the m7 has still the best design that htc ever made..glad i bought it then
+3165dwayne For the time the m7's design was amazing and the m8 is based off the m7 so...
3165dwayne Yes but the M7 paved the road for the M8 design. M8 is obviously better.
M7 design was the best ever!!!
I thought the same👍👍👍
One X was better
well ofc iphone users dont realize apple ripped design off of htc they think htc ripped off iphone
The M7 changed the game! One of the best phones I've ever owned. I miss it.
My favorite design from HTC is the ONE M8
I'm having the M8 two years ago. It's a masterpiece phone.
me too
Me too, Guys What is Your Next Smartphone ?
FruNKy GoRo Maybe the 10 when the price gets lower
+FruNKy GoRo the 10 for sure
How do they not mention the droid DNA, arguably one of the BEST looking smartphones of all time imo. That red and black made it look like a sports car.
+Amine Bashir Exactly. My first smartphone as well.
+Amine Bashir That was my first phone...and Yeah, once the 2012 section came, I was waiting for the DNA to come up...heck it was the first Android phone released with a 1080p display
Yep, such a disappointment that they left it out. It was probably my favorite phone I've ever had.
It's mentioned in the article!
Amine Bashir
Whats your favourite HTC design?
For me, its gotta be the M7
+FiveStar HD2
Definitely the M7
HTC Titan.
I used to stare at its design amazed. It still stands out, the silver one especially.
M9
Taking a look at the One A9 after seeing all HTC's previous phones, I see it less as an iPhone "clone" and more like the natural progression of HTC's designs. It just happens that Apple beat them to the punch with some clear inspiration from HTC's old designs. The all-aluminum unibody with thin antenna band strips at top and bottom of the phone had obviously been a staple to HTC's phones for years. Seems to me that the A9 has the antenna strips and metal unibody from the M7/M8, front shape of Butterfly 2, flatness of the M9, with only the openings (headphone jack, speaker, and charging port) placements directly from iPhone 6/6s. So they're 2 phones designed with some inspirations from the same source; HTC's old phones.
Exactly. Which was a point I have been making since its release.
On point! It annoys me that the guys from technobuffalo says they copied the iphone 6 design for the HTC 10... FCK! HTC m7 came way before they tried on the iphone6 design
Wilvin Apple's first smartphone was an aluminum phone. It was released in 2007. The One M7 was released in 2013. HTC was 6 years late to the aluminum game.
Alexandre The first iPhone has some aluminum, but it was not all-aluminum unibody like the HTCs. The original iPhone was part black plastic. Go re-read my original comment if you must, but I said HTC was the one who had the all-aluminum unibody as a staple.
Wilvin(null) the HTC One M7 was 30% polycarbonate 🤔
That is one of a kind video of HTC's history from Android Authority that I can find on TH-cam! Kudos for that! Wish some more video like this one from you guys.
one m7 is not htcs nicest phone , IT IS the best looking smart phone EVER . period
HTC 10 looks soooooo goood
Xperia Z5 Premium is the best looking smartphone in my opinion.
While I don't dislike the m7, the m8 and 10 both look far better imo.
HTC Desire Eye was quite a big focus for the Desire line in 2014. Really good video, enjoyed the whistle stop tour!
My first phone is HTC ONE X and also M7 and M8 :)
Every time I see the M8 my heart melts... What a legend! Now a proud HTC 10 owner that has not let me down since day 1.
I have owned the HTC One X,M8, M9 and A9. HTC has managed to keep me as a customer with their superior audio output and build. I also have a Nexus 6 P but it is too big to carry every day.
I have a 6P
+John Dow That depends. I also own a 6p and the size is perfect, it goes in my pocket perfectly, fits my hand...
If u don't wanna own the nexus 6p you can ship it to me😉
OPJure I use it at home or at work. I use it for media and believe me when I say that I love the Nexus P but for me, personally, it is too big everyday carry.
Novogence lol
Enjoyed this a lot since Ive been keeping up with mobile tech since the start of Android. Would love to see other companies timelines also
HTC had amazing looking phones, the screen(IPS display) and the poor advertisement didn't help it at all against that Samsung phones... Now I'm just hoping HTC makes the right call in 2017
Josue Galan lets hope htc U will be something.
the u11 is the best phone of 2017 so far
For me HTC has been one of the best phone since 1997 with lots of innovation in the mobile phone industry.
• 1998 - world's first touch and wireless handheld devices.
• 2004 - World's first smartphone with keyboard
• 2005 - World’s first 3G smartphone
• 2006 - World’s first smartphone integrated with GPS
• 2007 - World’s first touch screen smartphone HTC Touch
• 2008 - World’s first Google Android smartphone
• 2010.- World’s first 4G Android smartphone HTC Evo 4G
• 2014 - World’s first phone with Duo Camera with ability to refocus HTC one M8
• 2015 - World’s first dual tone finished all metal flagship phone HTC one M9
i have been a fun of HTC since 2010 and i love it, HTC lead, others follow, please give them some like man ...........One love
2016 - world's first ois front facing camera
+Boss Phanto - .....i almost forgot, thanks man
G1, M7, M8 and soon to get the 10!
+Jack Phillips I already got it preodered! It ships next week!
***** I've only owned 3 but I've always considered HTC to be the only company that actually cares about their consumers and what they want. All the rest are just overpriced and gimmicky. I can't wait for the phone I got it in Silver 😃
+Phillip Morales I think I'm going to go for the Grey/Black. The only thing that I don't like about the look of the 10 is that it doesn't come in a metal finish like the previous M series
***** what exactly do you mean? The chamfer on the HTC 10 is incredibly designed reflecting light beautifully with a different finish than the rest of the device. I got myself the silver variant after quite a bit of thought because I wanted to stand out more.
Bought the HTC One M7 and kept it for 3 years till it ended up needing to be replaced and then bought the HTC 10 a few months after release. Fast forward a few years and it's been acclaimed as one of the best phones and most underrated phones of its time and even recommended years later. It's been 4 years and it's finally on its last legs and I'm probably going with the U12+ next. I love HTCs effort in design, functionality, and simplicity and hope they keep pushing boundaries and making hits!
htc is synonym of history of android
I've always loved HTC. I had the I've had the HTC T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, HTC G2 (T-Mobile), HTC Sensation 4G, HTC One S, HTC One M7, and waiting for my pre-order HTC 10 to come in the mail in the coming weeks. I'm so happy to make such an amazing comeback this year. I've been waiting all a long. Regardless of how many HTC 10's they sell, they've made a great all around product, and that goes to show that HTC will not fade into the oblivion (in the smartphone market), at least without putting up a hard fight.
Also surprised you didn't mention the HTC Desire Eye. Not an amazing designed phone, but I feel like it somehow is what gave way to the HTC One A9, that flagship like mid-end smartphone alternative to the higher priced high-end flagships.
watched this on my HTC 10!
HTC phones I had and I have:
- HTC Desire (lost) - 2007
- HTC Desire (fall into sea)
- HTC Desire
- HTC One (M4) mini
- HTC One (M8)
I do love this brand so much. Hope they can keep improving their quality as the competition is getting tough.
The m8 was epic and the 10 came just in time ti replace it and keep us true to HTC
This video went in depth, and it worked really well. It'd be cool to see one of these for Samsung, LG, etc...
The ONE X was the best smartphone of its time (2012) and still HTC's best product release.
HoldenisAustralian i agree with your username
This is interesting to watch. Seeing one of the first ever smartphone I was in contact with again, and how they slowly evolved their designs to reach the point of the m7/8/9 or 10.
I was a happy user of the M8 for 2 years, with my brother now using it and him also being very happy.
HTC is awesome
I've had
HTC touch 2 windows phone
HTC desire x
HTC one mini 2
HTC one M8
HTC one e9 plus
unfortunately now Z2
but I'll get the htc 10 soon..
HTC is the best in my opinion and the only phone I've TRIED and never lagged
😲😲😲
Cool
+Heidi Chan HTC one S died on me within a year :(
+Lars
actually htc have been working with me so awesome I still have my htc desire x 3. 5 years and not lagging..
try the new htc it'll be awesome
+Heidi Chan get the HTC 10 it's dope
the htc one x solidified my loyalty to htc as a brand. it was just so premium and felt the best and did everything and more.
Watching this on HTC One Max. The best phablets ever.
frostwolf_f agree no more.the thing about that phone is it's back finger print.most China phone nowadays got that locate at same place, while HTC did that back in 2013.
Yup. I just can't find a stable third-party rom, though.
Awesome video guys. Would love if this was part of a series as "History of a Smartphone" and had history of Samsung, OnePlus etc.
+Mirza Ismail Baig I'll definitely make more of these vids.
+Mirza Ismail Baig
Samsung would a LONG one (unless they focus only on Galaxy phones). OnePlus would be a very short one. Would love to see both videos though.
man I miss my HTC Evo that kickstand was the shit. the droid DNA was the shit too.
Excellent video! My favourite was the Butterfly 2. Now, that the HTC 10 has been released, I think it's the most beautiful device HTC have had for a while.
Forgot HTC Droid DNA.
First phone ever with a 1080p display. It was my first Android phone. Sense 5 was very nice on it.
+idh0530 Me as well
Zeak1199 Great phone overall. Too bad the battery life was pretty meh on mine.
+idh0530 My Dad and I each had one. They both shattered sadly ... Though they still work! My current phone is the s7 edge. Should of waited but, oh well.
Zeak1199 Mine shattered too.
Awesomeness!!👍
Thanks for the nostalgia and trip down memory lane. HTC was an ahead of their time and their hardware/software was very premium with affordable prices. And their designs were sleek with appealing aesthetics. And it was smart to focus heavily on audio and utilize Beats Audio before Apple snatched them up. I think if HTC had just marketed their products better and more often to the public they probably would have crushed the market during this time.
After the M9 HTC began to slip and their designs became increasingly odd and unappealing. Unfortunately, this was almost around the same time LG started to do the same.
I've never truly owned and used an HTC device except I will always remember that it was a HTC Droid Incredible that a coworker had that originally sparked my interest in Android smartphones.
The Droid Incredible made my $10 contract discounted Blackberry Pearl look like a toddler toy. I played around with the incredible and I was instantly hooked. I just HAD to get an Android smartphone. Back in 2010 the iPhone 4 was out, and I actually liked it when I first learned about it. But it was insanely expensive and only on AT&T.
I didn't waste any time getting to the Verizon store to see what smartphone I could get. But I learned about the Droid X. It DOMINATED the Droid Incredible. And I LOVED the OS design of Android 2.2 Froyo.
Not long after, my wife was hooked in and she too wanted a smartphone. And I talked her into the HTC Thunderbolt. LOL First 4G smartphone to market!
Anyways there were a few times I almost ditched my Samsung devices for HTC when the M7 dropped. And almost did pull the trigger on the M8. Probably the only reason I didn't was because I was probably locked into a contract device and couldn't upgrade until much later. However HTC has changed alot in it's presentation and design philosophy. And Im not a fan. The HTC U11 is ugly to me. And the squeeze feature just seems ridiculously silly to me. Just seems more like a gimmick than a useful feature.
you guys should do a history of LG phones.
Used to be a devoted customer is HTC phones till HTC HD2 - not because of the phone, but because of the response I received from HTC in the name of customer service. My phone was under warranty when it stopped working. After failing to respond to my initial 3 correspondence, I finally sent it over to HTC for repair only to receive it back after 5 weeks untouched. Got in touch with them again, they didn't acknowledge my complaint and asked for the phone to be sent again. I sent it again only to receive it AGAIN untouched. Several week's of phone calls, emails later, I agreed to send it again. This time they sent me a refurbished phone which was, luckily enough, working. Such an experience was enough for me to sway away from them. I have since made sure to let everyone in my circles know not to get one.
my first Android phone was an HTC Desire.
Changiz K Baluch same
Changiz K Baluch
Me too
My absolute first smartphone was a Verizon LG Optimus Zone. My first serious smartphone where I did more than call or text was a Cricket Wireless HTC Desire 626. Still love and own it, but Ive been using a Nexus 5X till I killed my touchscreen functionality in a drop that damaged only that. got a desire 10 lifestyle coming in till I can afford a 6P or Pixel
Still my HTC One V working like a charm ...
Samsung history next? 👍 great video 📱
not worth it, its s6 and s7 then everything was terrible
+Alvin Capalad cosign.
+Alvin Capalad For real though XD. I owned an s4, and now a s6
+Alvin Capalad was it ? I got Samsung S7 edge but last Samsung phone I had was Samsung genio or summit !! 😂
+Reshad yeah they were all ugly phones compare to HTC and iPhones
it's really nice to see this as a HTC fan! Great video
You forgot to mention HTC 8x, yes it's doesn't run android. But it was one of the best looking phones ever. I would have bought if it was running android.
+azez1992 If it were me, I would've included the HTC HD2.
So, I've owned the G1, HTC Amaze, M7 and M8. Best design, the M7 for sure, but the Amaze was definitely different and a close 2nd place for me. The camera on the Amaze was fantastic as well. The back and battery were removable, and all of the wireless radios were built into the back. I recommend looking up the Amaze for something completely different. I still have it as my "backup phone".
I still have my M8 after getting the 9 and 10. Am I wrong?
ray hanes no, it's a great phone. The M9 was disappointing and the 10 is nothing more than just good. It's a shame because I've been loyal to HTC for years, after my contact for my M7 ran out, I went to get the M8. It wasn't available so I got the M8s, which I hated. As a result, I'm now (regrettably) with the XPERIA Z5. I miss HTC, and still, occasionally, use my M7 and Desire S
I think the M8 was the last really great phone by HTC. I have my M8 still, but just ordered the Samsung Galaxy S8
Oh HTC, I remember my first... HTC Desire HD. I was such a contrarian to the rise of apple I bought the HTC instead.
HTC One M7, my god. Such a brilliant phone with (at the time and possibly compared to current phones) the best speakers. Beautiful metal body and just a classic and distinct design, loved that phone so much.
HTC 10, felt like the best they had to offer with the refinements of every other flagship (albeit with the loss of dual front facing speakers and being water proof). Again another great metal design, really felt like the true successor of the M7 but was ultimately underrated.
Now I have an LGV30... With HTC's current direction, I'll probably never look back.
samsung history next please. hahahahaha. Have fun doing Galaxy S Galaxy Note Galaxy Young, Grand, Ace, Rugby, Active A,J, E, Y, Z, Stratosphere omg so many i cant remember anymore
Really liked this video. HTC has been making premium devices for years. Got the HTC Diamond back in 2008 and the Magic and HD2 the following year. All great phones of their time. The m8 is my daily driver at the moment, but will upgrade to the 10 asap.
what about the HTC evo 3D?
silvermolotov or the evo 4G, my first smartphone. had it in a limited edition white with red kickstand and striping along the sides. gorgeous phone.
HTC Desire S was my first smartphone. I really LOVED it at the time!
Do one for LG too :) only HTC I've ever owned was the m7, first year was awesome . after that , problems did arise. Purple camera tint, faulty headphone jack, overheating issues . But it was overall still a great phone
I owned a HTC One S at the time and it was honestly was my most favorite phone (now I have a iPhone 6. ) It really did set the foundation for the One series.
Lol premium design without premium cost for the A9. That's a joke right?
true
+Vinnie Tran If you got it when it was $399 it is. That's what I paid for mine (the red version), but as much as I love the phone, it is not worth $499.
+GOPACKERSJT It was overpriced in Europe for its hardware. I don't think we ever received the temporary discount. I remember how it was almost the price of a Samsung Galaxy S6.
+Vinnie Tran Unfortunately, the premium cost is only mentioned in the full article. _"[...]without the premium cost (at least in the US; for those outside the US, the One A9 was exceptionally overpriced)."_
Root I heard that HTC had to pay higher taxes than other companies.
Do more of these! "A History..." would be a great series...
htc was a legend
now its an android version of the bad iphone
Great video, loved the trip through memory lane.
Take a shot every time the guy says "legendary"
+ctrlSHIFT Legendary, legendary, legendary. Ready for power hour?
the same could be done for "premium"
Just picked up a brand new htc one m8 off eBay for $70. Had the m7 and m9. The build quality and design are better than most phones now a days and they were made six years ago. HTC phones are awesome
do nexus next!
+Gabriel Gaplanian hmmmmmm
+John Velasco 😃
He already did
Great video John V, really enjoyed it!! I've owned the One X and now the M8 and the design of both the phones are superb! It looked better, sleeker, simple yet modern at the same time than any of the other phones that came out with them!!
"Now HTC has increasingly become more selective with what it releases. So it will be interesting to see what HTC comes out with next." .... Releases the U Ultra. 😂
First HTC phone I had was the One V on Virgin Mobile. Loved the little guy. Currently have the Desire Eye (surprisingly not covered here).
M7 or GTFO
Love HTC.
I had the G1, the original Desire, Sensation, One X, One X+ and One M7. Even though the One M7 had an underpowered camera, it still produced so incredible shots. Hope the HTC 10 will improve the company's fortunes.
Great video, it was fun to go back in time and see how instrumental HTC was with Android. However, when I think of Android, I think of HTC. When I think of HTC I think back to phones such as the European Touch Diamond. I think of the Palm Treo Pro. I think of the Touch HD and HD2. It is clear that these phones were the precursor to HTC's most renowned Android phones. From the metal unibody chassis/frame of the Touch Diamond to Touch Flow 3D and its evolution into Sense UI. It would be cool to see this video updated or, an entirely new video detailing these connections.
Long live High Tech Computers 👑
The stealth black M7 was my first Android phone and I still love the design. while the last couple of HTC's haven't really impressed me, the 10 has turned me around. I can't wait to see what they do for Nexus. That could very well be my next phone.
You guys need to do more videos like this with different phone manufacturers.
Had htc wildfire S from 2011 till summer 2013 when I got htc one m7, and still have it now. Over the years the one m7 camera went from good to terrific in any situation. Battery went down like on any other phone. Overheats af. 32gb still good, never filled them up.
All..designs..of..HTC...are..my.. favourite....by..the..way.. I'm..gonna..buy..HTC..10..SOON..!🔥
You Will Not regret it, i love mine
Have the HTC One X for this many years and its still working perfectly..
Very nice video.. I have loved the HTC one m7, m8, 10 & desire & sensation designs...
HTC is king of smartphone design innovation & creativity... keep it up..
No mention of the HTC Evo line up really!?! Those phones made htc a household name for the most part. I remember getting my HTC Evo 4g and was super surprised by it and has kept me rocking htc phones ever since.
Love from PhoneArena. Good Luck for Android Authority.
The HTC EVO 4G was a great phone. My mom had it, while I had the Evo 3D, which was essentially just the same thing with a 3D screen (similar to the 3DS).
I was kind of hoping you would go all the way back to the beginning. HTC started out with Pocket PCs. My 1st HTC device was a smart flip phone running Windows Mobile 5.I later upgraded to the Cingular 8525 TyTn which ran Windows Mobile 6 and featured a slide-out keyboard and stylus. HTC has been at this game a long time.
I have the desire 626, and I sure do love the phone, it's great!
A large fortune? I think you mean a small fortune. Good recap of HTC's history! I had many of their original phones. They lost me over the last 5 years though. They keep ignoring the camera! My favorite part of a phone! And also, they always launch with a very steep price, higher than most Samsungs and LGs.
First HTC phone I ever had was the hd2 absolutely loved it
every other metal phone now a days takes notes from the HTC one m7. man I loved that phone , first with front facing speakers also, and even tho the beats audio was viewed as a gimmick it did pump out bass with the included headphones !!. just picked up the HTC bolt yesterday(half off) during black Friday for 300$ it's beautiful , and has worked flawywitj Android 7.0 no lag at all , first HTC I've picked up since the one m7
For those who really understand it, HTC means more than just a phone brand. So happy to still use my HTC 10, works flawlessly and a really unique design.
Hello my name is Tuâń. I want to say that I like hTc phones very much. I have been using hTc phones for years now and I have to say that I am truly satisfied. I love it so much. The phones have all the functions that I find very useful. Today I'm using the hTc 550 and I must say that I'm very happy to have it. Another reason that I really like the hTc phones is that it has a very profound and nice design. It is very inspiring. I really like it. Thank you High Tech Computer Corporation. I appreciate it very much.
So much Nostalgia of when i didnt have a smartphone and this was magically new.
my favorite HTC phones were the evo 4g , evo 3D lte and the evo 4g lte! You just can't beat that soft black back battery cover with the red ring around the camera and that aluminium kickstand! I still love those phones to this day and wish I still had them! I really wish they would go back to that design language! I was going to buy the one show but then got the Samsung Galaxy s3 that came out the day I went to buy the HTC! Plus I really really liked their HTC sense 3 through 4 series! That was the glory days of HTC and I really think people would buy more HTC phones if they went back to that design language! I mean it was fun eveytime I used the phones! Metal chassis with soft rubber black back battery cover!
yes red kickstand made it look like a gift. only thing I didn't like was the beats audio on the 4g lte. sound wasn't as loud
lowkey felt the desire HD is the best- it was nice feeling. a good size, almost all metal , capacities buttons , and removable battery & storage
HTC Wildfire S was my first smart phone after failed attempt with Blackberry. Intuitive, functional and easy to use. Not fast enough by today's standards but O.K by 2011 standard. Loyal to HTC ever since. Currently on Sensation XE. Next stop may be M8s or M9+.
Oh god, the memories, I still have the G1 (my favorite), Magic, Hero, Touch HD, Chacha, Sensation, One V, One X, One M7 and the One M8.
The Hero is bricked. And the G1... well, last year, the G1 just didn't wake up one morning, I loved that phone very dearly, it was my daily driver till the day it died.
my first Android phone was the HTC hero. I do have it after all these years. although now is in a drawer never too be used again.
great video you should do a history of most Android smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, lg, Motorola, and even nexus
HTC Sensation was my favorite phone at the time... I loved it!!
My first HTC phone was the Legend, I keep it as a reward
this design is awesome!! carnt wait to get my hands on it
I've owned the Nexus One, HTC Sensation, HTC Amaze, and HTC m8. There were a couple of the older myTouch devices in my family as well that I loved, it baffles me that HTC has started slipping up. and I really hope they continue to make quality smartphone. The Amaze was also my favorite due to CM support :)
I know its an "HTC Android phone history" but a major design landmark for HTC also came in the shape of the HD2(the windows phone) - alot of the One series drew inspiration from there
good work John V. getting better.
Any plans to make a similar video for each of the other manufacturers? Cool video, thanks for making this.
My first smartphone was a Wildfire, then a Legend and finally One XL. Moved to Sam's Note 4 after that. HTC does make pretty good phones though, I'm not entirely sold when they came out with the M8/M9, that's why I tried something new. I still like the Legend though, the design makes it somewhat difficult to break the glass when you drop it.
I started with the hero (2nd hand from my brother!), then the desire and the One X plus (not shown here). Looking back, the One X Plus was way ahead of it's time I think - 64 gig internal memory and a free sizable dropbox account. Fantastic phone, really regret switching to LG for the G3 and will ultimately choose more carefully next time.
I've Had the Sprint HTC Hero, Verizon Droid Incredible 1 , HTC Sensation. All were amazing overall. I never had the chance with the ONE X because it was on ATT but I think that was a gorgeous phone. I loved all the old smaller designs. Part of the problem is that phones in general have become HUGE chunks of metal. I wish HTC would make some premium 4.3" to 4.7" inch phones again with high specs.. I guarantee they'll sell. Bring the optical trackpad back!!
I used to flash roms like a madman on my evo! Loved that damn phone...wish kickstands would come back.
My favorite HTC design phone is the ONE V if they can release a compact flagship in that body... amazing
I wanted a T-Mobile G1 (the OG Android phone) at the time, it looked so cool!
Good video, yep I remember having the HTC inspire back then it was a good device
