      I used to love drawing when I have free time, but now with existence of AI it's really killing my will and my fun, I no longer feel the fun of drawing, I only feel pain like I'm wasting my life drawing manually 😢

    To add to "don't be afraid to fail," I've started sketching with ballpoint pen and forcing myself to finish my thought on paper.
    If I make a mistake, so be it. The important thing is that I dont give up when I do.

    • @mikalemadden1762
      @mikalemadden1762 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      So true. I save so much time when I eliminate erasing and redrawing by using a pen. It doesn't look as good as it could have, but if it's just for practice, and no one's going to see it, who cares?

    • @noddyonlyone3593
      @noddyonlyone3593 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      making mistakes confidently is better than making a pretty picture when practicing. try to draw the best you can, of course, but if you never allow yourself to make mistakes there's no change, only stagnating. recognizing mistakes should be an accomplishment! but we confuse "practicing to get better" with "i need to draw this correctly the first time or else im not improving."

    • @Nierez
      @Nierez 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Fail faster is what I used to tell myself with a ballpoint pen. That when practicing. Otherwise "not giving up" it's important I still have ways. Ball point pen gave me the ability to correct mistakes creatively. I don't have perfect 1 stokes but my search lines are starting to look like part of the piece now.

    This helped me realize what ruined my art. I used to draw like a kid, care free and what ever I wanted but I let criticism from those get to me so I dropped art for years. This got me super depressed. I’m picking art back up now, and I’m much happier, I’m still trying to get back to my old childlike mindset.

    I usually get praised in my family for being good at learning languages and I have to be honest I didn’t even practice I just observed what people did. This proves that even when you’re bored you should just watch people draw and learn it works so well

    All good advices!
    Personally, what really helped at the beginning was to understand that NO ONE starts knowing how to draw. You need to let loose, try, practice, and aim to each day be better than the previous day, understanding that it's not a straight line up on improvement. Some days you are not all in there and screw up a bit, but you keep grinding, aiming to keep improving, and in time, you inevitably get better.

    100% agree on looking at the proccess rather than the end result. Most of the tricks and techniques that I learnt was mainly through observing other people draw, and by the end of it you get a catalogue of techniques, perspectives, and inisght on what goes on a piece.

    I started to do art in 2019 where I managed to draw my current pfp, but I stopped cuz I kept getting frustrated at every other drawing that I did so I stopped. However, just a few weeks ago, I decided to fully dedicate myself to art as a hobby. This channel is one of the first channels that captivated me to not just look and draw art, but to also observe and study it.

    Great advice as always! I think for anyone not doing art for a living already, the most pertinent point is to make scheduled time for doing art. It’s so easy to never get round to doing anything because of work, chores etc.

    7:27 I cannot stress this point enough
    I remember when I’d always compared my art to other’s, thinking that they’re so much better than me and I’ll never get to their level. But then I was told that whenever you feel like you’re not improving, go over your old work. I was so blinded by time and jealousy that I never saw just how _much_ I improved since when I first started.
    Now every time when I start to get demotivated or I start comparing my work to professionals who’ve been doing art for a whole lot longer than I have, I go back to my old artworks; it’s always a refresher

    Thank you for this video ! I'm sure it will help me to have time to draw and write. I think one good habit I could add to this list is to look at your own art and find two things you like about it and one thing you want to improve. This way you don't get frustrated by only seeing endless flaws and can see your improvement. I sometimes write those thoughts down under the drawing and when I look back at my sketches later on, I can see that the flaws I noticed at this time are not the same I can notice now (because I improved my observation skills and I know I already went over that past flaw). Hope that makes sense and wish you a happy art time!

    Thank you for spending time making videos and sharing all your experiences, it is valuable a lot for some beginner like me, who is learning on my own. I keep my schedule and practice drawing every day, I always record my timelapse and update my progress through social media hoping that someone will notice me and give me some advice about my drawing (like if it is better than before, what I need to focus more on before progress further....) but I'll try to keep it up as a habit. I hope I can keep it up and build my own world, bring out my imagination, and spread it out so everyone can feel it too!

    I thank you for your videos! You helped me so much to get better, to learn art where I couldn't draw a year ago at all, and I really appreciate all the effort you put in your videos. The journey to learn art is really long and really hard, but it doesn't mean it should be frustrating (even if it is sometimes :D). This is one of the bestest! channels I've found really. Of course when you learn you will try to get more information elsewhere, and there will always be questions that will bring you search more by yourself, but this, your videos are always filled with such positive energy that they seem (at least for me) to give me so much motivation so I have to just rush out and make some (not so good) drawings. XD
    I really like the method you use for drawing line art of the character, it's somehow like "drawing in polygons". Splitting all the body parts in shapes, but not cylinders or boxes. Wish there were more lessons on that topic. Love this channel, and your work. Wish you a great day!

    Last year I decided to start taking all kinds of cool classes in the local sort of community education centre thingy, to boost my creativity! So many people didn't understand how that's help with digital art, but knowing how things are made by hand has really helped me approach art in a better way! Last year I took ceramics classes, glass art classes, jewellery making classes, and maybe I tried something else too, hmm.. This autumn my ceramics class sadly got cancelled, because there weren't enough sign ups, but now I'm taking woodworking classes, glass art classes, jewellery making classes, a painting class where we try out different art styles (we did pointillism last time, next time is cubism, and then surrealism, and in the spring there's going to be more styles), there was a short gelli printing class and it was very interesting, and I also signed up for a sewing class 2 weeks ago :D In the spring I also have a short singing workshop coming up, and hopegully some ceramics classes. Sometimes I struggle with my digital art, but at least I'm designing and creating things every week in these classes! (some of the classes are once per month though, but I have some classes every week).
    I feel like all of these hobbies have helped me evolve a lot as an artist, and I actually got through the first round of university entrance exams for game design, and in less than 2 weeks I have round 2! I'm so excited, I feel like I'm on the right path now with all of these creative things going on. Sure, I could just do some of these things at home, but with my ADHD it's much easier to leave the house and go do these things at the same time every week for a certain amount of time. Otherwise I'll just get distracted by my computer..

    Preparing a cup of coffee is a (not so healthy) but effective ritual for me that helps me sit down and draw when I don't really feel like it. I do it because every time I draw I end up enjoying it regardless, but it's hard to start sometimes, that's where having a ritual like listening to music, preparing coffee or mixing whatever you enjoy can help you do that. I don't recommend going down the coffee road because it's easy to abuse ends up fucking you up instead, then it's really hard to get out. If you balance things with exercise every day you might get away with it tho

    Maybe not a TH-cam friendly request but I'm wondering how to draw guts and organs. I'm making a action series and even if I'm not trying to draw gore at all I'd like to add a bit of realism when characters get badly wounded. Thanks !

    Whoever posts on instagram I really recommend mostly following other amateur or beginning artists. Like their posts regularly. They're more likely to see and interact with your account which has better odds keeping you in the algorithm. You can't expect others to follow your account if you don't even follow people in your own skill range

      How do you find other amateur artists? I only really get super popular artists in my algorithm.

      @@tsunami1707 There are certain tags like #inktober or #dtiys that amateurs tend to participate in or if you want to tell me your instagram account I might be able to help

    It is very true about making art for yourself and keeping it private. In 2017 I went deep with Instagram and slowly I would make art for likes and others. Always have a bunch of art private, and always create for an audience of one, you.
