I'm so in love with the whole Courtney/Alison thing AND THE WAY A WAS REVEALED??????? truly iconic. I wish they did this in the show tho

In the show it’s never actually said why Alison choose them as friends in the first place and yet it’s clear the girls felt so special because they were picked, but the fact that in the book it’s Courtney who chose them because she knew Alison would NEVER pick them because they were bland and anonymous so she did it out of spite… miss Sarah Shepard was WRITING
If my memories are correct, I think it did get explained through Mona in the show. And I believe it was in 5x12, the infamous episode were Mona dies

i love how all the random french in the A texts (au revoir, menage a tout, ferme la bouche) correlated with Ali’s whole obsession with paris and wanting to run away there with emily and such !!
i will forever be bitter we didn’t get a show courtney or the real alison being “A” the story line outsells any show story line after s4
Aria being A would have been really great as well but I agree with you, Sasha would have devoured the Courtney/Ali storyline and characters. Though I do think The Day Alison Disappeared was done sooo well in the show (apart from a plot hole or two lol)

@@linegodballe3222I think that Aria being A in the show could have been interesting and I think Ezra should have been ‘A’ with her before Ali finally takes over the ‘A’ game. Instead of romanticizing him, they should have let him be a villain and acknowledged that his relationship with Aria was wrong. I hate how the whole “I’m-stalking-you-and-your-friends-because-I’m-writing-a-book” thing was not shown in a bad light like?? And the fact that he knew exactly who she was the day they met too like?? It’s literally so vile but Marlene King had a weird obsession with this pairing so she did everything to paint this as redeemable even though that’s peak villain behavior!

@@linegodballe3222 Exactly what I was thinking. And it would have made Aria a bit more redeemable because the reason why she would have been a part of the A-Team would be that Ezra manipulated her. It would have been interesting to see her relationship with the other Liars be fractured by this for some time before she reconnects with them because of the third A (Ali). And then teaming up with Mona (the first A) and the other Liars to take down Alison!

I read these books back in middle school and only remembered vague details so I just watched the 2 deep dive videos and omg.... the story was so good... pls post part 3 I only read the first two arcs so I'm dying to know how the story progressed !!
This was SOOO GOOD I love how you recapped it, felt like I was in the universe of the LIARS. I stopped watching PLL after Alison came back because that was stupid to me, esp after i found out they went WAY off from the book, they changed everything and the show lost its touch so *phew* bullet dodged. But ever since i found out about how AMAZING the books were, i've been HOOKED. It's like a COMPLETELY new Pretty Little Liars. So sad the details didn't make it to the show, Sara Shepard deserves JUSTICE they MAULED her story.

Okay the one plot hole that really gets me is that they were talking to Courtney when Ali gets sent away, supposedly before she stole her life, so the real Ali did befriend them, and then says no they only knew Courtney I wouldn’t have talked to you… but she… did?
it’s been like a decade since i read ali’s little lies so i could be off but they knew OF her, because she was popular, and were all looking for the flag piece for the time capsule (that ali ali was boasting jason would tell her about at school), courtney ali saw them all in the backyard at the right time (like right after she takes ali’s ring or something she never takes off on the afternoon she was meant to go back to radley) and goes talk to them, making her parents (absent af) assume she was real alison bc she had friends and the ring (maybe it was a bracelet?) and that was how the friendship began. she also cut off all of ali’s old friends who could potentially notice her differences
I wish they put the book stuff in so bad like all the stuff w Tabitha and the cruise they went on and everything and A being Ali it's so much better

i don’t get it.. was alison the sick twin from the beginning? if so, why would cortney live under her name? or was courtney the one who first was in radley while alison were living in rosewood being friends with pll and after the flag story in six grade they switched places by mistake? because i don’t get the logic why would cortney pretend to be alison, if parents knew that she’s the normal one. could you please explain me the twin’s storyline again, i’m completely confused
Its pretty confusing but from what i got basically, Courtney was the crazy one in the beginning but in flag day (before alison and the girls actually became friends) Courtney pretended to be Alison and alison got taken to the facility, the New Alison (Courtney) then became close with the girls ditching alisons old friends and creating the group the girls knew and the Alison we usually think of as the "og" Alison, then on barn day Courtney ( true og Alison) was visiting and she killled the Alison (og Courtney) but her parents already thought she was Courtney so they just sent her off again, then she pretended to be Courtney so people would think she's "better" and stopped tried to steal alison identity and came back to get her revenge
From what I can remember we get more insight in the last book that’s called Ali’s little lies or something like that. Courtney got sent to Radley before the fam moved to Rosewood bc Ali tricked their parents into thinking she was “crazy”(acc to the wiki she got misdiagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia) and then on Flag Day, Courtney tricked the fam into thinking that SHE was Alison so she could avoid being sent back. Then, two years(?) later Ali-as Courtney- comes for a visit and ends up killing Courtney-as Ali- but the family still thinks that Real Ali is Courtney so they send her back to the institution, and Ali is reported missing.
What I don’t get is they’re described as not being exactly identical (on the wiki it’s said that Ali is prettier but Courtney is nicer, and they have distinct different faces in the “doll” pictures) so how didn’t their parent realize lmao

You meant Jason. However, in the books mr. Hastings is Ali and Courtney’s dad, not Jason’s. So Spenser and Melisa are the twins sibling through the same father but not Jason

I really wish Hanna ended up with Lucas, while I really like Mike as a character I just really loved Hanna and Lucas together, I actually have a bold statement, and couldn’t have happened (if you know you know,)it’s not hinted at in the books, but I really think Jenna and Mike would have actually been really cute together! It could have been a message about how popularity isn’t everything, also unpopular opinion, I did actually like Isaac with Emily, her other love interests either were boring or toxic, Isaac isn’t perfect, but I loved how he completely accepted her Bisexuality
Edit: I do have to admit though, I love Maya and Emily, and wished it went down differently between them
