    I've found that I can use a hair dryer to move that dark wax around if it drys to quickly or come back a couple days later and realize that's not the look I wanted.

    Fabulous. I needed the confidence to tackle a lovely cabinet I’m refurbishing and I’ve learnt the key is the clear wax underneath and what a super tip to further refine the look by adding a little more over the dark. Now I’m looking forward to the project, thank you Annie.

    How much time do you wait between coats of clear and dark, white or black wax?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cyndie, you would want to apply Clear Wax and then Dark Wax straight away. The Clear Wax acts as sort of a protector to the Chalk paint® underneath from the highly pigmented Dark Wax. You can also use the Clear Wax as a sort of eraser.

    Hi Annie! I started my first project two days ago; an old kitchen table & chairs. I chalk painted Old White for the legs of the table, the chair legs, & the back of the chairs. I’ll be staining the table top & seats of each chair after I’m done with the white. How long after I use the two waxes (clear & dark) before I use the table for family dinner? I’m a little nervous someone may get dark wax on their clothes.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Carmella, I wouldn't suggest using the Dark Wax to sit on and use as a table top, as it is not the most robust and may come off. I would advise using a stain rather than my wax in this case. Hope that helps!

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Loretta, yes you can! If you don't have grooves, you can create a rustic look by creating a striae, or thin the wax with a little bit of white spirits, and create a glazed effect.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pati, you can paint over anything! Dark or light, it just may need an extra coat of paint if it is particularly dark. For a coffee table, we would suggest using a few coats of our Chalk Paint® Wax, and make sure it cures over a 2 week period. Does Chalk pain cover OIL BASE ORIGINAL cabinets! I have an ugly old bathroom cabinets the paint that was painted on them literally is peeling off. I continued peeling off and a very ugly yellowish shiny cabinet door. What do you suggest?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can apply Chalk Paint® over an old oil-based finish, but in your case you will need to remove all of the loose or peeling paint first or it will continue to come loose, taking your new paint layers with it.

    how long should i wait in between the 2nd coat of clear wax and the coat of dark wax?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello John, It's actually a good idea to apply Dark Wax immediately after your final coat of Clear Wax. The fresh Clear Wax gives you a lot of control of where your Dark Wax stays and goes. That said, you can always lighten your Dark Wax with a little Clear Wax if it's heavier than you'd like.

    Hi Anne. Can I use this method on my laminate bathroom vanity.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Camille, you can indeed. There's a few things to keep in mind when painting laminate - because it is not porous (like wood) it may need a few more coats of Chalk Paint®. We would also advise giving it a quick sand so the paint has a better surface to key to. If it is to be in a bathroom with water pooling around it, we would also advise using a water-based varnish to make our paint and wax waterproof. Although the wax is water-repellent, it is not waterproof and would flake over time if there was constant water sitting on it - such as a sink unit.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello John, I'm afraid not. Water based finishes like the Lacquer will not bond to an oil finish like the wax. Wax is an excellent sealer in it's own rite, but if you prefer a harder finish, you should opt for the Lacquer.

      The second would be to use my White Chalk Paint® Wax, which you can see here: www.anniesloan.com/techniques/using-white-chalk-paint-wax
      The third way would be to add detail afterwards using a Detail Brush. Each of these methods would have a different look, I would have a little browse and see which you like most!

    Does the resin from the knots in the pine show through the chalk paint eventually?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gail, shouldn't do, but this really depends on the strength of the wood and the colour of paint/amount of coats done. If the knots do eventually bleed through the paint, then you can seal with shellac and paint over. This usually does the trick!
