Great video again, Charles. Personally, I have to put fur around my trees through some winters lol.
One teeny weeny ickle point, do you ever tie newly planted trees so that the top third or the top half of the tree sways in the wind? It, apparently, makes them grow a more stable root system thus making a stronger, healthier tree. I did it with all of my columnar fruit trees and seven years or so down the line some of my trees (depending on the fruit type and variety) have trunks as thick as my forearms. They're only around six feet tall too for easy access to the fruit (for me) - no, I'm not short but have spinal cord injuries to my neck which limits my ability to bounce, reach and other handy things lol.

      Hello Stan Watt,
Thank you for the compliment! :-) And yes, I support all my young trees (seedling trees, etc) and great point with allow the tops some freedom from the stake to flex some in the wind and grow more sturdy. However, what I feel is of even more value is some selective pruning to keep the above ground part of the tree sturdy relative to the supporting root structure. However, the initial years of a tree are important to manage the initial stem, which will grow to be the central leader and support the lateral branches... etc, etc... I have seen many gardens this year with fruit trees supporting hundreds of trees all within 3-5 feet of the ground grown on semi-dwarf rootstock that is pruned several times throughout the year to control and manage the height. I am hoping to share some more on these trees later this year.... Thanks again for writing me! :-)
      Charles

Tip I saw somewhere dig a square hole in heavy clay so when the roots hit the side they may turn but then it will hit the corners and go through instead of rapping around and becoming root bound but if you mulch should negate the issue all together

Another Great video. I like your product but $37 is a bit much for the spray bottle. You should try and see if there's a way to lower that cost so more people can purchase. Look forward to future vids

      Hello Alan,
Thank you for the compliment. I do not control the product price, however, I have learned that once the product gets onto your local nursery shelf, the cost will be significantly less because of the reduced cost sharing with on-line merchant, shipping (liquids ship at a higher rate that is fixed into the product cost), etc. There is a company in Northern California that is distributing IV Organic spray bottles called Harmony Farms in Sebastopol. They can be reached at (707) 823-9125 www.harmonyfarm.com/contact-us/ Let me know what they quote for the cost? Thank you again for the compliment! Charles :-)

Thank you for the great, informative video's......I have a question and wondering if you can share some knowledge. I have 3 citrus tree's which are about 1-3 years of age and 2 out of the 3 trees have a split in the trunk or branch, like the wood is literally splitting open. Nothing major but just want to know why this happens, is it because of the brutal sun or what please help me!!! I have the Ivory coating already on the trunks and on the branches exposed more to the sun!!!! So idk what it could be???🤔😕

    Hello Charles,
Great video! Keep up the good work. I have a questions about my fruit tree. I have a pomegranate tree, which is 3 years old, but it is not growing bigger the past 2 years. I use Jobes bone meal, Alaska Fish fish fertilizer, and i mulch, but it doesn't seem to grow bigger. I live in Houston Texas, and winters aren't too bad.. Please help with any tips,
    Thank you.

      Hello Sam Momin,
Thank you for the compliment! :-) Sounds like you are doing everything right!!! Sometimes it will take longer to get the tree going; this issue happens to everyone. I've been to many gardens where there may be 10 tomatoes or 10 apple trees in a row... all identical... but some perform great, and others poorly. My recommendation is to air-layer 1-2 branches and within 6-8 weeks you should have another branch that you can plant in another part of the garden in hopes that becomes the pomegranate tree you wanted, and maybe in less time too! Keep me posted on what you decide to do! Charles :-)

Hi Charles I'm in riverside and I have rock solid clay. Could I go a foot deeper and add rock and possibly a layer of weed barrier to keep soil out? It would help drainage as well as support from sinking root balls? I wish I could put pictures in the comments I have an reed avocado tree that is growing amazing I have found that watering it really really well keeps it thriving with a lot of compost and mulch I hardly ever have leaf drop other then when it drops a lot of leaves in winter/spring. Even the strong Santa Ana wind didn't get the best of it keeping it watered i always try to water all my fruit trees especially but water my whole yard well before a strong wind storm and I live in a area that is what we call the wind tunnel ! Thanks Charles .

hello Charles, I have a question, did you know what's the fastest method to get citrus to fruit, I have potted lemons and limes and I want to graft them or to root some cuttings but I don't know which one of the two methods are faster to bloom I grafted an eureka lemon last year an now is 3 feet tall but no fruit yet! thanks for your help!

    • @IVOrganic
      @IVOrganic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Gustavo Cuevas,
There are sooooo many factors that control fruiting. First, regarding your grafted Eureka lemon that grew 3 feet in its first year; sounds like you grafted onto a standard (or semi-standard) rootstock to get that much growth in the first year-- Great job! Generally, newly grafted trees will fruit by years 2 or 3. Any attempt to fruit in the first year should be removed so the plant can focus on growth and strong branches. Of the 3 ways of propagate trees, grafting is the fastest method to fruiting, air-layering second, and cuttings the slowest. And if you have the option, your in-ground fruit trees will bear better than in pots-- Again, only if you have the option depending on your growing zone. Keep me posted on your growing successes! Charles :-)

IV Organic thank you for the info! I grafted The eureka lemon onto a Mexican sweet Lima rootstock, I have more rootstock to graft this year and I have a rough lemon too and I want to graft different citrus on it but I don't know if that's possible, i have Persian lime, Mayer lemon and eureka they all have lots of fruit all my trees are potted, I live in Washington state we can't grow them on the ground. thanks!

Good morning Patti! I hope you are doing GREAT & that we can set a date with the Late Bloomer, Kaye, sometime before Spring (March/ April) the start of our busiest months... She was featured this afternoon LIVE on the Nick Federoff Show this afternoon... did you see it? Truly looking forward to getting together with both of you on an educational segment we can all share on our channels!!! To answer your questions, I did a lesson on Wintering A Fig Tree about a year ago, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/xIjGr1WJG-w/w-d-xo.html Because of the size of your papaya, I would start with staking before you apply these lessons taught in the above link: (1) wrap in burlap, (2) wrap in a white (to reflect excess afternoon heat) plastic to keep the burlap from getting wet & freezing overnight, and (3) and about 3 inches of wood chips around the root zone. Let me know if you have any other questions! Charles :-)

Also, IV Organic 3-in-1 Plant Guard & WhiteWash products can help protect plants & trees from freezing nights to some degree. Both products offer plants the benefit of, what's called in the gardening world, "WhiteWashing". And the majority of research use WhiteWashing to offer insulation to the plant to curb the extremes in temperature, predominately winter extremes. Google and research more on the benefits of "WhiteWashing Trees". Charles :-)
