Hi I’m a professional marker artist 3 years in the making and here are some tips! - Don’t worry about dry time (while copics do have dry time it is really fast and doesn’t affect the blending that much. - Work light to dark - Push and pull (the alcohol will move the colors around, lighten or darken, or layer) more alcohol will push, less will pull. - Using exact colors isn’t a big deal because you can layer and blend to make new colors. - Paper is your most important supply (my favorite is Render marker paper by crescent) - The codes on the markers are important (letters is what basic color the marker is, first number is value, second number is saturation, the lighter the color the more alcohol is in it, the darker the color the more pigment is in it. - Have fun and trust the process!
The light to dark is a great general rule of thumb, but I have found that doing the inverse and going dark to light can result in some really interesting lighting effects.
I actually love how Daidus blends his copics, even tho it seems "messy" in comparison to Emily's it's also super dreamy/ethereal looking!! And Emily's also look so clean and precise, sorta like a sticker like they said. Both of their art styles fit their personalities so well ^^
I love the difference between Daidus and Emily’s approaches to the exercises. Emily is very much by the book (literally), precise and delicate, and a bit afraid to play with colour. Whereas, Daidus likes to experiment with colour and bold choices, going more by eye. They bounce off of each other really well because of this!!
I got so fluttery when I heard her say that, sounded so sweet and natural, it felt like my favorite waifu patted me on the head after I finished a project Q///Q ❤
I really liked Daidus' fruits! One of the things that stood out to me was that Emily's line art stood out more in the final product which may be part of why it looks more "cartoonish" and Daidus' looked more realistic? Either way, both versions looked fantastic!
Daidas has a very painterly way of coloring/drawing. Thats definitely from art school. Also the fact that he always draws things bigger than necessary is another thing art school tends to influence. Even in high level art classes at regular colleges all of these things get drilled into you. This isn’t always the case, but is partially the reason for the differences in style.
Copic user here! It really helps to swatch your colours while you’re working on your drawing. For example if you’re looking for a shading colour (like Emily’s grape), swatch your options on the base colour on a separate paper so you can see how it looks without committing to putting it directly on the artwork. Hope this helps!
Mascot video comes out next week!!! (Sorry for the confusion, we thought we were launching with 5 vids but we launched with 3 instead so the mascot ep isnt out yet!!)
Daidus has a great eye! I think that makes him overly-critical of his own art, but he gives great advice like adding more color to Emily’s grape and adding shading to the back of the hair in the shiki board video. I love how much Emily trusts in his advice in order to implement it too! She really takes things in stride and its really nice to be able to see how to take constructive criticism in someone I admire so much :3
BIGGEST TIP FOR ALCOHOL MARKERS IS TO UNDERSTAND HOW THEY WORK: the alcohol in the market “lifts” any pigment that is already on the paper and then places the new pigment from the marker down. that’s why copics layer so well AND why they blend so well. it’s a mixture of lifting and placing pigment. the colorless blender works in a similar way only because the marker is purely alcohol it only lifts the pigment off the paper. similar to an eraser
What I learned from my art supply sales days was that the codes are used to help you find colors that go together. The letter is obviously the general hue (R for red, etc.) The first number is the family within that hue and the second number is the value or saturation. A lot of Copic artists recommend that for best blending to use colors within a few numbers for the second number to avoid weird splotchiness.
What I learned from my art supply sales day was that you could save a lot of money on those open copic marker stands. Just buy one and whenever it dried out replace it with the store one. Saved a lot of money and no one notice especially if you go buy something small along like an eraser
Emily's art is just always so cute, and she managed to draw the cutest grape ever. With Daidus motivating her to add red in it, it looked so much better! He did so good to make her being a bit more adventurous. Daidus' grape looked so good as well. I'm just obsessed with Emily's style.

Tip: Don't have much experience with copics, but I did recently hear that keeping them upright will have them dry out sooner. So you should put them horizontally.

Markers are actually so hard to Master since u can't erase your mistakes and if u put more pressure in your hand, depending on the paper type, it will look like a black hole was there Regardless of the marker color and brand. I saw Emily talk about this chanel in her videos and thought I wouldn't really be into watching drawing, but I was wrong. It has been great to see different styles and hear them talk together. the talk is the main fun fo rme personaly in this as they get a long so well =) Good work.
i understand daidus struggle with wanting to draw and write neater. ever since i was a kid that "neat" style of drawing and writing has been more difficult for me when it seemed to come naturally to others! but i think we just have to embrace our free flowin lines haha
The way that I see is that daidus is using copics like watercolor by using diff colors and layer them. That's why it's much more realistic. While Emily doesn't use color just uses pressures and layering and honestly both works but there could be a balance. Daidus sometimes less is more and focus on shape language and use your strokes like how the object is going so it doesn't become streake. And yes paper counts so much too tbh. And for emily you can layer the same color 3 times and for the fourt just use something completly different so it just gives more blue or red or dark too it it won't ruin it cus once it dries it's just going to be darker usually so it's not like digital where if you put the red on the green it becomes green or brown it's just going to be darker. And I think creating shades and swatching them before can help out a ton I mean practice does make perfect. I use everykind of stuff on my art from coal to water color to markers and I also do digital.
I love how differently they approach practice! Emirichu’s careful and precise approach and Daidus’ experimental and adventurous approach, it makes it especially fun to see what they’re different processes give life to 🥰
you two legit made me wanna draw again, i haven't drawn anything for myself in a very long time because i draw in work all the time, so i appreciate for re-lighting the spark for me.
11:43 man, daidus one looks like wut u did using art class watercolour (lookin good tho) While emily one looks like manga-ish weekly cover art (good good) The apple and strawberry also had their respective style
this was so much fun to see both daidus' and emily's learning styles come out! i just think it was so weirdly comforting to see how they both took different approaches, and their results were different, but neither was really better than the other! excited to see the traditional art journey continue!!
I love how similar to what Daidus said Emily‘s looks like stickers and it’s great but I really love his fruit actually because they almost look more realistic. Emily‘s are a bit more uniform, which is nice and beautiful don’t get me wrong (I love Emily❤), but I actually love Daidus’ style more for the fruits. Wish he wasn’t so hard on himself!
This is so accurate! Daidus has some water elements so they’d be juicy and Emily’s would be like Saturday morning cartoon crunch 🥰 I love their styles!
What was school like art wise? Were you guys a teacher's favourite, an outcast, have the classic “oh my teacher saw I drew anime and put me and it in the trash and burned it.” experience, did AP (or whatever art higher tier classes there are in the US)? Emily, is there a particular musical or show you wish you could’ve done while doing the school shows? And Daidus have you acted? As well as this, I wanted to say, Emily, I’ve loved you for years, your artstyle has influenced me so much and for that I’m forever grateful. Daidus, you’re cool too.
Haven't finished watching it, so sorry for commenting so early, but I really like Daidus' grape. It's not perfect and it's not identical to the example, but I feel like it's gorgeous - Emily was right when she said it looked like watercolor. It may not have been what you wanted, but it is gorgeous
OMG COPICS! A really good youtuber to watch for copics is Jazza (Formerly Draw with Jazza)! He's an Australian art youtuber who has been using comics for YEARS and has a lot of content on copics as well as other really fun art content too. Highly recommend! One thing I learned from watching him is that its a lot of blending/mixing and the paper matters quite a bit
I REALLY love how Daidus sketches and draws BIG, front and center, and in this new journey i feel like it'll help a lot! drawing big and using the whole canvas helps to find confidence and to accept mistakes easier, this channel is a godsend guys!! cant wait to see more, keep it up and godspeed you beautiful bastards!!!
I like the idea of them doing stuff from a book, especially those they cannot read, I had a new Japanese bookstore open in my area and they have a bunch of reference books for drawing but they are in Japanese. Now I feel a little more confident in trying to use them. I hope they do more episodes like this where they use different art books to make art.
I have a few! 1. do you prefer guidelines or freehand when sketching? 2. why does Daidus color his outlines in blue?(I think it looks really cool) 3. did you guys have any big projects you wanted or still want to do, but things didn’t work out right? I’m a pretty recent fan of you guys(like a month or two), so I apologize if you’ve already answered these. I was super demotivated by art, until I found you guys and I got my passion relit. I’m so happy there’s so many people supporting you already🎉!
I didn't think I was gonna like this channel, but now it's quickly become my comfort channel, and it's even gotten me back into drawing. Thanks for all the hard work Emily, Diadus, and Spill crew.
I actually really like the watercolor-look of Daidus' grape. Also: This was your first time with these markers?! That was insanely good! You could really see the progress from grape to apple to strawberry! And Emilys drawings just looked kinda surreal amazing as if it was a sticker-sheet taken from the book.~ T^T It's also quite nice, that you can easily follow along, if you want. ^^
I like both your renditions of the grapes. Emi's is more clean-cut and blended, but Daidus's also looks like a dreamy watercolor effect! Both are beautiful!
Seeing you guys try and learn new things was really fun, and it inspired me to finally try out new embroidering teciques. sometimes it's nice to remember that everyone, even the people you look up to, are often beginners in somethng

Emirichu’s careful and precise approach and Daidus’ experimental and adventurous approach, it makes it especially fun to see what they’re different processes give life to 🥰
That grape looks dope and Emily really got close to matching the book
I actually love Daidus's drawings, they feel much more realistic! I feel like I could bite into them
Daidus casually dropping life threatening facts and then it skipping to lighthearted music just feels so funny to me
7:28 the markers are just wobbling and its so cute ❤❤
you two legit made me wanna draw again, i haven't drawn anything for myself in a very long time because i draw in work all the time, so i appreciate for re-lighting the spark for me.
Those books look super adorable!!
"Light and happy"
Daidus's tone: dark and no hope
11:43 man, daidus one looks like wut u did using art class watercolour (lookin good tho)
While emily one looks like manga-ish weekly cover art (good good)
The apple and strawberry also had their respective style
this was so much fun to see both daidus' and emily's learning styles come out! i just think it was so weirdly comforting to see how they both took different approaches, and their results were different, but neither was really better than the other! excited to see the traditional art journey continue!!
Wish he wasn’t so hard on himself!
the fact that the focus point is like 5-10 cm off the table is kinda funny cuz they pop out so much better when they move the paper around
At 14:00 Daidus called Emily honey 😭😭😭 yall r so cute
cant wait til you two get into oil painting and find out the self combustion properties of linseed oil coated rags
Emily's first Grape turned out really good. I thought it looked like a cartoon.
Same here !
Both of your fruits look realistic guys.
Difference is I'd eat Emily's fruits, whilst I'd drink Daidus's.
This is so accurate! Daidus has some water elements so they’d be juicy and Emily’s would be like Saturday morning cartoon crunch 🥰 I love their styles!
@@candycoatedthorns2876 Well, I was referring Daidus's fruits looking overripe, so they are good to turn into spirits.
I feel like this channel has the vibe of old youtube videos, it's very chill and relaxing
serotonin drop omg. every spilled ink ep fills me with joy
Daidus' grape actually looked amazing. I can see his art school background from it. And Emily's grape is so perfect and pretty
One thing I learned from watching him is that its a lot of blending/mixing and the paper matters quite a bit
as much as i love emily's drawings, i gotta say i prefer the way daidus drew them! they look soo dreamy
I never clicked on a video this fast 😭😭 I really love these episodes you don’t know how much they’re very enjoyable and comforting!!!!
OMG IM IN SCHOOL RN BUT IDC CAUSE SPILLEDINK IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MY GRADES!
A SAME CANT WAIT FOR CLASS TO END
Please get good grades~~~
Sameeee but im in art class so it’s fine
real
💀
I have a few!
1. do you prefer guidelines or freehand when sketching?
2. why does Daidus color his outlines in blue?(I think it looks really cool)
3. did you guys have any big projects you wanted or still want to do, but things didn’t work out right?
I’m a pretty recent fan of you guys(like a month or two), so I apologize if you’ve already answered these. I was super demotivated by art, until I found you guys and I got my passion relit. I’m so happy there’s so many people supporting you already🎉!
These types of videos give me so much serotonin, like free therapy, just the calm drawing vibes and the goofy energy. Keep em coming! ☺️
I wish I could go to Japan because Copics are so cheap there and I could stock up for home lol😂
I love quickly they shift from supporting to roasting each other
I didn't think I was gonna like this channel, but now it's quickly become my comfort channel, and it's even gotten me back into drawing. Thanks for all the hard work Emily, Diadus, and Spill crew.
I actually really like the watercolor-look of Daidus' grape.
Also: This was your first time with these markers?! That was insanely good!
You could really see the progress from grape to apple to strawberry!
And Emilys drawings just looked kinda surreal amazing as if it was a sticker-sheet taken from the book.~ T^T
It's also quite nice, that you can easily follow along, if you want. ^^
This Channel feels so fresh, no Saturation of content, No Dumb Things, just a nice fresh art channel. You Gained a sub.
I like both your renditions of the grapes. Emi's is more clean-cut and blended, but Daidus's also looks like a dreamy watercolor effect! Both are beautiful!
I actually love how daidus grape looks!
This channel is litrally an excuse for Emily to get her nails done every other day...I mean look at her nails! How're they sooo pretty!!? 😭😭
Man this feels so chill… this some Bob Ross shit, It’s like some new age Bob Ross with Daidus and Emily…
I love your new channel so much! It's so fun and cute to see you two draw together!
14:03 It's so cute when Daidus calls Emily honey!
Emily’s drawings are very animated while Daidus’s looks so realistic
200k congrats, guys! It's well deserved, and we all look forward to more!
Congrats on 200k already! Can't wait for 1 Mil!
Daidus’ grape looks like it should be in a fine art museum
I'm really loving this new channel, I love to hear y'all talk!
Daidus gives major cat energy esp at 12:34 💀💀
Seeing you guys try and learn new things was really fun, and it inspired me to finally try out new embroidering teciques. sometimes it's nice to remember that everyone, even the people you look up to, are often beginners in somethng
YAY FINALLY ANOTHER EPISODE!! I WAS EAGERLY WAITING!
