I think the movies hold up well enough for what they are, but they only tell a focused subset of the story. There is so much more in the books. If you haven't read the books I'd highly encourage you to read them. You'll understand a lot more context behind the events you saw in the movies and experience a lot more of the wizarding world.
The books have so much more depth and a lot of great back story and subplots that the movies just can't touch. The movies are like Cliff's Notes for a part of the story.
I'd say overall, the movies are good adaptations. My one major criticism is how they handled Ginny's character. I won't go into details because of spoilers, but yeah, they kinda butchered her character.
@kellie6048 Arthur never punched Lucius, he shoved him into a bookshelf and a book fell from up top into Lucius’s eye while at the same time Lucius Malfoy decked Arthur Weasley in the mouth/jaw and Arthur was bleeding from the mouth in the end. Hagrid was the one who quickly separated them like they were ragdolls, because he is even bigger in the books standing at 11 foot 7, which ended the fight.
Lucius kicking Dobby down the stairs was improvised. The director thought he slipped, but he said I didn't slip that was me kicking Dobby down the stairs. He liked the idea and added it to the movie👍🏼
So fun fact: Jason Isaacs, who plays Draco's father Lucius Malfoy, also did the voice of the Basilisk. Rupert Grint who plays Ron Weasley, does have an actual fear of Spiders, Arachnophobia

I'm not gonna lie....when I first saw the basilisk in this movie, I had the same reaction Ron had with Aragog. (side note: I am NOT fearful of snakes or spiders). Also, every time I hear Hermione say "She's a little sensitive" to describe Moaning Myrtle, I always have the same first thought: A LITTLE sensitive?" Dumbledore was back because the other governors panicked when Ginny was taken into the chamber and changed their minds. Also, the movie left out that Harry and Ron got 200 points each for Gryffindor and they won the house cup again :)
The legend mention that the basilisk would get rid the school of muggle borns or maybe half bloods (as per Slytherin, unworthy of studying magic), but Ginny is a pure blood, so the school governors panic at the thought that anyone now is in danger.
"How come nobody knows he is full of crap?" You'll see it in later movies, but Dumbledore is an unparalleled genius. He does know and hires Lockhart as DotDA teacher for one sole reason - Harry. He wants Harry to see that, as glory and fame consumes you, you become full of crap. As you progress through the movies, this will become more apparent, but nothing Dumbledore does is without a careful consideration looking like way down the road and how it can possibly play out.
Every action Dumbledore takes, especially not directly containing to Harry, like appointing a teacher, or designing the trials for the sorcerer's stone in the previous movie, is to shape Harry as a person.
Wild that Dumbledore sabotaged older students exam results by hiring Lockhart…just to teach some bullshit lesson on the toxic side of fame and greed 😂 there were older students who needed a good teacher to get good results.
17:44 LOL Funny you commented on professor McGonagall writing to Harry's family well.. At the end of this book when they were on the station back after all this great things Harry did saving the school and Ginny and all, Hermione told him "I'm sure your family would be so proud of what you've done this year Harry" or something like that but he replied: "Hermione, are you mad? Honestly it is not a bad thing that Ron’s wand broke when you think of the fact that it is a hand-me-down and not tailored to him by a wand maker like Olivander.
It will probably please you to learn that in the books Arthur Weasley DID punch Lucius Malfoy and then proceeded to whoop his ass in a "muggle duel" in the books.
@ezradanger Arthur never punched him. You need to reread the books. He didn’t whoop any asses all he did was shove Lucius into a bookshelf and then Lucius punched him in the mouth/jaw. Then Hagrid separated them. People forget and then exaggerate this scene.
i cant remember which one it was, but i saw my 3rd grade teacher when i went to see a Harry Potter movie, and i honestly dont know if it was even her, i just heard some kids yell Mrs. Walker! (that was her name) or something but from where i was sitting it did look like her
Well in the book Hagrid said he was the only one who applied to the defence against the dark arts teacher job had been jinxed and Harry said because 1 year of something bad happening then Hagrid said the feast is about to start and the subject never came again and in a later book the half blood Prince Dumbledoor said a week before Harry patents got killed voltamort asked Dumbledoor can I teach defence against the Dark art’s Dumbledoor said no why would you think i would hire you why do you really want the job but dumbledoor told harry ever since that day he refused voltamort the job so Lockhart was the schools 12 defence against the dark arts teacher in 12 years. Both Ron and Nevil are using other people's wands. Ron is using his brother Charlie's wand so it does not perform well for him. He has a new wand for the next film so his magic improves. For Nevil: he doesn't get a new wand until the 6th book but this is not shown in the films. The Dursley's want to keep Harry at their home because they are aware of a protective enchantment on their house which will disappear if Harry doesn't come back for at least 2 weeks per year. It protects Harry & the Dursley's and Petunia is well aware of the power of magic folk as she used to spy on her sister and her sister's magical friend.

Both Harry's parents were magical witch and wizard, and yet Voldemort says to Harry "Your Filthy Muggle Mother" ??? It would work if he'd said "Filthy Muggleborn Mother" but not as it was said in the movies. You cannot be a Muggle and a Witch. It's just something that has bugged me all this time.

He added the “k” to distinguish his craft from illusionist and magicians since he did not perform “tricks” Team gryffindor
The reason the Dursleys don't want Harry to go back to Hogwarts even though they don't like him: because they are Harry's only family and he was left in their care, they are his legal guardians and are therefore obligated to take care of him. However, they do not approve of the entire world of magic and wizardry that Hogwarts and Harry's parents were a part of which is why they don't want him going to Hogwarts, and just as Harry's aunt viewed his mom as a "freak" for having magical abilities, so they also regard Harry as a freak. So that's why they treat him like dirt but don't want him going to Hogwarts.
Being muggle-born does not mean that you ever had magic in your family at any point. In fact, in the books it is heavily implied that Hermione never did. Children are sometimes just magic. Just like some kids born into magical families do not have any magic at all. Simple as that.
They do a terrible job in the movies with giving the weasleys the screen time they deserved. And oliver wood haha. I only knew about percy and the other brothers from reading comments and when I started reading the books
Something that the films leave out is that the Weasleys and the Malfoys are distantly related. that's just from memory don't come after me for saying this
At some point you'd have to think that all the pure blood families would somehow in a roundabout way be distant relatives. Gotta keep that blood pure, ya know?!

Being muggle-born does not mean that you ever had magic in your family at any point. In fact, in the books it is heavily implied that Hermione never did. Children are sometimes just magic. Just like some kids born into magical families do not have any magic at all. Simple as that.
I think she's referring to the 'theories' that Muggleborn are descendants of Squibs who had been sent to live in the muggle world.

They do a terrible job in the movies with giving the weasleys the screen time they deserved. And oliver wood haha. I only knew about percy and the other brothers from reading comments and when I started reading the books
Tess says she'd watch a movie just about the Weasleys!
Something that the films leave out is that the Weasleys and the Malfoys are distantly related. that's just from memory don't come after me for saying this
Not quite right: Arthur's mother was a member of the Black family as is Draco's mother. So not the 'Malfoy' family strictly.
@grahamgresty8383 I think they mean that Draco and Ron are distantly related.
At some point you'd have to think that all the pure blood families would somehow in a roundabout way be distant relatives. Gotta keep that blood pure, ya know?!
Not a big deal, but a bludger through a hoop wouldn’t earn the team any points. It has to be the quaffle to get points.

Even after watching all of the movies a couple of dozen times each, my top 2 favorite movies are #3, then #1. I don't understand why so many like #7 so much. It is one of my least favorites. One of my favorite scenes of this movie you didn't show. The scene of what happened to Lockhart.
Hi i'm new here and can you watch Eleanor's Secret (2009)
