Chaotic you encountered the rage glitch. Occasionally when rage is used, a different move will get the rage boost. It's not supposed to and it's pretty much as likely as finding a shiny. So hey. You got lucky
Could have also simply been a higher damage roll. Each attack in pokemon has 16 different values for how much damage is dealt, minimum 85% power to maximum 100% power. The first mega punch could have rolled a lower value (46 damage) , while the second one rolled higher (64 damage)

I did it with hitmanchan thinking his ice punch fire punch and thunder punch was gonna be helpful. Found out they were special and he was a physical attacker....it was complete shit. He was tanky taking hits but hitmonlee is a better choice because of that one example.
Mm hmm. I remember experiencing that same thing with just about every physical attacker that I gave what I thought was still a physical move in Gen 3. Giving Raticate Pursuit was one of them.
When you were prepping for the E4 i said "ugh just give yourself the free trade evolution and evolve to Machamp!!" but watching Machoke take out his evolved form was absolutely heroic, great run

Generally what he told me is that he highly suspects this video to be on playback with RNG manipulation. He backs it up by saying how weird it was for him to open up L/R menu-thingy (which, to be honest, nobody ever opens in normal gameplay) as well as him making many, many unnecessary back-and-forth moves over pokemon moves menu. There might've been more things but he didn't want to continue the topic (as he doesn't care about this all). You might or might not believe me and tbh I don't mind that. I just wanted to let you know so that you can look for yourself and see if it's true. On one hand it's not like it's forbidden to do RNG manip, but imo if you do it you should say so at the start. Same I wish more nuzlockes would use the alternative evolution methods provided by the universal randomizer. It’s pretty balanced. For example you need to wait till level 37 to get an Alakazam. So while you can get even more power you need to work for it
Had a thought on a possibly fun version of a POC use the pokemon randomizer to randomize types and abilities and maybe trainer pokemon but not wild pokemon.
I actually made my Primeape more mixed, since it gets some nice special moves and sometimes you really need those. Thunderbolt and Overheat can be helpful. Though I did just a monotype, not a monotype nuzlocke

Still, it was imrpessive you've made it through given the unfavourable odds.
Yes, even the second time around vs. Misty, your Mankey was slower, but your 2nd attempt went better in part due to your Jolly nature (and your 3rd attempt being Adamant is absolutely godly for the same reasons). At such a low stage of the playthrough, even 1 or 2 stat points can make or break an entire exchange of a match so be glad your "starter" isn't neutral or negative attack/defensive gains otherwise the battle would of gone pear shaped much quicker!
For a Hardcore Nuzlocke, I think what you pulled off is pretty amazing! The first death is all the way at the end, during the Elite Four! And it's, again, only the first in the entire Nuzlocke! This is great!

I did this same run in Ultra Violet sans nuzlocke. The biggest changes that hack brings are the ability of catching a lv5 Machop rather than pick a starter (your rival still picks Charmander), having trade evolutions mons like Machoke evolve at lv48 instead, getting both Hitmons in Saffron and, most egregiously, changing Gyarados to Water/Dragon, which I did not account for lol. No Phy/Spe split or anything extra either, so the abilities are garbage as well. The final Elite 4 team was pretty much the same: for coverage Machamp with Rock Slide, Hitmonlee with Strength/Earthquake, Primeape with Aerial Ace/Overheat/Thunderbolt (it has decent Sp.Atk btw), Poliwrath exactly as yours, and Hitmonchan with Sky Upper/Mach, Ice and Thunder Punches. All around level 60. I can tell you for a fact that your Machoke would've died to that final Fire Blast because at 60 it took 3/4s of my Machamp's health, the whole line just has abysmal Sp.Def. Also Hitmonchan was basically useless, with the exception of Dragonite and Ice Punch he did more damage using Sky Uppercut than using a super effective elemental punch, even after I EV trained him. I thought he would at least fare well against Gyarados but nope, Water/Dragon in this hack. Still a good run tbh, I love fighting types even tho they're garbage in Kanto lol.
You dont need to beat the Vermilion City gym to get access to Rock Tunnel, so you could have got Machop before fighting Surge. Machop also learns Dig so its also possible to solo Surge with Machop.

@@ChaoticMeatballTV if you over level and can get gengar it should be possible. No stab because ghost is awful offensive type but psychic t bolt and Giga drain should cover most weakness and if you can get ice punch, dragons shouldn't be a problem.

Do you have a rule that stops you from getting multiple of the same pokemon? I imagine something like that, if only as overlevel insurance would be acceptable.
I actually do fighting nuzlockes all the time solely because i think the fighting types look the coolest....Gen 1 is prolly the hardest to do, why? Sabrina (/Agatha) largely, its a bit more balanced by gen 3 but i member going against Sabrina in gen 1 and getting completely 1 hitted except for Hitmonlee who was faster and crit worked off speed in gen 1.
for what its worth my team was Hitmonlee, Primeape, Machoke, Poliwrath and Charizard cus there is no fighting starter in gen 1 but fire becomes the closest in later gens + plus a nice HM slave (fly alone is worth it for convenience)
People have been looking into it, but I don't think it's possible since you only have Pikachu for Brock and at Level 14, there's no way you're taking him down.
I did a similar run a few years back, but took a slightly different route doing it. Namely because I got a max SpA IV, +SpA Nature (not Modest thankfully) Hitmonchan. I ended up grinding on Gastly and the occasional Haunter for SpA EVs and made use of Thief and the elemental punches. It was awesome seeing someone else doing this type of run and with a different strategy as well.
I would love to see a nuzlock with 2 or 3 types. You could have a fire and electric only team, or dark/fighting/psychic team. Monotype runs are cool and all, but it'd be better with a bit more diversity, while not just being a regular nuzlock.

Yeah. I agree too. That's why I usually use the Randomizer to enable trade evolutions to be evolved normally before I do a Nuzlocke.

Ahh I was doing this challenge awhile ago before I lost my save. Though I chose hitmonlee for elemental punches.
I couldn't bring myself to choose it simply because of the lack of physical/special split.
I think hitmonlee has like 35 special attack

Rage is like having the justified ability, but you get to attack. Whenever you get hit after using it, you get an attack boost.

I couldn't physically get there without going over the level cap, mostly due to the required trainers on Route 9.
