Mikael's growls in this piece (this album) are the first time I actually liked growling in any song at all! Fit perfectly. I would probably not listen to a whole album of growls, but when used as a "spice"! Yes, please! :-) My another favorite is Jinjer's Pisces.
It's funny, I've been listening to the album stream, and when I heard the growls, I was like "that sounds like Mikael". Then I scrolled down to the comments, and it all made sense.
I used to feel this way about harsh vocals, too. I liked 'em, but only when it fit that part of the song, that intensity. The rabbit hole welcomed me in when I started finding whole songs where harsh vocals felt appropriate. Where The Slime Live by Morbid Angel is a pretty damn catchy track for a death metal song if you'd like a good entry point. Cheers.@@talaniel
Being a huge fan of Opeth, i love Mikael's death growl. I also love how selectively it was used for this album. It definitely amplifies the fear for the memory.

It's interesting to me as someone with DID because this entire album is actually a PERFECT way to briefly describe what DID is like to someone who doesn't have it. Hell, this particular song is a perfect way to describe the PTSD flashbacks and sudden trauma memories coming flooding back all at once and just how.... overwhelming it gets.
I have DID too and I gotta say you're completely correct. I wish it was more popular, considering how relatively common DID in modern society. People need to hear it. It's insanely comforting to have your own life experiences related to you by a stranger.

Just watched some Puddles Pity Party videos and his voice is incredibly identical to (I forget his name's) voice at the beginning before Akerfeldt comes in. Human Equation Pt 2 with Puddles in on the project?? Lol just dreaming but it would be very cool and fitting for his style as well.
Wow how on earth did i never notice mikael was in this album?! as a huge opeth fan i feel hugely ashamed that i never noticed his voice and growls until now ;(
I could've sworn this song had a longer intro, but I can't seem to find the longer version anywhere. At this point I'm not even sure if it ever existed.
If I remember correctly this was a double CD with the first 11 songs on the first disc, so to keep the track listing on the second disc in theme with the "days" they just put the first 11 tracks of disc two as an intro before track (day) 12 starts.
It's not random at all. He is the Fear emotion. If you read the lyrics synced with the music, his lines make total sense (he is, essentially, trying to make the protagonist, just called "Me", to quit his attempts to awake and just die of guilt for his mother's death, and the other emotions follow suit)
Mikael's growls in this piece are so COOL.

@@pane36 Yeah, when it fits, then ok. I like Jinjer these days - also mix of harsh and clean, and when done correctly, it is a pleasure to listen to.

Mikael Åkerfeldt is always the best choice, whatever he does 😉

this album is a masterpiece. genious.

Dia 12 - Trauma
Você escuta a voz dele, fria e impiedosa

Eric Clayton is a great singer, Saviour Machine
Mikael is the true voice of Fear
I always wondered why the original version would abruptly start and the one on timeline had the extended intro.
I could've sworn this song had a longer intro, but I can't seem to find the longer version anywhere. At this point I'm not even sure if it ever existed.
Sonikku94 It’s hidden in the negative time before the first track on the CD
It has. 11 hidden tracks, so at this song your cd player shows song number 12, not 1
Yeah, they're called "Intro (One through Eleven) to Trauma", and they're about four seconds long each.

not random at all.

I'm a big fan of opeth but I totally don't know Ayreon, has Mikael akerfeldt played with them ? Was he part of the band or just a guest ?
Yeah, he is guest. There is only one permanent member of Ayreon, Arjen. All others are guests.
Fear is very underused character. If only he had got at least as much lines as Passion, this would have been the best album ever.
What do you mean? It is already the best album ever.
He has plenty of lines in the best tracks of the album.
Hard not to listen to the whole album.
This song gives me some serious Black Sabbath vibes.
