The baseball scene itself is one of the greatest sports scenes in a movie ever. Getting all of those announcers together was brilliant and so funny. Just like Airplane, I have watched this movie so many times. Thanks for talking about it!

"Drugs...drugs..." "Nurse! Get this man some drugs! Can't you see he's in pain?" "No...no...heroin Frank, heroin..." "That's a pretty tall order, Nordberg. You'll have to give me a couple of days on that one."
I had the honor of meeting Leslie Nielsen about a year before he passed. We talked about his time on these films and he told me that the most fun he has ever had as an actor was during the filming of the baseball scenes during the first film! He was smiling as he even just talked about it! He was a truly sweet man and I will never forget my encounter with him! Oh, and I can’t believe Minty did not mention that Weird Al actually had a cameo in all 3 Naked Gun movies!!!! 😊
Yes he was the robber in the police station in #2 when Frank walks in and slams the door on Weird Al knocking him out "Great WORK Frank!" "What?" And Weird Al & Vanna White had their clothes stolen at the Academy Awards!
My wife met him in the 80s, she was in her 20s and he was playing in a ProAm golf tournament in Houston. She picked him up at the airport and drove him to the hotel, well he used his fart machine during the drive there and then tried to embarrass her when she dropped him off at the hotel with the same fart machine.

Very true. Nobody, and I mean nobody, could say such hilarious lines in such a totally deadpan way (there's a reason his "Don't call me Shirley" line from Airplane is so classic) and actually get away with it.

Zucker is right in not wanting a comedian in the role, because a comedian's natural instinct is go for the biggest laugh from their POV, sometimes to the point of one-upping the initial humor written to where the original joke becomes lost, overextended or strained. The key to Leslie Nielsen's performance as Lt. Frank Drebin is that he plays is it straight and deliver's ridiculous, silly lines with serious, dramatic conviction. He doesn't overact, or over-play the line. He reads it straight. Like that exchange with Nordberg in the hospital where Nordberg's trying to give Frank clues about what he uncovered that led to his hospitalization, where Nordberg mentions "drugs." Frank responds by urging the nursing staff to "give this man some drugs, can't you see he's in pain?!" With sincere concern in his voice. Then when Nordberg tries to clarify that he's talking about "heroin", Frank turns to him without betraying his genuine concern for his friend and says, "that's a tall order, Nordberg. You'll have to give me a few days on that one." Sure there are a few 4th wall breaking moments, but the main thing that makes Frank Drebin work is how seriously Leslie Nielsen (a non-comedic dramatic actor) portrays him in such an otherwise silly, absurd environment.
Highly agree. He brings us into 'his world', and George Kennedy and all as well. They've done all this before in one way or another, and to them it's just another case to solve. Nobody raises an eyebrow when Drebin almost gets run over by his own car, or says Nordberg's welcomed back when he recovers - unless he's a drooling vegetable, but that's just common sense... Just another day on the force with Police Squad is all. Hard at work, yet hardly working. :)

Loved the short lived TV series this was based on Police Squad as well as this. The Zucker Brothers are comedic genisus and Leslie Nielsen delivery always cracks me up.
It's great to see so many people sharing their fond memories of this film. I really hope there is never a reboot or continuation, Nielsen can't be matched.

It's a timeless classic that never gets old along with many films made in the 80s & 90s whilst only a handful of movies made within 20 years are timeless classics.
My Mother used to giggle so much at these movies. I loved Airplane and then more Leslie Nielsen movies. She knew him as a serious dramatic actor, so his comedic roles especially tickled her. Thanks, Minty.
I do recall a Naked Gun 4 or a reboot of some type getting mentioned afew times and the title you mentioned would actually work. If it were to happen I think Ed Helms or Jason Sudeikis would be perfect in the lead role. The story would follow Pricsilla Pressley coming back as Jane being a single mom after her husband aka Frank Drebin Nielsons character passed away. She would have two sons who had become grown adults over all these years since the third film and Jason Sudeikis and Ed Helms would partner up as the Drebin brothers in police squad and follow in there fathers footsteps to solve crimes and track down a killer. They would be so funny together and I'm laughing just thinking about a reboot happening with them in it.
Priscilla Presley absolutely nailed the part. I recently rewatched and it was amazing how she nailed the role. Maybe she was the biggest beneficiary of the 40 takes.
MINTY, for more of Nielsen, I also highly reccomend "Airplane." For me, this was also Lloyd Bridges' best role. My favourite Nielsed flick is, "Repossessed," also starring Linda Blair. Yes, her. OMFGs, it's funny.
No one would ever fill Lesley Nielsen shoes in the Naked Gun films, he was a one of type of comic genius and the only comic I know of that can do comic scenes with a straight face. Sadly missed but never will be forgotten
Thanks for this, Minty! I still laugh when I re-watch Naked Gun - love the shared clumsiness and obliviousness of Drebin and Jane! Amusing to me too, my grandmother was a total Peyton Place fan. I remember the neighborhood ladies tittering and sighing over "that handsome new doctor", played by Nielson, which as a small child, I ignored. Then decades later - the tear-away suit scene and - damn! The man kept it together! lol
“A good cop, needlessly cut down and ambushed by some cowardly hoodlum. ” - Frank D “That’s no way for a man to die.” - Ed “Ah, you’re right, Ed. A parachute not opening… that’s a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine… having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that’s the way I wanna go!” - Frank
The Naked Gun and Baseketball; EASILY my two favorite comedies!! My friends and I quote those to this day as they are timeless! I actually remember watching Police Squad when I was in grade school. I loved it! Leslie Neilsen and Lloyd Bridges were comic geniuses! I went to see The Naked Gun three times in the theater back in '88; it got better each time!! Thanks for the laughs, Leslie!!
I don’t think Straight man is the correct term you’re looking for there. He plays it dry for the most part but he provides nonstop slapstick and zany one liners. if anything George Kennedy was the straight man setting up Nielsen’s goofiness.

Aaron Burr Atwood Really? Thought it was just a phrase they made up for a movie title! Thanks for the info.......................and ignore this Master NU douchebag.
Yeah he was great and so was Robert Goulet in part 2 as the main villian and I thought he looked familiar because after pulling my hair out for nearly an hour trying to remember what else he was in I finally remembered he was one of the relatives in Beetlejuice. Small role for him in that but nonetheless he was in it.
Fun fact...did you know Tarantino actually wanted Ricardo Mantalban to play Esteban for Kill Bill part 2? That would've amazing and I'm not sure but I think he also offered him the role of Bill. As Bill forget it Mantalban would've been off the charts astounding in the role. I can see him nailing it in every way shape and form from his expressions to the way he talks and the whole nine.
Thank you for giving us all the info on our favorite movies! It has really made me think more about how these great movies ever really make it to the top of box office hits.
I like his appearance in the third one, where he's for some reason walking the red carpet at the Oscars with "Wheel of Fortune" hostess Vanna White. It's random to see the two of them together, but it for some reason becomes more hilarious when Frank and Jane steal their clothes to get inside.
A reboot or remix will never live up to the originals. I also don’t believe anyone could fill his shoes. I love all the movies Leslie Nielsen played in. He is Gone but never forgotten. RIP and thank you for everything you gave us.
The only gag I never got was shortly after the “nice beaver” comment, he complements her on her ankle bracelet and she says “Oh, did it slip down there again?”
I absolutely loved the tv series. It was the kind of show you could watch over and over always laughing at the same gags and finding new stuff to laugh at that you missed the first time. I firmly believe that the show would've been a major ratings hit if it had been given a chance. TV networks are run by idiots.
All three of those movies make me laugh until I can't breathe. They will NEVER get old. So many quotable lines and scenes. When the speaker has bored everyone to sleep and he gives him the romance novel destroyed me 😂. And when he comes up from diving, sniffs and the sign behind him says for god's sake don't swim here. Are u kidding me?? Remembering these movies has given me life. Thanks Minty!
I get what they were saying about having to 'think' to get the jokes. In a sense this movie is so brilliant, because you simply HAVE to watch numerous times in order to catch the gags, particularly the visuals in the background!! My favourite film of all time, and I will never tire of watching it.
1:31 Fun fact: on American television, this line was edited from “Nice beaver!” to “Nice one.” Yeah, just doesn’t have the same appeal. Anyways this film and its sequels are personal favorites. The comedy spoof genre, in my opinion, is owned by Mel Brooks and the Zucker brothers. No one else has ever come close to their level of genius and hilarity. I truly miss these kinds of comedies.
Hey Minty! Been watching your videos for a while. When it comes to movies we are definitely kindred spirits. Your videos basically recount my childhood list of movies, lol! Keep up the good work!
I saw Leslie Nielsen's one. He was a villian who buried Ted Danson's character, and his girlfriend, up to their heads in the sand, and waited for the waves to kill them. Then they come back as zombies and attack Nielsen's character.
Ricardo Montalbán also famously played Mr. Roarke on the television series Fantasy Island. I also remember watching when some of the crew of the third Naked Gun movie were doing the talk show circuit to promote the movie. At one point, when things were opened up in a Q&A session with the audience, one audience member asked if there would be a 4th Naked Gun movie, in which one of the movie's crew humorously commented that if there was, it would be titled "Naked Gun 4: Beating a Dead Horse."

Mark please consider one of the other parodies this team made Top Secret...that one was brilliant...even if i do get strange looks form others when i say that*
@J Dial *have it on both vhs (yeah, i'm ancient) and dvd where the commentary was so funny*
What phoney dog poo?
bone dry humor like the chalk drawings from victims of an explosion on several surfaces like elevator door and looking into a trash can and saying o you mist one
That's why I loved Charlie Brooker's police show, "A Touch Of Cloth".
Top Secret was so dang funny. Time to go watch it again 😆🙃
Hi Mark, I really enjoy watching your videos. I have severe chronic lower back and neck pain. Most nights I can't sleep because of my chronic pain. I binge watch your videos when I can't sleep. Watching your videos helps me forget about my chronic pain. Thank you for making your videos.
He should go man in the iron mask
Loved the short lived TV series this was based on Police Squad as well as this. The Zucker Brothers are comedic genisus and Leslie Nielsen delivery always cracks me up.
I loved the "freeze frame" end credits on the show. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@randellgoering1014 Yes they cracked me up so much. 😂
@@randellgoering1014 I had forgotten about the freeze frames. Didn't one freeze while someone was pouring coffee? The coffee kept pouring.
@@calvinkatt662 yes! Another one had a monkey crawling around. I think the set fell down around them. Lol
"Hey! The missing evidence in the Kelner case! My God, he really was innocent!"
"He went to the chair two years ago, Frank"
It's great to see so many people sharing their fond memories of this film. I really hope there is never a reboot or continuation, Nielsen can't be matched.
Why would you care if it's remade?
@@christheghostwriter Because remakes are just Hollywood's way of being lazy, trying to cash in on old ideas, instead of creating new things.
@@darthphayde508 The Wizard of Oz was a remake. Scarface was a remake. The Departed was a remake. Cape Fear was a remake. There's nothing inherently wrong with remakes, and I find your comments to be lazy criticism.
But my question remains unanswered: why would you care if this is remade? How would it affect your life in any way?
@@darthphayde508 That's it in a nutshell!

I'm sorry I can't hear ya. Don't fire the gun while you're talking...
Great to see some love on The Naked Gun. Thanks for this.
If they make a sequel I hope they call it Son of a Gun from the files of naked Gun
AHOTHER movie you are making me rewatch to satisfy my nostalgia. Great pick as usual
Priscilla Presley absolutely nailed the part. I recently rewatched and it was amazing how she nailed the role. Maybe she was the biggest beneficiary of the 40 takes.
Awesome channel. I always enjoy your videos. You do a great job with these.
MINTY, for more of Nielsen, I also highly reccomend "Airplane." For me, this was also Lloyd Bridges' best role. My favourite Nielsed flick is, "Repossessed," also starring Linda Blair. Yes, her. OMFGs, it's funny.
surly you must be joking
@@brodieroomojo " I never joke and don't call me Shirlie"
Missed fact: 'Weird' Al Yankovic would go on the write and perform the title song to the Leslie Nielsen movie Spy Hard.
That’s a horrible song. And a catchy one.
I’ve heard that song. It’s quite good from what I remember, and it was a fun satire of 60s Bond titles, mainly Thunderball.
nice beaver
thank you, I just had it stuffed
Best. Line. EVER !!!
Didn t hurt that Priscilla had great legs in that scene either.
YUM !!😛
It's not that funny...
One of my favorite lines from the movie lol 😂
No one would ever fill Lesley Nielsen shoes in the Naked Gun films, he was a one of type of comic genius and the only comic I know of that can do comic scenes with a straight face. Sadly missed but never will be forgotten
Ludwig: "Cigarette?"
Frank: "Yes, I know."
Frank: "Cigarette?"
Jane: "Yes, I know."
Great trilogy. Greatness. So many one liners and background gags. Thier commentary for the films is great as well. I recommend it.
I STILL watch Police Squad ♡ I own the whole series and all the Naked Gun films. The best $ i have spent in ages!
The man kept it together! lol
8:53 Ricardo Montalban in “The Planet on Apes” as Armando (1971-1972). 🤗❤️
Awesome video Minty! Seth MacFarlane talked about making a reboot with Liam Neeson. I think that's a good idea
“A good cop, needlessly cut down and ambushed by some cowardly hoodlum. ” - Frank D
“That’s no way for a man to die.” - Ed
“Ah, you’re right, Ed. A parachute not opening… that’s a way to die. Getting caught in the gears of a combine… having your nuts bit off by a Laplander, that’s the way I wanna go!” - Frank
“ Could have been a roaming gang of thugs, a jealous lover or an angry husband.”
Neilsen ended up being one of the greatest straight men ever in the history of comedy.
As opposed to being one of the greatest bent men in comedy.
Sethra Lavode dude, you’re better than that
I don’t think Straight man is the correct term you’re looking for there. He plays it dry for the most part but he provides nonstop slapstick and zany one liners. if anything George Kennedy was the straight man setting up Nielsen’s goofiness.
One of my favorite movies of all time...I can watch and watch like once a week. Never gets old
MINTYYYYYYYY! LOVE THE NAKED GUN VIDEO!
Can you do the "Hot Shots" movies!? Thanks bro!
I love the Hot Shots and Naked Gun movies, the best movies ever made.
Hey Minty, sorry for not commenting in a while. RL has been a pain. My husband, roommate and I are HUGE fans of the Police Squad TV show, and the movies of the naked gun series. We absolutely adore the sight-gags, and humor Leslie Neilson brings to the movies. As always, thank you very very much for doing these. They are an absolute treasure to me, and I really appreciate you and all the work you do.
The term “naked gun” actually refers to a gun with its serial number ground off. Like criminals use and like when the cops plant a gun on someone.
Don't listen to him, Aaron, I care!
@Master NU Thank you for feeling like you can speak for the rest of us.
Aaron Burr Atwood Really? Thought it was just a phrase they made up for a movie title! Thanks for the info.......................and ignore this Master NU douchebag.
@Master NU I do care. speak for yourself you loser.
Oh thanks, I never knew this!
Another classic. Well done Minty, you the man😁👍
"Nice beaver"
"Thanks...I just had it stuffed"
Still one of my favorite Leslie Neisen movies. Too many funny moments, and quotable lines. Thanks Minty.
0:51 The incredibly beautiful*..oh and thanks for the laughs(and the Creeps!) Leslie! RIP
I was literally at the cash register at Walmart, buying the trilogy of these movies when you dropped this video! Great timing!!!
Ricardo Montalban was a legend!! His spoof villain is just as great as his serious one.
“Weird Al” Yankovic makes a cameo in all 3 movies.
Should we tell Minty that there's no h at the end of Al's last name?
The pronunciation in some countries would be Yankovic(h), but yes, that is not the way Al uses it.
@@pettee1979 ... Yup, such as Milosevic.
I like his appearance in the third one, where he's for some reason walking the red carpet at the Oscars with "Wheel of Fortune" hostess Vanna White. It's random to see the two of them together, but it for some reason becomes more hilarious when Frank and Jane steal their clothes to get inside.
@@JW...-oj5iw Yeah, he mispronounced Matt Groening's name too.
My late dad and i loved these movies. Watched them countless times and always laughing in tears :)
That OJ Simpson is one funny guy! He kills me!
DERP!
NORDBURG!
IUD....
It was up her fadge
@@galaxyhero81 I always saw it as it was on her wrist.
Thanks Minty. We all needed that.
One of he Greatest comedy series !
I absolutely loved the tv series. It was the kind of show you could watch over and over always laughing at the same gags and finding new stuff to laugh at that you missed the first time.
I firmly believe that the show would've been a major ratings hit if it had been given a chance. TV networks are run by idiots.
I grew up watching Police Squad - so when Naked Gun came along I was already hooked -and I still love it!
- "Shurely you arent serious?"
"I am serious, and dont call me Shirley."
Vielen Dank für Deine Arbeit. Es ist immer wieder eine Freude Deine Videos zu schauen. Viele Grüße aus Repelen (GER)
I loved this movie - need to watch it again :)
Thanks Minty! This is one of my favorite comedies. In gonna go watch it now!
4:07, that opening scene was hilarious and the first opening was funny as well.
Love this channel. It's a regular part of my youtubing every week. Keep it up Minty!
"and given the current state of the World right now, we could all do a good laugh right now"... You are so right
All three of those movies make me laugh until I can't breathe. Thanks Minty!
aNOTHER great one Minty!!
Without the "nice beaver" line and the scene where Drebin is hanging from the statue's dick, the TV edit is unwatchable.
Hey Minty! Been watching your videos for a while. When it comes to movies we are definitely kindred spirits. Your videos basically recount my childhood list of movies, lol! Keep up the good work!
The Naked Gun features two guys who starred in two of the Creepshow movies.
Well spotted!
wird al is in all 3 naked gun movies
I can hold my breath for a loooong time, lol!
I saw Leslie Nielsen's one.
He was a villian who buried Ted Danson's character, and his girlfriend, up to their heads in the sand, and waited for the waves to kill them.
Then they come back as zombies and attack Nielsen's character.
Yes. Leslie Nielsen was in Creepshow 1 and George Kennedy was in Creepshow 2. I caught that years ago
Well said. One of my all time favorites! I hope the genre comes back too.
I guess Like a Midget at an Urinal Minty had to step up on this one
Love these type of comedy movies, Naked Gun, Air Plane are movies you can just rewatch over and over again.
I love Leslie Nielsen so much!
The first time I ever heard of Leslie Neilson was a Don Knotts movie The Reluctant Astronaut in 1966. He played a rather serious role as an astronaut.
Gorbachev's boast "I have the Americans believing I am a nice guy. In some of their polls, I am more popular than their President!" has always stuck with me over the years :D.
Showed this movie to my daughters 16 and 8 a few day ago. Loved it
The best line in The Naked Gun was "Bingo."
There were far too many to choose a single best.
That line was delivered perfectly, wasn't funny until he picked up the bingo card and then it hits you. The Zuckers were good at that kind of thing.
Love your channel. Easy going, fun and well researched content. Keep up the great work!
the scene frank is shooting his own car still has me laughing!!
I'm also a massive film fan love 70s 80s 90s horror mainly only discovered your channel about 3 months ago and the work you do is amazing spends hours at night watching your stuff 👏 spent years watching cinema snob /Dekker shado /Brebdon tenold /video game nerd and one of my favs Dr wolfula but your show gives something more not the riff review style but actual interesting stuff that even if we as fans know some of the facts we still come away entertained . Leslie Nielsen has a fart joke on his gravestone.
Such a classic! I remember laughing at this more than I thought I ever could.
"Drugs, Frank. Drugs!"
"Nurse, quick, give this man some drugs!"
"No, no... Heroin, Frank. Heroin!"
"Nordburg, that's a pretty tall order. You're going to have to give me a little time on that one..." 😜 😝
(something like that anyway!) 😂
Love the channel and the behind the scenes but as a movie buff look into more serious films, classes from the 1960's/1970's. Serious themed films. Love the channel.👍👍
Naked Gun and the Mel Brooks movies were so far ahead of their time and the attention to detail and added background jokes even back then were genius.
Yes been waiting for this one a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need Major League now!
The Naked Gun franchise was hilarious, Great job Minty!
