Something tells me that was a power move to get flesh and blood/Metazoo to cower in their boots, and it worked. Flesh and blood has been slowly turning away from Rudy since LGS's are complaining about the deals he gets.

I think the market is just bad in general because the country is in an economic rough place. With MTG their behavior is added to that. Pokémon they just started printing more product at the wrong time. FAB always had an uphill battle. Metazoo seems to me the people behind the scenes have fucked things up beyond belief. Pokémon will 100% survive. It’s a franchise beyond the TCG.
Metazoo was just investors to begin with. There was never any legitimate interest.
In the world of pokemon, the cards represent about 40% of the revenue, all the other merch, movies, collectibles make up the rest.
MTG, Metapoo, FaB and the others
all miss out on that revenue stream,
and need to pump out more cardboard to
keep revenue increasing,
where pokemon has other options to increase revenue yearly without having to increase card printing.

Attack on Rudy: The Final Season part 2.
Never bought or played a CCG but come here for the interesting economic case studies.
In part one basically he thinks Metazoo is done, would take a miracle to fix this. FaB customers bitched about Rudy exclusives and Rudy offering cheap prices so that’s done. He also said all FAB products are currently under MAP pricing. The biggest point was WoTC has listened to the magic subreddit “gamepieces” groups and as a result here we are.
Forgot to mention some store asked him to buy a lot of their FAB product at like 50% MAP and he refused. Their reply was “If you’re unwilling to buy this stuff that says more than you’re willing to say” essentially.
Video was fucking epic. With the FAB thing he was very respectful but just laid it out there.
The sad part is he really didn't say anything that was incorrect. LSS is mad butt hurt Rudy can't move their boxes at store prices whilst charging his Patreon fee, which is hardly his fault given how hard hes tries to push the product. He took the video down cause he likes the people at LSS and likes the game.
@@dylanbailey8464 imho FAB owes this guy and not the other way around. They should tell the stores to get over it. Rudy supported them from the beginning and is largely responsible for where they are.
@VPB1218 eh, the word "owes" might be a stretch. Ultimately, FaB is still a good game, and with or without Rudy it will continue to exist and make money. As for whether or not he's an asset to them financially is up for debate. I love Rudy and he's the only reason a lot of people know what FaB is, but now those people know and have chosen to play the game or not. Rudy does rub a lot of small-minded folks the wrong way, attaching yourself to him as a brand does come with baggage. Not saying LCC should do this or that. Frankly, nobody outside of LCC has the data needed to make a confident move.
The issue is that he framed what MTG is doing as a bad thing.
MTG is one of two profitable things Hasbro does, and is the chief among those two by far. Going to "Game Pieces" has been nothing but good for the MTG bottom line. Its been good for players too, since they can actually play the game with the cards that hold all of this value without having to bankrupt themselves. The layoffs were baffling specifically because MTG is doing so well that they didn't make any sense, and had to be due to contracts with the other licenses covering toys and other products.
Of course, this is all bad for people who think cardboard is a stock and are investing into it because of that, thus the rant. Thus video 1 was taken down.
@Optix334 right, cause the continued erosion of Hasbros stock and viability as a company is a red herring, so is the continued ill will being felt and voiced by the magic community from pretty much all major magic content creators and LGS owners. Also ignore Hasbro liquidating assets like eOne and firing employees for quick turn arounds in an effort to recover some of their bottom line percentages. Yeah this ship isent being steered by morons at all.

@@bla5tmya554the really brief tl;dr is Hasbro is a disaster, MetaZoo is going to die and Rudy is dropping Flesh and Blood from his monthly patreon offerings because of other stores complaining about him being under MAP pricing. Also went off on all 3 games for overprinting in a really epic manner.

I can empathize with those who are upset at the market but as a player and collector I’m having a good time. I keep buying in to vintage magic cards that are older than I am so I can play this beautifully crafted game.
I've tried a few other games and there really isn't another game like Magic. It was a masterpiece from the beginning.
“Stay the course” unless you mistakenly over-leveraged and need to sell for emergency funds. Whenever I put money into collectibles, or investing in general, it’s similar to gambling money where you should be willing to lose it / not rely on having access to it short-term. The economy is in an absolute dumpster still and your average person simply has less money to put into collectibles. Basic necessities in life come first and those basic costs of living have gone up substantially.

It was fun to see Rudy finally take a giant shit on MetaZoo. For those of you who didn't see part 1, you can actually still watch it via a private link (I'm doing this right now in another window). Basically, he's saying that MetaZoo's absolutely terrible conduct, poor release execution and complete radio silence have left them in a position where they just cannot make any new releases work. Rudy doesn't know if any of his promos that were in the works will be making it into any releases now, since the artist (alongside a whole bunch of others) left.
It would take such a massive shift in communication and attitude over several releases for them to start building back the trust they've utterly destroyed with the collectors/investors/LGSs that it seems too much of an uphill battle. The entire product range right back to the beginning has crashed, and even people who were hardcore fans are unloading all their long-held product because of how totally MetaZoo has burnt its bridges with the fans.
In short, Mike and MetaZoo's attitude/conduct has left the game so utterly collapsed that it could finally, well and truly, actually be 'dead'.
Re: Flesh and Blood, he's no longer going to carry it or sell it to patrons after the next release. LSS wanted him to raise the price after receiving complaints from other stores that he was "too cheap" selling privately to his patrons. Stupid move from LSS there, listening to the Timmies.
Everyone is coming off the pandemic high right now. My mom works for a company that makes custom ordered computers. Their sales was through the roof during the pandemic, and now they're having the worst year in a very long time. As the market shifts back towards the services sector, every company that placed their factories on overdrive will now have to adjust.

Every hobby/collectible niche that people are into is taking a hit. Company's from everywhere are doing massive layoffs and trying to adjust for 2024. Elections are right around the corner. Rudy shilling for MetaZoo will never not be funny to me. The "game" from Day 1 was investor-backed Logan paul-esque dogshit. I mean, Steve Aoki was involved from the early days. There is no "game" to be had. Rudy was shilling that piece of shit because CCGs are an unregulated market where if you have enough marketing and hypemen, you can manufacture demand from gullible morons.
But fact of the matter is, there was NEVER any real demand for MetaZoo. Ever. It was all investors circlejerking each other like with Crypto and NFTs and maybe a few bag holding Timmies sprinkled in.
My favorite part about part 1 was at the 39 minute mark he went beserk about the game pieces and also talked about how they stopped contacting him. Metazoo people and flesh and blood he also talked about losing a big portion of his patreons

Distributors are 80 percent of the problem. Also the card manufacturers are putting out too many boxes, sets, etc..... it's just impossible as someone who has tons of money in the hobby to keep up. It's sad.
I lost my 2020 shirt, so I guess I doobie needing to get a new one now. I've only bought cotton/polyester from the cardboard peddler; go figure.

Saw both parts, and well... Patterns are people's friends. It allows certain individuals to get ahead, with discipline and a nucleus of network opinions to make wise decisions. This is why I say Roodhi instead of Rudy. I've seen your BBQ video years ago with you burning 50 of your cards in celebration. The biggest thing about everything you said is true and it applies to most markets or systems for finance. But the reality is if you spent 10-20k on any market and it drops by 50% theres going to be a knee jerk reaction. The other issue is if you have bills to pay, that need to be paid right now and that 50% left over money is the only money you have have. Then you need to do what needs to be done and use it. Yes youu may kick yourself if in 12 months that -50% investment skyrockets to 150% value, but the fact is in that 12 months you might change from a 3 bedroom house to a 1 room hotel. The main thing is people gotta be more aware of what they are spending. Im no guru, or monopoly man but we have gotta try.

Lost rltens of thousands of dollars by now. Use to collect lots of reserve list cards low tier up to dual lands and haven't bought any magic in atleast 1 year and when I did buy last it was boosters on black friday and still not in a situation where those boxes are all up in value. Magic 30th was also a big reason why my tens of thousands of bucks are staying with me instead
Part 2 still didn't include much of Weiss-Schwarz. So I think that means this game is not in such a bad shape as the others.

Completely spot on about pokemon. Im a big fan of pokemon and try and follow the market on sealed and singles pretty close and this has been the trend for a while.
Outside of 151 and even 151 with the UPCs the Scarlet &Violet era has been over printed like crazy and the demand for pokemon i feel like is pretty healthy but just cant match supply
Paldean Fates was probably printed a bit more than it should but its already been said that the next major set in pokemon temporal forces and whatever its called is already been cut by like 30%
30% is pretty substantial for a TCG like Pokemon. We will see how that set performs and how things go for the next 2-3 sets to finish up 2024. Im sure it will be the same.
Pokemon in the long run will be fine though. It will rebound. Just will take 1-2 years probably

I'd say Sorcery has it under control. They didn't do dust codes for a player extra benefit (although it gives a nice side effect), they are using that info to understand opening vs holding. I'm sure if all these TCGs did something similar to this then they would have much better real time data to react faster and be less sceceptible to the data delay.

They need to but are they going to do it? If they don't cut we might be able to pump into the election. If they do cut rates then the market is going to shit the bed hard because then they have to price in the next rate hikes and it's just going to make inflation worse. In fact there's a good chance the Fed is going to have to do the opposite and hike rates while the market is mispricing in a rate cut and that is going to be some serious rocket fuel to the downside.

I started at Ice Age and stopped at Odyssey.
Found your channel sometime before Strixhaven . Watched for nostalgia sake, then bought a few boxes and Strixhaven and played a bit. Bought a bunch of commander decks from older sets, then a half dozen or so of those cool card boxes that come with packs and a dice.
Then nuff’n until the D&D set. Bought a few boxes and a few more of those cool storage boxes with the ten packs and a side.
Nothing since.
But I have not stopped watching this channel. I enjoy it, even if I never plan on buying paper again, I’ll still tune in to the videos that catch my attention.
And maybe go buy a shirt.
Keep in mind part of the problem is people are hesitant in general to spend money on ANYTHING. Until the *hacks and wheezes the phrase price gouging* INFLATION gets under control for regular consumers collectors markets will struggle to move inventory across the board.

The quick tendies nature of everything has to stop for everything to become more stable. From collectibles, to wall street, real estate, literally everything, the mindset of trying to double and triple up instantly causes everything to go to shit later on. There's nothing wrong with 5%, 10%, hell even 20% swings on a normal basis. We need that stability back.
Part one got deleted
LGS store owner in Los Angeles Ca. We’ve slashed our sealed numbers by 50% for almost every game across the board going into 2024 (except One Piece which is going so strong) Not even mad about it, distros are feeling some type of way but whatever I sleep better at night this way.
