From Wiki. When asked what the song meant to Chris himself, here is how he responded. That was a song that really came from the guitar itself. It was mostly like the guitar was dictating what the lyrics should be and creating a mental image. The mental image was this sort of destitute guy. I guess he'd lost his cool if you want to put it that way. He's sort of coming to grips with what had happened and not necessarily feeling particularly emotional about it either way. He's trying to figure out how he would stand up and put one foot in front of the other-or not-and the song never really resolves any of that. It's just that moment of somebody sitting in the dirt. I had more moments like that after that song was written than I ever had before it was, so it means a lot more to me now than it did then.
I heard him read some of his poetry once.. Everyone was flabbergasted because it was dark and layered, but I thought it was deep.. I was higher than a kite, though, so..
If I may go out on a limb and speak for your squad.... I'm pretty sure when it comes to Chris Cornell you can restart that video as many times as necessary, his voice is just that good for you. And I'll go even further and say that those that disagree just don't matter. 😁 I was super excited for this one as soon as I saw it!!!
3:38 "I feel like he's speaking metaphorically right now, and I gotta figure out that mf metaphor." The metaphor in many of his songs, unfortunately, is his struggle with severe depression. :(
Soundgarden is my favorite band, and Chris was my favorite singer of all time. He was such an amazing talent, but he must have had some really heavy stuff in his mind, which you could hear in his lyrics and his voice. He basically spoke about his own impending death for all those years in his songs, but maybe that helped him deal with life? I don't know, but I so wish he was still with us, I miss him like he was family.
I’ve had a hard time listening to them since Chris’s demise because I loved them so much but thank you for this. Can’t avoid one of the greats because it makes you sad-I must get over it and remember and honor them🖤Thank you.
Follow me into the desert is a metaphor for being dry. I lef I shot my love to day is drugs. Left it in the sand is falling off the wagon as is lost my head again and leaving a needle or bottle in what was the desert. Her is the is love for the drug of choice. Really clever lyrics. RIP Chris.
Love it! The ‘I shot my love today’ some people say is about drugs but also could be that he just lost his love, ruined his ability to love or drugs or alcohol ruined relationships. Such a great lyricist. Soundgarden’s Fell on Black Days has more great lyrics and vocals. Also for a totally different bluesy side check out his solo song When I’m Down (live at the Troubadour).❤😊

Was a good age (20's) when "grunge" came out and Chris Cornell's voice was the best of all the bands at the time... but I never truly understood his lyrics or genius regarding his feelings or soul until I was in my 40's.... seen him once with Audioslave and twice solo (all with my brother who passed in 2016), he is my generation's Freddie Mercury😢😢 RIP to a truly great voice and wordsmith (both of them) 😢😢😢

This is one of my favorite tunes. It's actually an homage to one of Chris's favorite songs..."Down by the River" by Neil Young. Very similar lyric content (killing your love down by the river...etc). I heard this in interviews. Glad I was 17 in 90 when this type of music jumped. 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
'Down below the truth is lying beneath the riverbed. Quench yourself and drink the water that flows below her head.' 'I shot my love today, would you cry for me? The sun is mine, the sun is mine
I shot my love today
Would you cry for me, yeah?
I lost my head again
Would you lie for me?
I left her in the sand
Just a burden in my hand
I lost my head again
Would you cry for me?
Yeah, would you cry for me?
