Wow. This interview was SO. MUCH. FUN. And incredibly insightful. Tommy is not only a legend of rock and roll, but he is extremely intelligent and engaging. I truly hope you enjoy watching this interview as much as we did doing it!
This interview is a must- see for fans, musicians, producers, and songwriters alike.
There is a lot to take away from this conversation with Tommy. He discusses his philosophies for writing, playing, and producing music. His experiences with The Replacements, Guns N' Roses, Soul Asylum, Cowboys In The Campfire, Perfect, and Bash & Pop all come into play as he offers a look into his musical philosophy.
Teaching Tommy those songs when Tommy was 11, and Bob was only 18. That tells you how freaking GOOD Bob was. RIP man.
they are/were both brilliant. What they accomplished was incredible at any age!
Damn fine interview. You got the best out of Tommy.
Thanks, it was a really fun conversation! Glad you enjoyed it.
very cool. hung out with tommy and his band perfect for a couple days while on thier tour in columbus ohio - they played the Newport and Stache's! those fellas were so polite
That’s so cool- he is a 100% class act!
Thank you for the awesome interview with Tommy! Keep up the good work Ryan!!!
I appreciate the kind words!
Excellent interview, thanks! We met Tommy a few months ago at a small gig he did in our city and he was just awesome. Cheers from Canada!
thank you, and yes Tommy is amazing!
You’re the man, sick interview
thank you kindly!
"Don't Tell a Soul" was The Replacements doing their best to sound like U2 and "All Shook Down" was The Replacements doing their best to sound like REM. (IMO) And also IIMO every Replacements record is just a bit better than the previous. The only exception is "Sorry Ma" which is just out of this world.
As silly as this may sound, I've actually stayed awake at night a couple of times, debating with myself and ranking every Mats album from start to finish. I've come to the conclusion "Sorry Ma" is absolutely untouchable and is my go to Replacements album all the live long day.
Yess, I've been looking forward to this! 😊
hope you enjoy it Hannah!
Fantastic questions and interview! Thx! 👊
Glad you enjoyed it!
awesome, love the mats, huge influence! its nice to hear some deeper stuff about his early years, coke and candybars haha!
thank you so much! indeed it was a fascinating dive into his past! thanks for watching🙂
This was great. 👍🏻
thank you so much! glad you dug it🙂
Tommy was in SA for 6 years? I know he was apart of Delayed Reaction which a great record!!!!!
yes! he also played some bass on "Silver Lining"
just a little constructive criticism: the live clips are way louder than the interview
Nice work Ryan!
thanks Elliot!
Ryan Smith is a great addition to Soul Asylum, looking forward to their next record. Tommy was great in Soul Asylum too, caught him with them once back in 2011. Get The Streets back in the set list
Thank you so much for the kind words! "The Streets" is a JAM for sure.
Very cool.
He is Paul W brother from another mother
absolutely!
i'm gonna get me some gloves tomorrow! apparently, a really hip look now.
😂 absolutely 👍🏼
What's the tune at 15:13?
That is the song “Manipulation”
Nice job !!! Does Tommy keep in touch with Paul anymore. And even though it's a Tommy interview does Paul have any idea if he's ever gonna make music again?
That is an excellent question- as far as I know they keep in touch but I didn’t ask that. I’ll ask him next time around…
better not. @@SecretChordOfficial
