My life changed too when I started doing this and putting money in stocks. The first few years it as really great, but this year I haven't felt like my portfolio is doing well. I have lost more than $40,000 from my portfolio the past four months, and it's now very worrisome.

Isn't VOO and VUG similar in the sense both are investing in the S&P 500? What is the difference? I thought it is generally advised against to invest in multiple ETFs or Mutual Funds?

The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.

My core etfs are VOO, Schd, Dgro, and qqqm in my taxable account. I will move retirement account money into the taxable account when I retire. I also own O, Vici, bac, pebo, ko, exc, v, pfe, and bmy. Also some cash in money market, cds, and a little in muni bonds. I’m hoping to retire in 5 years. I’m trying to get everything in qualified dividends.
I did do a 10 year comparison of the etfs spy, Schg, fdvv, and dgrw. I compared my 4 ETFs against these 4 ETFs, the S&P was the benchmark. The second set of ETFs performed a little better against the S&P. I noticed that during the 10 year comparison the second set of ETFs lowest return was about -10% and the S&P was around -30%. When I retire I’m looking for a less volatile road. I’m sticking with my core group of ETFs for the long term.

Impeccable timing for this video to be posted. My wife will began taking RMD's next year and I've been trying to move her works 401K which is only paying 8,000 in annual dividends with 800 dollars of fees into a self-directed IRA before she has to take the RMD. She finally agreed to it and the proceeds should hit her new account next week. She does not want any individual holdings, but just ETF's, so we ended up with SPEXX (cash position to access the RMD and she's toying with the idea of paying off the mortgage) which will probably account for about 50% of her portfolio at least while the dividend rate is 4.98%, then SCHD to account for 25%, VOO 15% and 10% to RIET. Once the proceeds of the 401K are incrementally dispersed, it will be pretty much hands off with the dividends reinvested and RMD's taken from SPAXX.

Money advice is subjective, what works for you may not work for someone else, but it's always better to plan. I'm quite lucky exposed to personal finance at an early age, started job 19, bought first home 28, got laid-off work 36 amid covid-outbreak, and at once I consulted an advisor to handle growing my finance. As of today, I'm only 25% short of my $1m goal after subsequent investments.

More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

I believe the safest approach is to diversify investments especially under professional; guide. You can mitigate the effects of a market meltdown by diversifying their investments across different asset classes such as stocks, ETFs etc It is important to seek the advice of an expert.

On the contrary, even if you’re not skilled, it is still possible to hire one. I am a project manager and my personal port-folio of approximately $750k took a big hit in April due to the crash. I quickly got in touch with a financial-planner that devised a defensive strategy to protect and profit from my port-folio this red season. I’ve made over $350k since then
