Maru always amazes me. Many times when Serral won, I always thought about how to fight the insane BroodLord + all Z spellcasters, which are the Zerg's golden armada.
Some info for Maru fans on the head to head topic. Serral beat Maru every time on bo3, except once, but always with little impact. One qualifier in which Maru qualified anyway, and both of them end up losing in the semifinals (3-2 Maru to Dark, 3-0 Serral to Classic) so I would say Maru got the better end of that tourney slightly. 3 times Serral beat Maru 2-1 in group stages, Maru qualifying second place all those 3 times, Maru winning 2 of those tournaments, and placing third on the other, Serral being eliminated in the first game of the playoffs each of the 3 times. And once and the best one for Serral was a 3-0 against Maru, Maru fell in the lower bracket, reached the semifinals and managed to be beaten by Dark with a close 3-2, the same Dark that will end beating Serral 4-0 in the finals later on. Maru instead eliminated directly Serral every time he won 3-0 Wesg, 3-0 Asus Rog and this finals 4-2. This is why Serral isn’t the GOAT. You can’t be the GOAT of basketball by playing in the Euro basketball league and never play in NBA. Serral can’t be the GOAT and not play in GSL. Maru has a trophy labeled G5L waiting for him and it’s looking increasingly likely he will take this trophy in 2022, something no one has ever done. We should pay our respects, Maru is the greatest and that G5L cup will only further prove the point and serve as extra wall decoration.

Great game indeed but both side made big mistakes, Serral should push for more advantage after the successful baneling push, and Maru should not go through the choke on retreat, but these mistake just make the game even greater for sure.

The absolute highest tier players of sc2 facing off in a crucial 5th game in a final, it’s not about who has no mistakes, but who makes the least and exploits the opponent’s mistakes better. If it was lesser players they probably won’t even have pushed these 2 far enough for us to catch these mistakes. The game would have been over already.

Maru is the most talented sc2 player ever, being able to play late games against the best zergs and win, when zergs have so much going for them in late games
To be fair not many Terran player unlock the full power of Terran at late game. This Race just hard to play at 100% power compare to Zerg and Protoss but if you can play like Maru then Terran will stronger than Late Zerg.

The commentary suffered from a bit of "Serralitis", e.g. Game 3 1:00:55 questioning whether Maru can survive, predicting a "massively superior" Serral army, thinking it's okay (even preferable?!?) for Serral to lose his 4th with the hope of establishing a gold base instead, etc. Within 2 mins Maru has a 20 army supply lead and a major eco lead . The rest is history. I guess the question was whether Serral can survive...
Yeah, there was a huge bias in the cast, they kept saying the wrong name for players and units the whole cast too, real C tier caster energy, luckily the games were so good you can kinda just ignore them

Game 4 3rax build by Maru originates from Byun. Maru talks to Byun about what he should do against top tier Z quite often. In an interview, Maru jokes about he should stop listening to Byun's recommendation because lately it's been all wrong and should just play the game like Clem (more traditional/safer builds). I feel like because Pride of Altaris is such a Z favored map, Maru just went into the game with the mindset that he'd most likely lose, so he gave Byun's build a try lmao.
Maru does take a lot of build from other Terran players. The 2 factory widow mines drop non-stop are from Cure, 2-1-1 was also a popular build from Byun a year back. Maru also mix in CC first build or 3CC expansion build as well.
MARU IS A GOD. Zerg is a broken race and he still dominates...technical and mechanical mastery. The only reason the Maru of 2018 vanished until now is that his injury stopped him being able to grind to this kind of level until rfecently...that and the broken zerg and moreso protoss situation.

I'de really like to see a more destructible environment in sc3. .. imagine a Planetary crashing into the ground and creating a crater or destroying what it lands on?.. or siege tanks actually changing the map .. basically like the destructible rocks but on a full map scale.. another idea would be unit corpse memory.. they don't disappear.. you just got dead stuff everywhere XD
I think it'd be cool to have units that can alter terrain as well: ie Terran has a bulldozer that can build cliffs or bridges. That probably gets impossible to balance though.
Rushi Pinkman! Maru GOAT, no SC2 player will ever beat his record. 4 GSL Code S IN-A-ROW. The only SC2 player who won all 3 Korean Star league. The only other player starcraft (boxer being the other) with 2 royal road record.
I think what Maru improved over this year is his ghost build. He get the ghost out a bit earlier than before and he use them so well that it doesn't matter if he 's behind in economy. This allow him to confidently extend the match and clutch out the win even when he's behind, since ghost beat almost all of Zerg units (except for Infestor's fungal). That said his mech build was very good as well.
For sure, it's what's been happening in GSL as well, early Ghosts so that when they are needed, they are already there. Very big difference then when you start building ghosts to counter as it makes it very, very hard to break maru. I mean, come on, some splits in this series were the best I've ever seen, like a Starmap of bio.
Well, most (if not all) of Zerg AoE/spell damage aren NOT friendly fire, including Banes, Lurker, Fungal, Parasitic. Meanwhile, most of Protoss and Terran AoE are, thats the "balance" that we live in SC2.

At the very least.. slower decomposition of units... Marines slowly get covered with dirt.. destroyed vehicles slowly burn or serve as cover
