- So welcome to my first podcast! I am still in the process of learning everything and there's much to be improved on. This podcast will be kept short and simple going over some of the thoughts and techniques used for this weeks french provincial dresser makeover using Dixie Belle Chalk Paint. Thanks, Katarina, so glad you are doing this. So refreshing to hear a TH-cam be really honest about SELLING. I, too, have found that white, ordinary stuff sells and creative and unique stuff lingers. I want to hear the nitty gritty about rehabbing furniture to make a little money. I'm curious about how much you pay for furniture, where you find your pieces, and what you actually get for them. I agree with you on the French Provincial! It's a feminine style, and should be pretty and colorful.

KACHA! FABULOUSO! You spoke from the artist heart....so true that its a process working on a piece..decisions of style, inspiration, design, colors and stain finishes,distress, layering, blending techniques, details, finishes, pictures, posting....it is not easy! Even running out of paints! May look easy and gorgeous but let me tell you it is hard work to be talented artist. But I love everything that comes with the creative process. At 59 years young I have rediscovered myself as the artist again. I agree that you have to love the piece and then you know its done! Sometimes it takes everything out of you physically and mentally! I have been working on the floor and buffing wax till my arm falls off!

First of all, I love your accent! I agree, gold wax makes most pieces better. 😄 Thank you for the reminder that any piece can be repainted. I get so anxious about getting just the right color combination for each piece that it sometimes keeps me from moving forward.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I love all your furniture makeovers they are so beautiful. I agree with you that if you want to sell an item fast, 1 colour will get the job done. I like to experiment with the different techniques you have shown, but I do it on something that I am happy to hold onto for a while, and enjoy it for myself if it does not sell quickly. I have watched most of your makeover videos, but it would be really great if you could add a picture of the furniture that you are describing in your podcasts.. Looking forward to more podcasts and furniture makeovers. xx

Maybe throwing in photos will help. I am still figuring this all out. Eventually this will be on podcast platforms which people will listen to instead of watch. I really liked that you talked about how you go about choosing what colors to use. I'm still in the "having to repaint pieces 2 or 3 times before I get it right"-phase of my furniture painting... 😂 I get overwhelmed by all the ideas and inspiration I get from others and haven't quite pinpointed MY style just yet.
I'm starting to though, I'm finding that primitives (vintage primitive, country primitive, folk art, whatever you may call it) really speaks to me. Now I just need to figure out what "my" colors are. 😌

Hi Kačha, congratulations on your first podcast! (I thought Podcasts were radio broadcasts? No?) I'm obviously not well up on Podcasts... But I did enjoy yours and I did learn a few things! I'm just starting out on my upcycling journey-adventure. I have limited funds atm but I have invested in several chalk paints, waxes, brushes, etc. I'm about to start on my first project: a small Bureau that needs some tlc before I start painting. I've decided on a Turquoise - Green - Purple palate, using a Green Peacock designer curtain fabric as an accent. I see it all quite clearly in my mind's eye and the amount of detail that it will require. (I really like the small details!) I'm really excited and impatient to get started! I'll keep you updated!

Great podcast Kacha! I kind of consider myself one of your protégés. I’ve learned so much and finally sold my first piece! I’m on my way! Being an artist myself, I had to relearn some skills to make it work on furniture. Now, I’m becoming braver and making furniture my art. Yes, most like white, but we are artist. Wonder what the masters would of said? Lol!
Wow Kat congratulations on your first sale! I'm so excited for you! I can go white every now and then but I just can't do it all the time. I know it would make my life easier with sales but money isn't everything and we all need to express our art in different ways!
@@KachaFurniture I noticed you paint a lot in blues. Do you think it's a hot color selling right now? Oddly enough...the piece I sold was the red and black wash. Why is it so hard to find french prov. hardware higher than 3"? Oh...and did you ever state the spray wax you were excited about? If you did...I totally missed it.
I’m eclectic and a little eccentric. I like a variety of colors which is one of the reasons why I watch your channel. I also like to wear darker colors but love brighter colors. I am a water painter one moment then I will go through a spurt of chalk painting or onto sanding cabinets. My house has many colors in it, mostly wood tone colors, besides my chalk paint projects, water paintings and my fiancé‘s acrylic paintings and plants.I love Little knickknacks that light up with various colors including lamps. I have a fish named Herby and three dogs, Pippy, Rupee and Blacky. I just moved and I have a beautiful inground swimming pool in my backyard and hoping to get some chalk painting ideas for outside furniture in the near future?? I really like the podcast Katharina!

Hi Kacha! So glad I found your channel. Watching you paint furniture is mesmerizing! What is the spray wax you speak of, is it a particular brand? Also, in the world of furniture painting I've seen various products being used during the prep cleaning step, such as: mineral spirits, simple green, white lightening and TSP. I've seen you use vinegar (which is what I use to clean at home in general) but anyway, is this all a matter of preference? Appreciate your budget friendly recommendations as I embark on this journey, thanks!
For light and budget friendly project I use vinegar. For a little more $ I have recently started using Dixie Belles White Lightning and I love it. As you can see I have been trying all of their products slowly and finding things I really like. lol. The spray wax is kind of awesome because its so easy to use and gets the job done SO fast! So Kasha I love your accent, and I'm curious what country you are originally from? I worked with alot of people from the Ukraine, and you sound a bit like them, but I'm not really good at telling which accent someone has. Love the snow, I just did some snowshoeing today for 1hour. In my opinion purple and yellow can go together but they are VERY bold! If that's what you like then go for it! Like I said very bold colors, people will have strong opinions about it but if it's for you, the only opinion that matters is yours!

Hi Kacha, what's the different between dry brushing and blending???
Blending mixes two colors together with water and creates a smooth transition. Dry brushing creates a totally different look. It kind of leaves hints of color wherever you brush. It's much easier for you to watch videos where I use the techniques because explaining them won't really get the point across!

Kacha, I have followed you for a while now. I was wondering, are you now going to only focus on Dixie Belle Paints or still consider Annie Sloan, as you have used in the past?
Ruth Weber we will still be using all brands. Dixie belle has become very supportive of the channel and I am receiving lots of other brands I’ve never used before. That being said I’m sure I’ll use Annie again sometime!
Kacha, is it possible to paint a laminate wardrobe with Annie Sloan or Dixie and waxing with your technique? I wanna change some cheap furniture at renting flat.

Maine is one of my favorite states ,I’m originally a New Yorker and we’d go to Maine for vacation...I live in Nevada now ..Reno not Vegas so we do get lots of snow ...
