I really don’t get why Panasonic is not going for it. A new GX model and perhaps a new LX100 iii would be so good… but it seems they are leaning more to full frame models
This camera has been on my mind for so long and I was so happy to see this in my subscription feed. Thank you for the wonderful video and yes please to another video stating alternatives for this camera. I don't want to break my bank just to join the trend with everyone saying how immaculate this camera is (well during its initial release with the internet dubbing it as its favourite camera).
Your review is very well thought out. For me, it was just a good reminder of how much I love my E-M1 mark iii. It fits my needs perfectly, and I’ve no need to go looking elsewhere.
Thanks MPB. I just got a Nikon D810 from them and had top customer service when the battery supplied with it was a bit duff. They sent out a replacement that was almost new. ,👍
Not for cheapskates , but a very good alternative can be ZF + 28/40 mm . Better bulit , better ibis , better AF , ability to change lenses (the 40 and 28 are also silent) , weather sealed , better battery life , and so on...
I was just about to add a comment/question about what would you suggest as a more reasonably priced alternative and then said you would soon in another video! Well done balanced review!
Thank you! It was so hard to do 😂 I tried everything from a macro lens to a wide angle lens and in the end, my phone did a better job. Sorry it isn't better quality but hopefully you get the idea 😁
Can't wait for the next video, talking about similar specs / results for same or lower budget. I love these cameras and would buy one if they were (1) cheaper and (2) available! Will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the competition to this range (especially if there are any cameras that have something similar to recipes, for decent JPEGs straight out of camera!).
As a x100v owner, I agree with most of the points made. Seeing comparisons of the 26 to 40mp aren't enough of an upgrade for me. The video and IBIS yes are major upgrade reasons, but then again held back by the battery being weak. And no, not nitpicking at all asking for a charger on the box. They aren't cheap, and a must if you want to maintain the camera working for a long time. I highly recommend against charging batteries in the camera. Excellent video!
Can't wait to see the next video, comparing other options to this. I thought about making the change but I love my GX85 with my 20mm lens to much and when I need a Fuji fix, I just take out my old X-T100 with my 27mm. Thanks for the vid!
The clarity problem - spot on. I once had the X-T30 II and everytime I wanted to shoot something that moves rather fast, I had to change to burst mode and sacrifire clarity setting. It's been several years with 2 X-trans generations and Fuji still cannot solve this problem. As for an alternative, GX9 with Leica 15mm or Olympus 17mm is a great option. This combo looks great and takes decent pictures too. Other options could be Pana LX100II/Leica Dlux7, Canon G5X mk2, or depending on used price/region, you can go as far as Sony A7C with cheap primes. There seems to be a boom in M43 rangefinder cameras however, and the GX9 as well as some others are becoming grossly overpriced in my place (Japan).
If you can buy one at retail price its fine for the money, I think a lot of the hype comes from people paying reseller prices. Some of the resellers are charging crazy mark-ups. I remember reading the camera is no longer made in Japan, so maybe they can crank up production in the near future, but that may kill the hype. Its like the sneaker market.
i just think of it as a Digital film camera, then you don't notice the perceived short comings. Puts a smile on my face using it so money well spent i have the 5 and 6 both put the smile on my face.
I had a X100V for about a year, and loved it. Unfortunately I also really couldn't afford to have it, it was a luxury. So when prices went through the roof, I really couldn't afford not to sell it for $1000 more than I paid for it. Currently using X-E2 with the Voigtlander 27mm f/2 and TTArtisan 27 if I need autofocus, and having my preferred 40mm focal length has actually made up for what I lost.
While I bought an x100v as an everyday carry, I ended up selling it because I felt too constrained by the 35mm equivalent focal length. Now, I’m trying Fuji again, this time with an X-T50. It has most of the advantages and drawbacks you describe for the x100vi, but with interchangeable lenses. I’ve committed to purchasing only compact lenses - X Mount has many to choose from. Another advantage: I was able to get my camera right away rather than waiting for many months for the x100vi. I seriously considered an M43 camera as an alternative (specifically the Oly OM-D E-M5 III), and watched your tiny M43 lens video repeatedly. But I ended up with the Fuji because 40MP leaves lots of room to crop, I prefer the tilting screen to the Oly fully articulating screen, and I really love having an autofocus joystick.
I have the X100VI. I did um and er on it, but I'm glad I didn't cancel the (very long wait of the) pre-order. It is just a lovely camera to use (I have three micro four thirds cameras: don't worry, I'm still faithful). I don't care about the charger at all - I'd much rather have less ewaste. It charges quickly and *everyone* already has a USB C charger. I do think cheaping out on the filter adapter is crummy of Fuji.
Started with this lense and kept it for a while so didn’t really noticed it. But recently acquired the olympus 45mm 1.8, and was like what is that focus speed ..!
I am picking up my Fuji X100Vi camera tomorrow as the store informed me my order has finally arrived!!!!! I ordered in February on release date and had to wait 6 months here in Melbourne, 🇦🇺. Can't wait to use it. Also own the Lumix GX85 which l absolutely love and my very first camera, Canon T70, all of which l will never part with!
Thank you, a well thought out and balanced review. The overall impression I'm getting is that Fuji are trying to pump as much profit as they can out of the X100 range. It's an attractive camera but the cost including the optional extras, just doesn't appeal to me and I'll be sticking with the Lumix GX8.
Nice review .. love how you can zoom into diff “focal lengths” whereas the Leica Q range just gives you Framelines. That lens does sound like a Dalek though
I think the X100VI is very appealing, and having owned an X100V previously (though shooting more recently with a GRIIIx), I think it's a worthwhile upgrade. I got to test drive the VI a bit recently, and thought it was a very good camera, but I also think the lens is not holding up as well against the 40mp sensor. It's not soft, but when I was doing direct comparisons between my GR and the VI, the GR had notably more sharpness. I would also say, if you can get a VI for retail, jump on it (should you have the means), but if you are contemplating at the markup prices, people should consider a X-Pro3 + 27mm or various Fujicrons (if you want weather sealing), or even cheaper an X-E4 and the same lenses (sans weather sealing).
I don't want the charger. The filter adapter I agree, don't add clarity just add a filter. For the rest of the issues, just buy the V it's a better choice.
Can't wait to see/hear your thoughts on X100vi alternatives. btw I have one and love it! Also I think alot of people forget about the Canon EF-M mount cameras. The M6ii is soo good and with sigma and Viltrox lenses you can get great photos and video for small budget. Personally I wish sigma would have released the 15-50mm f2.8 zoom for the EF-M mount. Would have been perfect.
@@berndschimpf89 I think we need affordable alternatives, but that wasn’t stipulated 🤣 also I don’t think it’s pocket or small like the other cameras were talking about. I don’t care what anybody says. It’s not small.
I have the X100V. I use the 50 and 70 crop modes sometimes. They work very well despite the smaller mpx count of the V. These cameras are special, I want to take photos with it. I like the fancy viewfinder. I like the controls. It has a flash too!
I had have the X100S and the X100V. It must be fun to pick up a camera and use it everyday. Now I have a real Rangefinder, a ten years old Leica M-P 240. To use this camera is more satisfying for me than every AF camera I used before (in 40 years+).
Excellent well thought out and presented video. This is my first time seeing your channel. I have the 100V and like it very much. However I'm a Nikon shooter overall and recently purchased the Zf, which has all the IBIS I need. I also don't care about video, so I'll continue to enjoy the V for the qualities it does bring.
Enjoyed your VI video - and your yearning for more video features. I like the logoless front of the fuji. most manufacturers stick their logo on the front (and often centre!). Do you know of any MFT cameras where the manufacturer was confident enough not to stick a logo on the front for all to see? I noticed fans went a little nutty when Pana used black for its logo on the S5iix Imagine if they'd not included one at all :)
Hi Emily I would add a criticism about the Fuji: no weather sealing. And about the charger, I think it's not an issue : how many chargers do you have ? It's USB C, it's fitting with the first coming charger or computer. You can also plug it with a power bank whereas in your bag when you don't use it. But for the money Fuji spared on not providing a charger, they could have offered a lens hood and weather sealing !
It does have weather sealing, but you have to mount a filter to achieve it - which means having to buy a bloody adaptor, which you really should not have to do. Fujifilm should have given all of their X100 series cameras a proper filter thread.
I haven't seen you review a Fujifilm yet, Emily - glad to see this! I agree with all of your points. To me, the X-T30 II= the X100V and the X-T50 = X100VI in terms of the guts of the cameras, but the non X100 versions offer interchangeable lens options. I still love my X-T30 II I never - almost 100% never buy a fixed lens camera. I hate being locked into one focal length. The X-T30II has great AF and 26mp is all I need. If you absolutely want/need IBIS, there's the X-S10 and X-S20 as well. Oh, and I like you and a "Bargain Betty" so there's always room in my darkroom studio for a used camera before I ever buy new! Cheers!
Great video!! Been looking for a British content creator to satisfy my point and shoot cravings and this was great! I have subscribed and really looking forward to what I can get instead of the Fuji master 🙌🎉
I have a X100T that was my first digital camera after more than 10 years without to buy a camera. Until that camera I always used analogic camera.. a Nikon FM2. For me, my choice was motivated because I dont have patience for read instructions manuals. So, the most important for me was the Fujifil have mechanical bottons for set my photos. But, my disappointment was the photo in the low light with high iso. Today I think to buy a Nikon Zf... for have more quality I think. Basically my photos I always shoot everydays scene into the bus on the way to job...In other words low light because a have to set for high speed... Very difficult... But a like the results. Excelent review!! I love your videos.
I had the original (from new) X100, and now have a X100T. I am not interested in the later models as I am quite happy with the old sensor. Three points:- 1. The lenses have always been a bit creaky in AF. I suspect, but don't know, it is because they have leaf shutters. If you can't put up with this creakiness, switch to MF and use the AE lock to focus. Having a leaf shutter is really important for these cameras as it enables the use of flash with high shutter speeds. 2, Apart for not making enough of them and thereby bumping the price up, my biggest criticism is the fact that every X100 series camera has the same utterly stupid need for a special adaptor to mount filters. For God's sake Fujifilm just give the things a normal filter thread! 3. Although greater battery capacity is desirable, I can't see how they could have fitted a bigger battery in the camera without making the camera a fair bit bigger. It's a trade off which IMO Fujifilm got right Other than that, I think your criticisms and observations of the camera are spot on.
Coming from a fujifilm x100f and missing out of the x100v, I pre ordered the x100vi hours after the announced it and I JUST got it in today. No joke. I got the x-s20 while I was waiting for it for something to shoot and it has everything the x100vi has and more. Open gate for video is worth it alone. Gonna be getting rid of the x100vi
I’ve had the V almost since its release. It’s just a fun camera. It’s great in the fall and winter as it will fit in a jacket pocket well. I don’t shoot any video, so those issues related to video don’t impact me at all. The digital teleconverter is nice, but I also bought the TCL and WCL for when I know one or the other will be needed.
A very interesting and refreshing video. I agree with pretty much all of your comments, especially about the cost of some of the accessories such as the weather sealing kit, the microphone adaptor and the Wide-angle and Tele converter lenses. But lots of things disappoint me about modern marketing. Due to 'cost' or 'environmental' concerns, many manufacturers no longer include a battery charger, or printed owners manual. Many no longer produce a traditional, glossy brochure. And it is all pointless because people will still buy a charger which will add to electronic waste eventually, many will print the manual from a pdf which will cause more environmental issues with ink and paper etc, and some may still print versions of the brochure too. At the cost of this camera, I would be more than happy to pay a little extra for an included charger, which would still be cheaper than buying a separate one, and safer than getting an after-market one built to a lower standard. But still a lovely camera, and after pre-ordering mine back in early February, I am hoping to collect it tomorrow. Oh, and I subscribed too.
I had an original x100 many years ago and didn't like the limitations of a fixed lens so have absolutely no interest in the x100 series of cameras. Imo it's over priced for what you get but with the demand it's also understandable. I would prefer to get an xpro series of camera and have the ability to change lenses over the x100 series.
Check out the Fujifilm x70! I have the x10 and x20 because I also hate a fixed lens. The x70 has an APSC sensor but I quite love the two I have with smaller sensors (and MP)
I adore my VI just as did the previous versions that I had. This is the best yet though. The x100 line of cameras are quirky and definitely not for everyone but they’re definitely for me! I love them!
I looked up the price of this FujiFilm X 100 VI Limited Edition and then thought of my beloved Olympus Pen-F (2016) for the use on street photography as 98% of the FujiFilm buyers will do. I still think the Pen-f is the better looking "artsy" camera and it came with a charger. If you could buy it new for its original price and added the 17mm f1.8, 25mm f1.8, 45mm f1.8 and 75mm f1.8 lenses (no need to punch in) it still would be cheaper than the FujiFilm. So, what have we gained in those 8 years?
Olympus PEN-F with 2 batteries, 12mm f2 with free original metal square hood, 17mm f1.8, 25mm f1.8 , 45mm f1.8 and PEN E-P3 all with packaging and fully complete with supplied accessories, in pristine condition for €1535. Practical point of view is, if one of this fails, I can still continue compared with if X100V or VI fails, then I am doomed. And you are right, the PEN-F is a beauty too.
Brilliant review. Ok, there are so many nice lenshoods to buy, so I think it is ok when it isn´t in the package. But why I have to buy a wheather sealinbg kit, or a charger? At last all the X100 are a fun to use: the viewfinder, the ND filter, the flash, and of course the reicipes and the form factor let our heart smile and go out to shoot.
Good review...I did love my Fuji X70 back in the day....I don't do much video ...but...I much prefer my pair of used A7c (mark 1) bodies...(two small FF Sony bodies for the price of one small APSC Fuji...LOL) ...Plus... plenty of cheap small lenses to fit Sony... and the Sony battery gets over 700 shots ...Of course I am just old and buy second hand cheap gear...the difference in mpx means absolutely nothing (to me)...Rock on Emily! Cheers from Bangkok ( am from USA but I retired here)
Very nice in-depth take on this very popular camera. Just last week I met a new guy at my work who happens to have a mark V.. and I just found a great price on a Lumix lx10 and had to grab that one for my own tiny camera stash. Just for fun we're going to go do some walking around photography and trade cameras I think though I'll probably try to sneak in him my Olympus EM1 Mark III to try as well
I smile when hearing folk talking about the need to carry a spare battery or two, whilst forgetting the need to carry a roll of film for every 30 or so shots in days of yore. Given the choice.... I'll take the battery every time. YMMV 😊
Additionally a USB cable is provided for charging in the camera. You can buy a much better and more compact battery charger than any supplied by any camera maker. The Fuji lens shade, in addition to not being included, does not really match the silver on the camera. Square Hood is a much better match for color, but not for texture.
Great Video! I agree with you, a camera with this price tag should inklude a charger and "water proof filter". Looking forward to find out your tips on alternatives. YNWA
Looking forward to the follow-up video on alternatives. I can’t bring myself to pay that much for a deliberately reduced run of cameras to bump up price.
Good god girl you get all the toys. As you said for £1500 I'd want so much more. Also I have shot Liverpool a lot but some of the angles you shot I have never seen and I thought I had a good eye.
If the best camera is the one you have with you then the worst camera is the one you can't even buy! 😂 Magnificent video as always. I caught the X100 hype late and have seldom had the opportunity to purchase a current on at any generation. I've never seen the VI in stock! I'm just crossing my fingers for an rx100mk8
I actually made a video about this recently 😊 it was comparing the s9 to the x100v, but the recipe function is the same in the x100vi. th-cam.com/video/nFGEPNxGRWg/w-d-xo.html
If you’re waiting on the perfect camera then you have a long wait ahead of you… but in saying that it’s much improved with the 40mp sensor, IBIS, and the processor and autofocus of the X-T5. Now, the processor is fine but the autofocus is at times, a bit frustrating too just like it is in the X-T5 where it will focus on someone in the background rather than the person at the front whom you are trying to capture (face and eye autofocus). I have same issues with my X-T5 which can be really annoying when out doing street photography and try to focus on the person I want to capture so much so that I’m considering going back to pre focus and readjusting where I’m pointing to. I’ve only had the X-T5 for around six months now so I’m still getting used to it, and the X100VI for around a month now. I’m glad I got one; I got extremely lucky finding one as I called my camera store to find out how long the waiting list was and was told “we have one hear now, would you like it?” I grabbed it…! What would I change for the next version? I’d want a weather sealed lens so no need for additional mounts and filters, I’d want a much much quicker and accurate autofocus too! Other than that not much else… oh, yes, and add a charger in the box Fuji! 🏴 Enjoy your X100VI… Best wishes. PS I added a thumb rest and a hand grip both from Smallrig to make it more comfortable and secure in my hand and the filter kit which should keep dirt off the sensor, something that happens with my X100V be for the weather seal kit came back into stock as the wind blow something inside the lens and onto the sensor which meant it had to go back to Fuji for them to clean, which they did free of charge. Oh, and this is my third X100 camera, I’ve has the S, V and now the VI.
Hi and thanks for the superb content. World love to see you test a Samsung NX500 (a ten-year old camera from a «dead» system) against a current camera 😊
I think the camera is overpriced for the sake of street photography BUT so is Zeiss and Hasselblad branded cameras. Would I love to have one or both of these, you betcha. For the money OM Systems OM-1 mk ii or the LUMIX G9 mk ii are better values. I know that’s comparing oranges and bananas but all of the photographic gear is based on market value than useful plain features built into a weathered body. 😂
I wish they had the D-pad (the directional pad with the button in the middle). I have an original x100 and the VI I just got has no D-pad, and the stick thing is easily knocked about and frankly is not to my liking. The loss of the pad means that a nice 4 buttons are gone, and with the Vi I keep knocking the stick control and moving the focus box. Plus the stick is easily bumped by the Small Rig leather carry case when the case is closed. It's not a severe problem but I find it a design flaw. Focus speed is much better and eye detection is great, but this is NOT a camera for good follow focus, so care is needed. I do like the fabulous resolution and sharpness and beautiful DOF at F8. I agree with you absolutely about the charger and battery life, BUT in the days of film 400 shots is 10 rolls; which is to say, maybe you are a monkey with a machine gun, and you should consider shots more thoughtfully if you are blowing through things, unless you are not getting the needed number of shots out of a battery. I will say the "reminder" that you need a different version of the battery for "extra battery life" when you turn the camera on with an older/ original Fuji battery (no odd dot on it), is really annoying. If you know what you are getting and all that goes with it you will really like the x00VI, it is a great little camera. The thing is that these days, phones are a great little camera too, and they basically have the DOF most people want and are always in focus quick and easy. So, you have to know and want what you are getting or you could spent the same money on a phone and get top of the line. But if you are into it, or want an actual camera and know what you are getting the x100Vi is a fabulous camera (albeit with lousy painful menus, no D-pad, and some other annoyances). Neither people nor cameras are perfect and both will annoy you and disappoint you, but your camera won't lose its teeth, drink too much, or vote the wrong way, so there's that. Best wishes, nice video, God bless!
Panasonic should get that gx9 and lx100 successors with full weather sealing and real time lut feature (and possibly an nd on the LX100 😌) to give fuji a run for its money.
I have no issue with no charger. We’ve all got a thousand usb c cables and plugs kicking about. That being said, running multiple batteries is annoying if you have to charge the battery in camera. On that basis, I wish camera manufacturers would adopt the on board usb c port on the batteries that third party manufacturers offer. I’ve got SmallRig batteries for my X-H2 - don’t even use the genuine one. Sadly the Newell one I bought for my OM-1.2 pretty much bricks it, so I imagine there’s a way to go before they become commonplace.
Beautiful camera...destined to be a classic. I'm still holding out for a Pen F ii I value interchangeable lenses, weather sealing, and a new price under $2k. I'm also a MFT fanboy🤪
You are not being a cheapskate at all! For the price the filter adaptor and charger should be included - would also be nice to include a lens hood. The price is crazy! I bought an x100t just after it was released and while a pretty penny I could justify the expense personally and for my wife. No way could I justify the x100vi - this is now at a price that doesn’t make sense anymore. The jump from the x100v is huge for not much - other than a 40mp sensor that few really need. Wish they’d kept producing x100v in parallel for those not needing a huge sensor.
I loved my X100F, can’t believe you don’t even get the charger anymore! And it’s so spenny for a “one tricky pony” kind of camera. I must say, I think Fuji are capitalising on the hype at the moment, and even though they are undoubtedly beautiful and very fun to use, I don’t think you can justify the price for this 🥲 Great overview and insights as always 🎉
Yeah, I mean I get usb c is a thing, but you're going to want multiple batteries for this camera in my experience! And bottlenecking that to one at a time is so time consuming!
@@MicroFourNerds @JoshCameron Strange that both of you are in Greece. What new thing were you shown that needs to be released as the S1RII? :D Jokes aside, if the review of the Panasonic S9 had been like this Fuji's in terms of criticism, I don’t think there would have been so much media hype. Now, do an honest comparison with the S9 so people can understand. As I said on Josh's channel, I have both the S9 in green and the X100VI in black, and my favorite is still the S9, despite the significant shortcomings compared to the X100VI (tilting screen and lack of viewfinder). But when it comes to actual use, showing a photo from the S9 is on another level compared to the X100VI. I think that if Panasonic had done things right, it would be at the very top. They were too focused on lowering the price, but in 2024, that's not what matters. In 2024, it's the quality of the component choices that counts (even though the S9 is very good). But imagine the S9 as it is now, made of magnesium, with real quality buttons and a tilting screen like the A7RV. No need for an EVF, HotShoe, or mechanical shutter-we would have been set. That said, I currently recommend everyone get an S9 + Sigma 45mm f2.8 and 90mm 2.8. It's the perfect combo. This is a message I posted on another channel : To get both the Panasonic S9 and the Fuji X100Vi, despite the beauty of the X100Vi, my preference goes to the S9. Even though it lacks a viewfinder and the screen is not just a tilt but rather on a swivel, I use the S9 with the 45mm f/2.8, and the images are stunning. I had the S5M2 and sold it, and God knows how much I criticized the S9 when it first came out, yet today, I can only say good things about it! I was also a Micro Four Thirds user; I had the GX7, GX8, GX9, G9, and the magnificent 42.5mm 1.2 Nocticron. But truly, the S9 with the 45mm f/2.8 is so compact and changes the game, even though I have great gear at home: Z8/Z6III with 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.2, 135mm f/1.8 Plena, S1R with 50mm f/1.4 S Pro, 24-70mm/70-200mm S Pro f/2.8. But as I write these lines, my heart goes to the S9. Maybe the Leica Q3 will win me over (though it’s bigger and heavier), but the price is obviously not the same. I say it's worth trying!
Fuji should have updated the lens to be weather sealed without the extra filter this time. If its impossible ( i don't think so👀) or its going to cost a lot on its compactness, understandable,. But then they should have included it in box to be fare for that amount of money and waiting time they are asking form us.
I own an old fuji x20 and it may just be my favourite everyday, travel camera , i have lots of m43 cameras but the x20 shoots better pics than any of them, 95 percent of the pics are great it has a built in 28-112 f2.0-2.8 lens and is very compact, i have a em5 mk2 with a 14-45 and 35-100 lens i used for travel but the fuji just takes much better pics, super happy with it, cons, its only 12 mega pixels, but you wouldnt know looking at the pics....
The lens hood might be negotiable (although for a "premium" package on a fixed-lens camera it really should be included), but the charger is essential. No, I don't give a damn if it's USB A, B, C, or D (when that day comes). Just because you have a generic charger at home and a compatible cable just happily lying around from something else, doesn't mean the damn thing shouldn't come with one in the box. Your name isn't Karen yet!
Panasonic should release a mft camera maybe a gx9ii with the g9 senso, imagine it with the Leica 15mm 1.7 and having LUMIX lab with a lut button like the s9
The battery is a problem. The X100VI would benefit from the larger battery found in the XT4 and beyond. The problem is the body would have to be expanded. So the old 126s battery is alright. I have several of these batteries and replacements are inexpensive. True about the charger. This complaint is true for the industry. The manufacturers are giving us USBC charging cables and you are on your own for a charger. As you suggest, we are paying a lot for the camera. Give us a charger! True for the filter to make the body weather resistant and a lens hood. True about the 2.5mm microphone jac. But at least there is a microphone jac as opposed to LUMIX GX80(85)/9. The GX8 I think also has the 2.5mm jac. Nobody is buying the X100VI as a blogging camera. For video clips or B roll this body will hold it’s own. The dongle is inexpensive but I keep loosing them. Just give us a regular 3.5mm jac for the microphone. I just purchased a X100VI. It is a narrow camera. I use it for street and as an EDC camera. I’d like a zoom lens from 28-70. Never going to happen. I’d like a lens update. Not only the noice. There is a new 40MP sensor so we need an improved lens to fully resolve the sensor. We now have video features we are going to use. A class three memory card slot is needed. And of course a new battery. Either make the body bigger or develop a new battery for this camera. I took my new X100VI on a spin Saturday. Had a lot of fun with it. I’m going to NYC next month for a week of street photography. Was planning on bringing the X100VI. I’m having second thoughts about that. I’m thinking of taking the GX9 with the PL15 and 35-100/2.8 lenses instead. Smaller. Lighter. More fun than my new X100VI. I love the GX9 so much I just purchased a backup. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
It’s still just the out of camera jpg that is drawing me towards Fujifilm, but the price difference to the gx models with a 20mm, 15mm or 14mm is way to much to convince me 😅 maybe some day when the hype is gone and there are reasonably priced second hand models available
Though if they included the charger and extra stuff in the box, the price would be even higher still! A camera like this I'd probably charge exclusively with USB.
Please don't mention the GM5.... I missed an opportunity to get one at a very compelling price..... and I've regreted it ever since (MPB doesn't work where I'm at)
A weather sealed GX9 MK II would be a no brainer for Panasonic to answer Fuji.
Totally agree, I was really hoping for it, and was disappointed to hear they’re not making anymore gx cameras.
I really don’t get why Panasonic is not going for it. A new GX model and perhaps a new LX100 iii would be so good… but it seems they are leaning more to full frame models
You are right. The GX8 is weather sealed, but a little bit bigger.
Exactly that. And think of all those lovely little MFT primes you could stick on the front.
@@kevine7414 is there really any official announcement about no more gx?
This camera has been on my mind for so long and I was so happy to see this in my subscription feed. Thank you for the wonderful video and yes please to another video stating alternatives for this camera. I don't want to break my bank just to join the trend with everyone saying how immaculate this camera is (well during its initial release with the internet dubbing it as its favourite camera).
The smile on your face while you were using the camera tells me everything I need to know. Enjoyed the review.
I had the X100V and sold it. Couldn’t get on with it. I now have a GX9 and love it. Really underrated EDC camera IMHO
Not overhyped (the camera is just not for me), and you are not too critical - your critique looks/sounds spot-on and very reasonable to me.
Excellent review look forward to your comparison video on other cameras 📸!
Your review is very well thought out. For me, it was just a good reminder of how much I love my E-M1 mark iii. It fits my needs perfectly, and I’ve no need to go looking elsewhere.
Great review. I ordered the X100VI on April 4th, got the camera today, August 20th. Can't wait to take pictures.
I found the ibis from the Ricoh extremely good. I shoot 1/4th second out of hand at night and it’s perfectly sharp
I was just about to add a comment/question about what would you suggest as a more reasonably priced alternative and then said you would soon in another video! Well done balanced review!
I'll stick with my Panasonic gx9 and 20mm.
Agreed, I think the GX9 is a superb EDC camera, although I prefer the PL 15mm f1.7.
@@robertavery8002 I also love the 15mm, but it's a little too wide for my EDC.
Yep, a superb camera
This is a great alternative!
Youre simply wrong
I’ve seen a lot of videos on this camera but you’re the first I’ve seen that thought to film the viewfinder and the mode switching. Kudos.
Thank you! It was so hard to do 😂 I tried everything from a macro lens to a wide angle lens and in the end, my phone did a better job. Sorry it isn't better quality but hopefully you get the idea 😁
Great review, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Very fair evaluation. Finally got my in July from an order placed 12 hours after orders were allowed.
Wow that's a heck of a wait! Hope you're enjoying it ☺️
Can't wait for the next video, talking about similar specs / results for same or lower budget.
The RRP in Australia (around $2k USD) is still crazy IMO. Don’t even get me started on the limited edition vwrwion
i just think of it as a Digital film camera, then you don't notice the perceived short comings.
The lens making that noise and being "slow" to search for focus is exactly the reason why I sold my Lumix 20mm lens...
That lens is a bit of a hunter isn't it!
Enjoy!!! 😁
It does sound like a Dalek 🤣 perfect description
Love my M50 for street. I have several other Fuji camera's but the M50 easily holds its own, although those Fuji colours...!!?
one alternative is the Leica Q3 😁🤣😂
To use this camera is more satisfying for me than every AF camera I used before (in 40 years+).
very excited for a comparison in terms of budget!
Coming Thursday 19th sept 👌😁
Hi Emily
I would add a criticism about the Fuji: no weather sealing.
@@richardhale9664 I agree with you. You have to pay to have weather sealing.
Three points:-
It's a trade off which IMO Fujifilm got right
Other than that, I think your criticisms and observations of the camera are spot on.
Super Video! Thank you!
What a wait! Yes I think the open gate feature is so good on the x-s20!
I just got the X-T50 for much the same reason. It is very much like the x100vi, but with interchangeable lenses. Plus I could get it right away!
That viewfinder is something I feel like I would be paying for, but not using.
Cheers from Bangkok ( am from USA but I retired here)
Same way lumix dropping the ball on the s9. Wish companies would stop making bad photo cameras in an effort to attract video people.
Very nice in-depth take on this very popular camera. Just last week I met a new guy at my work who happens to have a mark V.. and I just found a great price on a Lumix lx10 and had to grab that one for my own tiny camera stash. Just for fun we're going to go do some walking around photography and trade cameras I think though I'll probably try to sneak in him my Olympus EM1 Mark III to try as well
Status camera...but if you have spare coins go for it...a GX9 with 20mm will be my top pick
I’m happy with my OM5 and 12-45 f4 pro. Weathersealed and light.
The IBIS is the key for me!! I shoot a lot at LV +4, so the IBIS would be most helpful to allow me to keep the ISO somewhat low.
And maybe one of these days an X100VI will be available somewhere on this planet for its retail price...
The colours are so nice, definitely better than my PenF and all the mFT Cameras I used.
great video! A question, for SOOC photography, how would you compare it to Lumix s9? And which one do you prefer?
I actually made a video about this recently 😊 it was comparing the s9 to the x100v, but the recipe function is the same in the x100vi.

I’m glad I got one; I got extremely lucky finding one as I called my camera store to find out how long the waiting list was and was told “we have one hear now, would you like it?”
I grabbed it…!
What would I change for the next version? I’d want a weather sealed lens so no need for additional mounts and filters, I’d want a much much quicker and accurate autofocus too! Other than that not much else… oh, yes, and add a charger in the box Fuji!
🏴
Enjoy your X100VI… Best wishes.
Still waiting for my X100VI, but thanks for the great preview.
I have enjoyed an lx100 ii which includes all the features you talk about
x100vi motor ASMR. I thought I was watching a GXAce video for a second. ;)
Make a 10 hour loop?
how do the x100vi compare to the OM PEN E-P7, which have and love?
I love mine too.
I would love to see the camera alternatives for the fujifilm x100vi!! Damn this is an expensive camera!
I was after an X100V then I found a mint GX9 + PL 15 1,7 + PL 25 1,4 for € 950, easy choice
Love the colour, image quality and build style that I see from Fuji, but on my budget even used, whatever the model, the prices are still ouch!
Was this filmed in the UK? If so, where?
I have no issue with no charger. We’ve all got a thousand usb c cables and plugs kicking about. That being said, running multiple batteries is annoying if you have to charge the battery in camera.
On that basis, I wish camera manufacturers would adopt the on board usb c port on the batteries that third party manufacturers offer. I’ve got SmallRig batteries for my X-H2 - don’t even use the genuine one. Sadly the Newell one I bought for my OM-1.2 pretty much bricks it, so I imagine there’s a way to go before they become commonplace.
Nice cam but i'm still waiting for the GX9II with micro jack...☝️😁
Me too! Haha
I opted for xt5 with 27mm f2.8. Having previously owned the x100f/v
also, the older cameras had the zoom feature in JPG mode with in camera upscaling!
You don’t need to assign a button for the ND filter. If you hold the evf/ovf lever down it turns on/off the ND filter.
I know, it's just easier to access with the button 😊 I can never find the lever as easily
How about a review of the Leica D-Lux 8? It’s got a m4/3 sensor.
Though shutter drag looks nicer on the non IBIS cameras, I find 😊
Beautiful camera...destined to be a classic.
I'm still holding out for a Pen F ii
I value interchangeable lenses, weather sealing, and a new price under $2k.
I must say, I think Fuji are capitalising on the hype at the moment, and even though they are undoubtedly beautiful and very fun to use, I don’t think you can justify the price for this 🥲
Great overview and insights as always 🎉
Yeah, I mean I get usb c is a thing, but you're going to want multiple batteries for this camera in my experience! And bottlenecking that to one at a time is so time consuming!
@@MicroFourNerds @JoshCameron Strange that both of you are in Greece. What new thing were you shown that needs to be released as the S1RII? :D
Jokes aside, if the review of the Panasonic S9 had been like this Fuji's in terms of criticism, I don’t think there would have been so much media hype.
This is a message I posted on another channel :
To get both the Panasonic S9 and the Fuji X100Vi, despite the beauty of the X100Vi, my preference goes to the S9.
Thanks Fuji (or EU) for being real about the dozens of charging cables in our homes. No cables is a plus for me.
Only ever had the mk1, great images with just 12MP, but autofocus was its down fall. That and I hated the fixed focal length all the time.
I was wondering why this camera was so popular! They can have it and its squeaky focus. It’d drive me mad! Give me a quiet Olympus any time.

It’s still just the out of camera jpg that is drawing me towards Fujifilm, but the price difference to the gx models with a 20mm, 15mm or 14mm is way to much to convince me 😅 maybe some day when the hype is gone and there are reasonably priced second hand models available
xt30mII or xt50 with some 3r party batteries and good to go.
Though if they included the charger and extra stuff in the box, the price would be even higher still! A camera like this I'd probably charge exclusively with USB.
Please don't mention the GM5.... I missed an opportunity to get one at a very compelling price..... and I've regreted it ever since (MPB doesn't work where I'm at)
The focus sound😂
