I thought the previous video said that you were not supposed to add organic material to the hole because that would discourage the tree from growing it's roots outside of the hole. Would sawdust work as well as wood chips? Our neighbors have some sawdust, but not wood chips.
Before you ship the trees/bushes, etc.. do you balance the roots with the top branches or is that something we should do before we plant? I only have some currents on order and don't know if the pruning part applies to them.
That balancing and branch shortening should happen at the time of planting, to accommodate any branch breakage that might happen in transit. Check out our videos on pruning at planting time!
I prefer wood chip mulch, since it will help bring in the mycellium network that supports tree root establishment. I avoid sawdust, which can make a crust and repel water.
Cedar is a no-no, it contains oils that will retard or even prevent root growth (nature is hardcore). Pine and fir is acidic, but most fruit trees (especially apples) tolerate it just fine.
I love your energy! ❤
This was wonderful! Wish I’d seen it years ago! Thanks.

Great video, Thanks.
So you don't ship to MN until the end of May ?
Thanks Randy! Shipping times may vary to due to many factors including weather, availability, and how many orders have already been placed.
Thank you for the video. What kind of mulch do you use?

Have you ever tried deep pipes?
Can you use cedar and/or pine or fir chips to mulch fruit trees and berries?

graft union faced away from sun?
you might want to put a tall cage around its right by the woods deer gonna eat that tree in no time...
Good idea! Our orchard has a deer-proof fence so we don't include that in the video, but it's an important element if deer are a problem in your area.
