Cheers Trev, this is by far the best video I have found on embedding foundation. All you tips show your wealth of experience. Ive watched many videos on embedding but none of them talked about using the older battery chargers. Ive never been able to embed my foundations properly because Ive been using the newer digital chargers to no avail. Cheers for setting me right!

Go lower amp you can embed in one shot perfectly. I use the weight of the wax to embed and it works a treat. Nice vid tho, each to his own!

good idea to use screws ~ they have large flat heads!

Gday mate i am looking at making one of the embedders you first showed , so the power only goes to the two outside points and the screws are just there t push on the wire is that correct ? and you just have a small actuator switch wired in with the neg and pos either side so as you make contact it it sends power to the end points from the battery charger . I have only done one without an embedding board using my old battery charger what a disaster wire not going in properly, hard to make wire contact with the terminals lucky i got the wax for free was a damaged sheet . Great informative video like all of them you make take care .

@@EcrotekBeekeepingSupplies1 Hi trev look i know im a bit thick sometimes but looking at your embedder one wire say the positive goes directly to the bolt then the negative goes to one side of the switch and the other side goes to the other bolt and when pressed makes the circuit ,sorry mate im a chippy not a sparky the only thing i know about electricity is you can't see it smell it or taste it but when it bites you know its there .

For some reason I’m going to watch Kath and Kim on TV. I wonder what Kel Knight is up to.

Thanks Trev. Here's a version from the store down the road from me if you ever felt an urge to update your design. Precisely the same principle, just refined a tad using various plumbing parts. hornsby-beekeeping.com/embedder-electric/ I'll mimic that version myself. I was using wax coated plastic foundation and that works well when the bees are keen, but when they start getting fussy I've found mine prefer wax and will ignore the plastic, often skipping the frames with plastic foundation. The queen runs out of room and it all ends up going to hell in a handbag in there. I'm moving over to wax only in the brood boxes.

I'm not suggesting you buy it Trev! I thought the design was very elegant and easy to clone for people like you and I. However not everyone has even the most basic hand skills and/or is disabled, hence requires a commercial alternative. Whether that design was copied for personal use or served as a commercial alternative for those in need, I thought it was a lot better than most of the others I've seen.

Yes easy to copy I think Trev, and what I intend to do. For the record I'm over the other side of the ditch.
That happens to be my local supplier, no connection just a customer. It seems expensive but also comes with a base board. For somebody without the ability to make anything it's probably not as expensive as it seems. From same supplier, wired/assembled full depth frames are A$3 and wax sheets $2.45 (ie $5.45) vs $A$7.21 waxed and ready to go. I think for anyone with more than 2 hives it would be financially worthwhile, even more so if they're prepared to assemble/wire frames too.
Good luck for winter, it's just starting to cool off over here, but my crew are still bringing in tonnes of pollen despite the rain. It would be interesting to see a video what you do with your hives over winter there as we're using the same Paradise boxes

I'm on the outskirts of Sydney Trev, just north. Surrounded by bushland but still with suburbs around to provide food right through the year. I have no idea what pollen they're bringing in now, but it's different colours and they don't seem to have any trouble finding it! We rarely get frosts where we are, single digit (Celsius) nights would be considered "cold". I replaced the Paradise Honey Varroa mesh with larger hole diameter S/S mesh to allow the bees to chase hive beetles through it. A side benefit is I can look back up into the hives with a torch at night to see how they're doing. They loose cluster at night, fly about an hour after dawn until dark. I will open the hives tomorrow (21 degrees) as I seem to have a poorly performing queen and I want to try to get that hive through winter until she can be replaced in a few months. So long as we can keep Varroa out, Sydney is probably a pretty good place to be a bee ;) ... not so good if you're a human and I'll be glad to leave!

Trev have a look at the latest paradise Honey catalogue, I think it has only recently been updated. There are some interesting new products there both in the boxes and some new machines. Like the commercial embedder, maybe not anything I'd personally be rushing out to buy but always interesting to look at different ideas. paradisehoney.net/wp-content/uploads/Catalog-2018_small_res_ENG.pdf
