I learned to always carry $400+ on my person, in case my wheels break down. My rental car leaving JFK blew a tire. Before smartphone times. I had to frogger across the freeway, concrete median to get an atm and to warm up. The gas station had a phone book #'s for tow trucks. Nobody was going to come get me, it was too dangerous. I needed the cash to not just be stuck. I figured it out.
Giuliani did make the city safe, not just feeling safe. I went to Broadway plays, walked Time Square and this country girl wasn’t afraid. Today?? No thank you!!

Tell the mayor that when he is willing to ride the subway himself, without his personal firearm, without cops next to him protecting him, then, if he's willing to do that, they the people will know he has changed the way the city operates and has gotten tough on crime, helped the homeless, helped the mentally ill, got rid of foolish prosecutors, hires more cops to ride those trains who won't be afraid of being prosecuted for doing what is right. I grew up riding the subways in the 50s and 60s and wouldn't do it now. Until then, they need to let the people carry their own firearms legally and not worry about these insane prosecutions.

Surely it was because he was mental or on something hard . However , this is a long story but people everywhere should know about bad New York laws and what they allow . My child’s father has been paying $2k a month for squatters to stay in his home in Staten Island New York and hasn’t been able to get them out for going on 5 years and he’s overwhelmed with the debt and supporting his children. He’s overwhelmed with debt not being able to use that income he’s spending on the squatters for their bills monthly . He has to pay their water and electric and the mortgage itself and his own home he actually lives in almost went into foreclosure because he couldn’t afford to pay for both. He tried to turn off the water at one point and the city was gonna fine him up to $1,000 a day if he didn’t turn it back on because the squatters are there . He’s trying to now sell the house with them in it and will lose over 2k because the realtor won’t be able to get into the house for pictures or he’ll have to have a house flipper take it IF he can sell it with them in it and let the next person try to get them out . The realtor we recently talked to told us it’s crazy how many people lose their own property over there because of squatters . My guy has been through so much with it that I can’t type it all out. He even called the department of buildings when the squatters changed the locks to HIS HOUSE and the department of buildings has something on record saying it’s uninhabitable because they changed the locks and they even put something on the door telling the squatters that they had to get out but they didn’t get out even after he and I both called the sheriff about it . They’ve texted my guy so many times cussing him out while not paying rent and telling him to do things for YEARS . He went through so much to get them out and proved they haven’t been paying rent and called the sheriff . The squatters even tried to get him in trouble and he was gonna get fined up to $150k by the city for not making sure the SQUATTERS had their hot water heater working because supposedly they said it went out AFTER several years of them living there not paying rent … he said he got out of it because the city said “Oh yeah we will throw this out because you’re right they’re not supposed to be there and we can see it’s uninhabitable because they changed the locks” but they’re still there and he can’t get them out ! It’s sick ! He went there to get them out and they called the cops and the cops made HIM LEAVE HIS OWN HOME that he pays for lol when covid hit they stopped paying but STILL aren’t paying and they did have a contract at one point that expired literally years ago and he said it expired years ago but when it was over they kept staying and somehow supposedly now have a newer contract with his fake signature . Why would he sign a new contract and say “it’s okay and you can keep NOT paying for MORE years after all you did to me and I still want you here or maybe you’ll be better ”. He can show on record they haven’t paid all of these years. It’s violating to my family but a New York lawyer told us because they had a contract at one point even though it expired years ago they aren’t considered squatters ! I said but they haven’t paid in all these years and don’t have a contract ! That’s just how New York is .

Used to work with an ex member of the FBI and she explained to me tactics like the broken window campaign aren't just feeling safe measures. Criminals look for signs of urban decay because it shows them which buildings are empty and the mentality of the neighborhood. The more decay, the easier it is to take over and not be seen. That actually is a good campaign in the realm of advancing actual safety, but only a stepping stone. She also showed me a test video where a bank put in signs saying no sunglasses or hats. Criminal came to the door and read the sign, and they robbed a bank down the street. Criminals prefer easy targets with little fuss. The biggest tactic to protect people is to make the option not worth the risk. A door broken open on a street where everything is in order, draws attention. So I wouldn't knock those ideas as feel safe items. They are part of an overall arsenal of options to make safer.
I've seen this work in the neighborhood where I live and surrounding areas. There are a few of us who pick up trash and ask the garbage men not to leave the trash they drop on the ground. - Call in the sanitation department to get any left furniture or large pieces of broken stuff off the sidewalks. - Call to get any graffiti painted over. - Complain about too much noise and carrying on after midnight. - Let it be known you won't go anywhere homeless people are welcome to congregate and hang out all the time. Because if people don't care about their neighborhood, guess what happens? It easily goes down in a hill of trash and decay, then it becomes a slum, and all the businesses, decent people, and families move out while the people who mess up everything move in. Already, the local supermarket had to put in security measures to curb theft and more homeless are being seen. Meanwhile, in a nearby neighborhood that keeps everything clean and orderly, their stores are still normal without a bunch of gates and aisles of locked up items. Why? Because I don't often see homeless people in their part of town and when I do, I Never see the same person twice. Ever. I'll see someone in the area and they and others are gone the next time I'm there. Also, the teens from the nearby schools aren't allowed to just walk around in swarms, causing problems. The unarmed National Guard troops who aren’t allowed to intervene in anything isn’t deterring anyone from harming people . I’m sure advice from someone who hasn’t had to ride a subway in 20 years is going to make all the difference.
I haven't ridden the subway in years but spent half my life doing it and i will tell you that it was never safe. I can go on with personal experiances for hours but that wont help prove s single thing . Whether or not someone is riding the train or not is not the issue at hand. What is the issue is whether or not the people in charge are going to do everything they can to protect NYC's citizens because they obviously haven't been doing it for quite some time now.
@suziukanovic42 I lived on Long Island from 2001 to 2012. Few times I rode the train into NY and then rode the Subway. Scary as sh*t. You are stuck and waiting on the platform like sardines packed elbow to elbow anybody could get knifed and no one would know it. People are like only interested in themselves and I felt like we were cattle. It was hell. If I worked in the city I would be terrified every freakin ass day. And yes, it's worse now with what happened to that young man who spent 18 months fighting being held accountable for that crazy dude's life when in fact that crazy dude was still breathing when EMS took over. THAT wasn't on the front page though. Yeah, EMS got him when he was still breathing. And so this homeless person set on fire no one went to their aid. Van, tysm for continuing to cover what's happened and is happening to NYC. Unfortunately, the victim's families have been doing everything possible to get the word out for years. Nobody cared, nothing changed, and it's only gotten worse. We've been asking "How many victims will it take?" for so long, and this past incident with the illegal criminal on the train finally has spread the awareness of how bad it is. For the first time in so long, we made a huge shift to the right in this election, and I think a huge part was the crime and the situation with ilkegal immigrants/bogus asylum seekers. They kicked veterans out of shelters to make room for them, they kicked children out of school, and they live in some of our best hotels, getting 3 "culturally sensitive" meals a day, free laundry services, free healthcare and lawyers, and ridiculous amounts of money and food stamps, while our disabled New Yorkers had their benefits cut. It's been a wild thing to live through, especially right after covid. As a lifelong Republican who was born here and has seen how great my city can be under competent leadership, it's been really tempting to leave NYC. But more and more on the right keep moving and it only made things worse. This is my home, it's where my family is, and I knew it would only be a matter of time before enough ppl got fed up with these ridiculous liberal policies and beliefs. Ppl like you are such a huge help. You spread awareness of the hypocrisy and how these crooked politicians are ruining everything that is great about our country. Well, they do call themselves a "Sanctuary City" that willingly harbor , financially support, individuals that have entered the country illegally, this same city "Gotham" failed to hold accountable a citizen who un-alived another citizen with mental health issues by an act of vigilante justice in their subway. I grew up there it is a common occurrence since the 70s. I was mugged at gunpoint. My sister was mugged. It is nothing new there.

Surely it was because he was mental or on something hard . However , this is a long story but people everywhere should know about bad New York laws and what they allow . My child’s father has been paying $2k a month for squatters to stay in his home in Staten Island New York and hasn’t been able to get them out for going on 5 years and he’s overwhelmed with the debt and supporting his children. He’s overwhelmed with debt not being able to use that income he’s spending on the squatters for their bills monthly . He has to pay their water and electric and the mortgage itself and his own home he actually lives in almost went into foreclosure because he couldn’t afford to pay for both. He tried to turn off the water at one point and the city was gonna fine him up to $1,000 a day if he didn’t turn it back on because the squatters are there . He’s trying to now sell the house with them in it and will lose over 2k because the realtor won’t be able to get into the house for pictures or he’ll have to have a house flipper take it IF he can sell it with them in it and let the next person try to get them out . The realtor we recently talked to told us it’s crazy how many people lose their own property over there because of squatters . My guy has been through so much with it that I can’t type it all out. He even called the department of buildings when the squatters changed the locks to HIS HOUSE and the department of buildings has something on record saying it’s uninhabitable because they changed the locks and they even put something on the door telling the squatters that they had to get out but they didn’t get out even after he and I both called the sheriff about it . They’ve texted my guy so many times cussing him out while not paying rent and telling him to do things for YEARS . He went through so much to get them out and proved they haven’t been paying rent and called the sheriff . The squatters even tried to get him in trouble and he was gonna get fined up to $150k by the city for not making sure the SQUATTERS had their hot water heater working because supposedly they said it went out AFTER several years of them living there not paying rent … he said he got out of it because the city said “Oh yeah we will throw this out because you’re right they’re not supposed to be there and we can see it’s uninhabitable because they changed the locks” but they’re still there and he can’t get them out ! It’s sick ! He went there to get them out and they called the cops and the cops made HIM LEAVE HIS OWN HOME that he pays for lol when covid hit they stopped paying but STILL aren’t paying and they did have a contract at one point that expired literally years ago and he said it expired years ago but when it was over they kept staying and somehow supposedly now have a newer contract with his fake signature . Why would he sign a new contract and say “it’s okay and you can keep NOT paying for MORE years after all you did to me and I still want you here or maybe you’ll be better ”. He can show on record they haven’t paid all of these years. It’s violating to my family but a New York lawyer told us because they had a contract at one point even though it expired years ago they aren’t considered squatters ! I said but they haven’t paid in all these years and don’t have a contract ! That’s just how New York is .

Used to work with an ex member of the FBI and she explained to me tactics like the broken window campaign aren't just feeling safe measures. Criminals look for signs of urban decay because it shows them which buildings are empty and the mentality of the neighborhood. The more decay, the easier it is to take over and not be seen. That actually is a good campaign in the realm of advancing actual safety, but only a stepping stone. She also showed me a test video where a bank put in signs saying no sunglasses or hats. Criminal came to the door and read the sign, and they robbed a bank down the street. Criminals prefer easy targets with little fuss. The biggest tactic to protect people is to make the option not worth the risk. A door broken open on a street where everything is in order, draws attention. So I wouldn't knock those ideas as feel safe items. They are part of an overall arsenal of options to make safer.
I've seen this work in the neighborhood where I live and surrounding areas.
There are a few of us who pick up trash and ask the garbage men not to leave the trash they drop on the ground.
- Call in the sanitation department to get any left furniture or large pieces of broken stuff off the sidewalks.
- Call to get any graffiti painted over.
- Complain about too much noise and carrying on after midnight.
- Let it be known you won't go anywhere homeless people are welcome to congregate and hang out all the time.
Because if people don't care about their neighborhood, guess what happens?
It easily goes down in a hill of trash and decay, then it becomes a slum, and all the businesses, decent people, and families move out while the people who mess up everything move in.
Already, the local supermarket had to put in security measures to curb theft and more homeless are being seen.
Meanwhile, in a nearby neighborhood that keeps everything clean and orderly, their stores are still normal without a bunch of gates and aisles of locked up items.
Why? Because I don't often see homeless people in their part of town and when I do, I Never see the same person twice. Ever. I'll see someone in the area and they and others are gone the next time I'm there.
Also, the teens from the nearby schools aren't allowed to just walk around in swarms, causing problems. I only see them going to and from school. They're never causing problems.

I haven't ridden the subway in years but spent half my life doing it and i will tell you that it was never safe. I can go on with personal experiances for hours but that wont help prove s single thing . Whether or not someone is riding the train or not is not the issue at hand. What is the issue is whether or not the people in charge are going to do everything they can to protect NYC's citizens because they obviously haven't been doing it for quite some time now.

I lived on Long Island from 2001 to 2012. Few times I rode the train into NY and then rode the Subway.
Scary as sh*t. You are stuck and waiting on the platform like sardines packed elbow to elbow anybody could get knifed and no one would know it. People are like only interested in themselves and I felt like we were cattle.

Van, tysm for continuing to cover what's happened and is happening to NYC. Unfortunately, the victim's families have been doing everything possible to get the word out for years. Nobody cared, nothing changed, and it's only gotten worse. We've been asking "How many victims will it take?" for so long, and this past incident with the illegal criminal on the train finally has spread the awareness of how bad it is.
For the first time in so long, we made a huge shift to the right in this election, and I think a huge part was the crime and the situation with ilkegal immigrants/bogus asylum seekers. They kicked veterans out of shelters to make room for them, they kicked children out of school, and they live in some of our best hotels, getting 3 "culturally sensitive" meals a day, free laundry services, free healthcare and lawyers, and ridiculous amounts of money and food stamps, while our disabled New Yorkers had their benefits cut. It's been a wild thing to live through, especially right after covid.
As a lifelong Republican who was born here and has seen how great my city can be under competent leadership, it's been really tempting to leave NYC. But more and more on the right keep moving and it only made things worse. This is my home, it's where my family is, and I knew it would only be a matter of time before enough ppl got fed up with these ridiculous liberal policies and beliefs. Ppl like you are such a huge help. You spread awareness of the hypocrisy and how these crooked politicians are ruining everything that is great about our country. I also really have to thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuously covering NY and shining a light on what is happening here. God bless you and your family! Well, they do call themselves a "Sanctuary City" that willingly harbor , financially support, individuals that have entered the country illegally, this same city "Gotham" failed to hold accountable a citizen who un-alived another citizen with mental health issues by an act of vigilante justice in their subway. Now another citizen un-alived in the subway by being set on fire, no community should have to suffer these types of consequences from failed elected officials who can't perform the basic elected duty of keeping the community safe, but when you vote based on party affiliation or identity politics and you keep getting these outcomes it's time to look in the mirror and acknowledge that how you, the citizens that reside in that community vote may be part of the problem.

Much respect, Van. My son is on the job in NYC. The stress level has been off the charts! Hopefully the tide is turning. The new Commissioner seems to be cleaning house. Our Governor in NY and the DA in Manhattan are a large part of the problem also. You are spot on with Adams, he’s sucking up to Trump now, hoping for political safety. Yep, FEELING safe isn't the same as BEING safe. That's what happens when the government sides with criminals. This all didn't occur without a lot of help. There used to be a time that criminals were afraid of the authorities and the public didn't side with criminals. Thanks to all of the activists who have brought this on us.
