am because it gets very busy over there at night and for noon would be around 4-6 PM... but yeah tell me what you think.
Great footage and video Mike! That weekend was sure a fun one and one of my first excursions behind mainline steam power. I too just recently re-shared some of those memories of the footage my family and I got of this excursion on my channel too. Thanks for re-sharing your footage to your viewers! Man, this has got to be one of your best videos ever! But then again I biased because 3751 is one of my favorite steam locomotives! I only hope to be able to chase her someday.
Oh my god this is memory lane for me. This was my first ever steam excursion, and a big one for me since I had been dreaming of going behind 3751 since I was a kid in the early 2000's. Great work on the documentary!
From before, when they would run this steam locomotive. They used to have real Santa Fe silver coaches behind it, and of course Santa Fe diesel locomotives as well to help. But nowadays I don't know if Amtrak owns the steam locomotive, but I would see some Amtrak locomotives and a mix-up of other coaches behind-the-scene locomotive. And that's not right. I hope to see you real silver Santa Fe coaches, and BNSF locomotives behind the steam locomotive if they ever use it again. Because I really want to see Santa Fe tradition for the steam locomotive itself, and to give some real nostalgia for the entire train itself. And to have BNSF locomotives behind the steam locomotive, I won't mind on that. I just want to see a real nostalgic tradition of the Santa Fe to be used for the steam locomotive itself, along with the help of two or three BNSF locomotives
The Santa Fe cars were only used for the 1992 employee appreciation trips I think. All the other trips have been a mix of privately owned and Amtrak cars.

Awesome job Mike I absolutely love your videos there awsome keep up the awesome work and I noticed that the Coaster train meeting the special looks like your old Intro
Awesome video, I can't wait to see her return to service in soon when she passes the boiler inspection, hopefully Richard Anderson doesn't get in the way for ruining our railroads, everybody just hates him including me! One con I have to admit was 8:57 when you said quiet zone, it just makes me mad to see people not realise that more cars are getting hit every year thanks to them, and yet they claim quiet zones are there to help them feel relaxed and peaceful, but when the horn sounds off, it damages their ears supposedly causing noise pollution, I totally doubt that! I really hope they start removing quiet zones soon to teach those people a lesson about railroad safety, if they don't like the horn, either they get used to it or simply move to a different area, but asking for quiet zones, oh ho no, don't get me started with those!
great awesome trip video and catches with good whistle action of this famous steamers run to San Diego with other trains the steamer is back on service nawa after it had the inspection a while ago

Thanks! And yes, 3751 should be back relatively soon. It's just that every 15 years, the Federal Railroad Administration requires all steam locomotives to have their boilers inspected to make sure they are up to code.
I don't know exactly what it is, but there's just something I find totally awesome about the howl of a P42DC behind a steam locomotive. It's unfortunate that the Chargers will be putting an end to that...

THE most iconic shot of this entire channel with no doubt
I love the Santa Fe 4-8-4’s. I didn’t know that the people who own the locomotive currently only bought 3751 for a d o l l a r
Crazy right?
Yup! It was really just for the purpose of making it a legal transaction from the city to the historical society.
What!? It was just something for PUBLICITY?
2926: pathetic.
Union Pacific: They paid for it?
The collaboration between AT&SF and Baldwin during the years of steam sure did produce some good looking locomotives.
