I’ve got the TSP kit with the high compression head (I ride 5,000 ft +) on my 2021 TX300i and it’s amazing how smooth the power delivery is. The bike immediately sounds different on startup, I would describe it as a more refined sound if that makes any sense. The power is thicker and stronger in the low to mid range, but there is no perceptible hit when the power valve begins to open. It feels like an electric motor, just a constant smooth increase in power. I have not installed the air screw mod. No need as it idles perfect and is super crisp on the bottom end. TSP says 80% of the people who install their kits report no need to do the air screw mod.
I've tried both on my KTM. The TSP head makes the bike feel electric. Much easier to ride IMO. The RK Tek head had a hit when the power valve opened. Pretty fun if you're in good shape and can hold on.
Thanks for keeping it short and sweet. Perhaps when you get the medium comp you can show us in which scenario's they differ and how🤘. Keep the content coming.
Love the vids Rich! Just a suggestion, it wouldn’t hurt to throw up some sound deadening in your recording room, would cut down on the echo and up the production value a smidge!
Do you have compression numbers from stock vs the TSP head? Is the TSP "low" compression head actually lower compression than (or roughly the same as) stock, or just low when compared to their medium and high compression options?

I put a TSP high compression head/ecu reflash on my 2020 250xc-w and air screw at 70 hours on bike. My stock bike ran great with air screw at 5 turns out. I found when I started bike after install I needed to turn idle screw in to bring idle up or it would stall and very rich down low. After messing with idle screw I founded getting it to point of to lean then turning it back in a little to richen up idle and adjusting air screw to 3 turns out now my bike flat out rips hard now. Still super smooth but big difference between map 1 and 2. It works and uses more fuel and oil it seems but who cares. Best feeling 250 2 stroke I have road carb or TPI. Very highly recommended so far with 2 hours but do Recommend messing with air screw and idle screw to get the most out of it. Also adjust powervalve to what TSP recommends which I had mine set to what they recommend before I installed kit anyways.
Hello Rich, great vid and info as usual :) I am a new rider currently getting time on bikes on trails here in the UK and doing some enduro with the aim of doing some enduro/hard enduro over the next few years. Rich.Heres hoping that you'r going to disclose the compression numbers between the stock and aftermarket low, med and high head options.Heres a wild guess,160 psi with the aftermarket low comp head showcased in this vid?.
Great video man! Thinking of doing it to my bike.I was just wondering weather Id have to change the computer flash in the future id I decide to go for a different head, or is the flashing a one time thing only
There was nothing wrong with my 2021 ktm 300 I wanted the tsp kit for the extra oil ratio etc, and man did it make a massive difference was very surprised and happy with it
Rich - Love the videos! Question - I did the throttle screw mod and it made a big difference on my KTM300XC 2020. On this mod you did - is there a set position they recommend on power valve, etc or do you have to do a trial and error on that - or is it consistent where that is at along with this mod? Meaning - very easy to set it up and get a great feel? My buddy has the RK Head and his bike felt smooth - he does not have an ECU flash. He has the high compression one. Leaning towards the low compression but may have to wait for your other tests! We are single track/Enduro riders in TX.
TSP do have a recommend power valve setting by measuring. Also a starting point for idle needle and air screw. The powervalve setting seemed right but the idle setting was to low maybe half a turn more and I had to open air screw one extra turn. Bike rips now and my bike a 250 with high compression head
Rich. How did you feel about riding the low comp here in Utah at our elevation? Think the bike still had the lug and power or do you think it was too low and should maybe go with a medium?
As a 🇬🇧 resident, we get treated like leppers when it comes to riding off road, with very little facilities available to us. How does it work stateside? You seem to be able to go anywhere 🤔
Hey! I'm hesitant between the low and med compression head. Have you tried the med yet? I was told that the tractability is rather a direct relation with the remapping than the head.
my high comp head on 17 te250 allowed me to run a gear high at lower rpms. I thought it was an improvement. Now I wonder...? I was afraid it would be stall happy but it's not, hmmm...
I assume the bike would put out more emissions with the flash of the ECU. (I'm not worried) would there be any long term changes to the durability. I know a guy who has a special head on an older carb bike and it takes a lot more work to start the bike.
Even with the tsp mapping Doesn't the Sherco have the best motor for technical riding bc theres so much torque off idle? Appreciate your perspective. Awesome content!
I wouldn't say the Sherco has more torque off idle. The area the bike is able to lug, tractor and hold traction is larger than the stock TPI's. Lots of times these types of comparisons are apples to oranges. Is the Sherco better than the TSP? NO. Is the TSP better than the Sherco? Also No. I like the TPI machines better in certain places, I like the Sherco better in certain places.
