Please do more Q&A. So interesting. Q: When and why did you start feeding them. Q. When do they sleep. Q. Is there some that just stopped coming. Q. Why do they take a whole nut. Q. Where do they live. Q. What time do they come to eat.

We have black and grey squirrels both here on the west coast of Canada. We've made friends with a little black squirrel who just had babies. She often comes when I call her from our porch. My neighbours have started to notice and they sometimes stop to watch her. We're in a big city, but we have eagles, ravens, hawks, and coyotes here, so a lot of predators, which is a big part of why we keep our cats indoors (except for a catio). We have a city-wide composting project here: everyone has to leave their compost out for collection, so we do have rats. I've never seen the rats and squirrels interact, but I have seen crows hunting rats, which is a pretty scary sight. But the crows and squirrels seem happy to share their food and space with each other, only occasionally scolding each other if one of the other takes too much. Sometimes they play, with the crows swooping near the squirrels, and the squirrels enjoying it.

Watching how Splitty keeps taking time out to sit up & look at you with his cute little expression speaks volumes for how strong a bond you’ve managed to form with him. You can see in his eyes that he’s not just there for the food: he seems to genuinely enjoy your company & his little face just looks so inquisitive & grateful for your generosity at the same time. They’re adorable little creatures & your kindness towards them is always a joy to see. Thank you, as always 😍🐿

@@Squirrels_at_the_window I’m not surprised! I’m sure they feel similarly about you often too.
One thing in your video did alarm me though… in your answer to what would happen if you ever moved away, you mentioned you don’t plan on moving & then you said that when you die you hope someone will take over & feed them too. Something about this last part sounded really sad & ominous somehow! To my knowledge you’ve never shown yourself on any of your videos, but I always formed the impression from your voice & how your hands look that you’re actually relatively young! If you do indeed stay living where you are, you’ve got many, many generations of squirrels to care for yet… too soon to be thinking about when you’re gone!
Plus, by then, they’ll probably have all moved in & be living with you, so maybe they’ll all just learn to sit on each other’s shoulders, put on your clothes & shuffle to the store to buy their own nuts & antler sticks 😂

My husband and I had a critter eating my vegetables and whole watermelons from my vines in the high desert of NM, so we put out a safe trap with the hope of relocating the critter. We caught a large squirrel and we’re about to relocate it when I noticed she was nursing. We let her go and she is still in my garden eating my veggies today. 😂
We have hawks, cats, snakes, coyotes, etc.

It is so fun to watch them eat. We used to feed the squirrels at the house we lived in. They loved corn on the cob and would bury the kernels all over the yard. We even had a small black one who was so cute. Won first place at the county fair with a picture of him on the corn cob feeder.

I live in a suburbs of NYC and feed the squirrels in my backyard; I have the grey and black ones; I get large bags of peanuts (in shell) from BJs as well as birdseed. There is a black stray cat that comes into my yard and my poodle Star knows when its there even without seeing it so she starts barking and I let her out and she chases it away as she liked watching the squirrels, when Star was younger I would also give her a nut but since she's gotten older her tummy can't digest them anymore so I give her a special treat instead.

I have the same kind of squirrels. I'm three decades into feeding them ( and birds) every morning. They seem to like the sunflower seeds and especially roasted peanuts in the shell the best. When I'm spreading the chow out for them, one always sits as close as yours and starts vibrating watching me lay out the nuts. Word of caution though, when us guys were about ten, one of the friends picked a squirrel up. Within a nano second he got bit nearly a dozen times. His hand was a mess and of course we all thought it was funny except him.

I miss my babies, they got old and one of them i named Qiqi got a horrible tumor/ulser on her head eventually falling out and leaving a huge crater in her head 😢

I got mostly black squirrels with a few grey near me. Although most of them are looking not so great. Their coats are uneven and looks like they have mites or something. Many are thin and I saw a momma squirrel eating dandelion today. I give them food when I can but there seems to be something going around that’s affecting their health 😢.
