The Nuna (the older girl SHINee have a crush on that they are singing to) in the "Replay" MV is the leader of their sister group***. Her name is Victoria and she is from the group F(x). This MV came out more than a year before F(X) debuted so this was Victoria even before debut. (Funny thing is Victoria is native Chinese and she says she was still learning Korean during this time and she could barely even say SHINee.) Victoria was so perfect in this role because she is a few years older than any of the SHINee members so she fit well as the lead actress in this MV. As the song says, 'Nunan neomu yeppeo .... replay, replay, replay ...." In other words they are saying "pretty older woman I really like you and I think you like me too ... every time I see you I need a replay of the moment over and over again in my head." Nunan neomu yeppeo is a Korean term that essentially means "Pretty older woman" Yeppeo is a term that means beautiful that is only used by guys to describe a beautiful woman that is older than them. There really isn't a literal translation of the term so that is why the song is called "Replay" in English. But in Korean it is called "Nuna neomu yeppeo." That's why if you watch SHINee on a lot of variety shows and TV programs, the older women in the show often ask SHINee to sing this song to them. ***Groups are considered sister/brother groups to each other when they are groups who are under the same label who usually debut within a few years or less of each other and they are usually groups that are similar in size (number of members), the members are all close in age, and they often have similar concepts and music styles. That's why Key and Minho are both rappers and how Taemin started out as a popper in dance. No teasers, no predebut promotions, no fixed date of when. Almost debuted as "SM5" (heavily influenced by MJ, u know, jackson5). They swept all rookie awards in 2008, ending the year with a grandslam. I'm so proud of these boys.

SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography. You really should check out their live performances because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear. If you know EXO, then you know how good of vocalists they are, well the members of SHINee actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. The EXO members and SHINee members are all around the same age and they were in the same trainee classes together, and yet SHINee debuted 4 years before EXO. So, that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends. Not only it's some old song from tham but it's their debut! The best debut in Kpop in my opinion. They were monster rookies even before it was a thing! They got all of the rookie awards of 2008 because of this. It was THAT good! And until today whenever they sing it my heart skip a beat. SHINee are the best live performers in Kpop when it come to hard dancing together with live vocals. And I saw them live at a concert in Korea and BIGBANG live in Korea so I really mean it they are on another level! They have a different style than BB obviously but the level is really crazy! Thanks for the review, guys! Other commenters explained the lyrics -- it is about how love is worth all the pain. Telling someone you love - you'd do it all over and over again (replay, replay, replay) because they are worth it. Those lyrics were nostalgic when the song came out and are even more so now for their fans who have lived through a few make-ups and break-ups of their own. It is a great song, debut or otherwise, Kpop or otherwise. In fact, a few years ago, an interviewer asked the SHINee members what they would change about their careers if they could go back in time. They said they wished they had the song-writing credits for Replay! Back in 2008, LSM or somebody at SM worked some brilliant emotional kung fu on fans putting this song together with the SHINee boys. SHINee made that song their own.

To say that "Replay" is best debut song is an understatement. SHINee's "REPLAY" is " the best" debut ever. 💎 It was the "grand slam debut song" as they won every award on every music shows they performed. Won best New Artist for their group. My first Shinee video was Hello when they did a comeback after I introduced myself to BigBang. That song surprised the hell out of me because I was expecting them sound like that and it was soooooooooo good.
They were such babies with this debut. Taemin was so young. Also the female in the video is Victoria, then a trainee who debuted the next year on their label with the girl group f(x). You should also check out some of their songs. Little sisters to Girls Generation and big sisters to Red Velvet. Sadly we lost Sulli from their group just like we lost Jonghyun but f(x) is well worth a listen because they were quite different sounding than all of the other SM groups and were really big.
SM has been trying to crack the US market for years, but didn't really succeed on a large scale until SuperM recently. SHINee did have some following in the USA though, Obama even mentioned them in a speech in Asia.

Now you know why this is considered the greatest KPop debut of all time. Everything about it is pop/R&B perfection. I haven't been able to listen to it without crying since Jonghyun passed away, but I love the song too much not to listen to it. I'll take the ugly face tears for the eargasms the song gives me. SM has its faults (and plenty of them), but the one thing they do better than anyone is finding and developing vocal talent. There isn't one bad singer signed to that label. Even their rappers can sing. Maybe not in an amazing way, but they can carry a tune without embarrassing anyone.

May 25, 2020 will be SHINee's 12th anniversary. So SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and yet they are younger then most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than most other groups such as EXO and BTS, etc.which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. It just goes to show you why they are legends in the industry.
SHINee debuted in 2008 when Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now after more than 11 years they are all in their late to mid-20s. (Onew just turned 30 in December) SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry. The group is currently on hiatus because 3 of the members are fulfilling their military obligations.
Onew (Pronounced Oh-New, real name Lee JinKi) -- the one in the hat -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique and best vocals in the industry. His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, etc. His record still stands today.
Onew is currently serving in the military. He is part of the military's promotional team so he is spending a lot of time as a stage actor alongside several other idols who are also serving in the military right now.
Jonghyun -- the one who is first to sing -- is known as one of the best vocalist in Kpop who was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed over 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists such as EXO's "Playboy" and songs for Taemin, IU and Lee HI, etc., as well as participated in several movie and drama OSTs. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. SM knew that if Jonghyun was involved in any way that the song would be a hit. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer.
He was one of the very first Idols to be known for this songwriting and composing skills. As the main vocalist, Jonghyun is the one you hear with all the amazing high notes and R&B runs and ad libs most of the time.
Key -- the one in green -- is our diva and fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. SHINee are known for setting trends and never being afraid to experiment with their sound or look, so Key is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. He is known for always being unique and wanting to standout. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. He is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized.
He is also SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. Key is serving in the military right now as well. He is part of the military band.
Minho is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is one of the top actors in the industry and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies. Minho is also known as a top athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out just because he likes to work out. but he is also crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc,, as well. And not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field and he pretty much wins every time. There is a reason why Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and his need to always win.
He currently is serving in the military and is a member of an elite branch of the Marines.
And as you know, Taemin -- the one in yellow-- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry and that's not just by fans but by everyone in the industry, both young and old. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Micheal Jackson. As you can see by their "Replay" MV, even at 14, Taemin was one of the best dancers in the industry, and you will soon discover with the more that you watch from SHINee and Taemin's solo work that he has only gotten more magnificent over the years. Taemin truly is art when it comes to his performances.

SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know them better you will wonder how it was even possible that you couldn't tell them apart. As a SHNee World -- what SHiNee's fans are known as -- or Shawol for short (pronounced like shy-wall), I tell people that once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. I can tell who is speaking or singing within 1 second even with my eyes closed with them standing in a crowd of people. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of their's. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop".

Yes SM entertainment. Debuted as a contemporary group, aiming to be trendetters in music, dance, and fashion. Their debut was amazing, and it was a surprise. No teasers, no predebut promotions, no fixed date of when. Almost debuted as "SM5" (heavily influenced by MJ, u know, jackson5). They swept all rookie awards in 2008, ending the year with a grandslam. I'm so proud of these boys.

SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography. You really should check out their live performances because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear. If you know EXO, then you know how good of vocalists they are, well the members of SHINee actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. The EXO members and SHINee members are all around the same age and they were in the same trainee classes together, and yet SHINee debuted 4 years before EXO. So, that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends.
You should also check out SHINee's performance of "Replay" at their SHINee World Concert IV (SWC4) in Seoul in 2015. This song is so iconic that they perform it at almost every concert and live event they are involved in. "Replay" is such an iconic song that it's one of those songs that almost every rookie idol and/or group, both girl groups and boy groups are pretty much required to learn and know, and almost everyone has performed a cover of it at least once in their career. SHINee are considered Idols' Idols. Now I know that might sound like hype from a super fan -- and you are not wrong, it is LOL --but it also is a fact. Everyone looks up to SHINee and most hope to become as well rounded and technically perfect in their singing and performances as SHINee. The industry standard is known as the SHINee standard when it comes to live vocals and performances.
SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 with their Japanese version of "Replay," so I think that was one of the reasons why SM decided to upload the Korean version again at that time.

SHINee are one of the top selling artists in Japan. They are all fluent in Japanese and their concerts in Japan are almost entirely in Japanese without any need for a translator.

Not only it's some old song from tham but it's their debut! The best debut in Kpop in my opinion. They were monster rookies even before it was a thing! They got all of the rookie awards of 2008 because of this. It was THAT good! And until today whenever they sing it my heart skip a beat. SHINee are the best live performers in Kpop when it come to hard dancing together with live vocals. And I saw them live at a concert in Korea and BIGBANG live in Korea so I really mean it they are on another level! They have a different style than BB obviously but the level is really crazy!
They are under SM and they the one that picked all 5 individuals, trained them and put them together to this magical combination! Back in 2008 Kpop just was inside Korea, in 2009 it blow up to other parts of Asia so Replay wasn't targeted to non Korean as opposed to today's kpop. You can see it from the actual name of it "Noona you are so pretty", They are so young in this truly babys that they right away targeted girls older than them with their songs. Taemin was only 14 years old in this MV this is how young they are!

Thanks for the review, guys! Other commenters explained the lyrics -- it is about how love is worth all the pain. Telling someone you love - you'd do it all over and over again (replay, replay, replay) because they are worth it. Those lyrics were nostalgic when the song came out and are even more so now for their fans who have lived through a few make-ups and break-ups of their own. It is a great song, debut or otherwise, Kpop or otherwise. In fact, a few years ago, an interviewer asked the SHINee members what they would change about their careers if they could go back in time. They said they wished they had the song-writing credits for Replay! Back in 2008, LSM or somebody at SM worked some brilliant emotional kung fu on fans putting this song together with the SHINee boys. SHINee made that song their own.

To say that "Replay" is best debut song is an understatement. SHINee's "REPLAY" is " the best" debut ever. 💎 It was the "grand slam debut song" as they won every award on every music shows they performed. Won best New Artist for their group. My first Shinee video was Hello when they did a comeback after I introduced myself to BigBang. That song surprised the hell out of me because I was expecting them sound like that and it was soooooooooo good.

They were such babies with this debut. Taemin was so young. Also the female in the video is Victoria, then a trainee who debuted the next year on their label with the girl group f(x). You should also check out some of their songs. Little sisters to Girls Generation and big sisters to Red Velvet. Sadly we lost Sulli from their group just like we lost Jonghyun but f(x) is well worth a listen because they were quite different sounding than all of the other SM groups and were really big.

SM has been trying to crack the US market for years, but didn't really succeed on a large scale until SuperM recently. SHINee did have some following in the USA though, Obama even mentioned them in a speech in Asia.
aligensa man once shinee makes their comeback at the end of this year with everyone of them out of the military, with the help of the exposure that superm has given taemin to an new audience, they can seriously reach new peaks.
SHINee has a huge following in the USA - but so does Bigbang. Just because they're not played on the radio doesn't mean no one's heard of them until recently!
They have a huge following in the US, what are you talking about I am a Shawol since 2009. I traveled three states to go to a concert when I wasn't even allowed to go to a sleep over by myself, that is how much I love Shinee, all of them. The concert was packed with a lot of people, a lot of them.

Now you know why this is considered the greatest KPop debut of all time. Everything about it is pop/R&B perfection.
I haven't been able to listen to it without crying since Jonghyun passed away, but I love the song too much not to listen to it. I'll take the ugly face tears for the eargasms the song gives me.
SM has its faults (and plenty of them), but the one thing they do better than anyone is finding and developing vocal talent. There isn't one bad singer signed to that label. Even their rappers can sing. Maybe not in an amazing way, but they can carry a tune without embarrassing anyone.
